[OXNARD, California] - El sábado, Abril 28 desde 9 a.m. a 2 p.m. el Departamento de Policía de Oxnard y la Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Traiga sus medicamentos para su disposición en el Departamento de Policía de Oxnard a 251 Sur C Street. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
Last October, Americans turned in 377,080 libras – 188.5 montones – de los medicamentos recetados en más de 5,300 sitios operados por la DEA y casi 4,000 socios estatales y de aplicación de la ley local. The Oxnard Police Department accounted for more than 1000 pounds during this past collection. In its three previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners took in almost a million pounds – casi 500 montones – of pills.
Esta iniciativa aborda un tema vital para la seguridad pública y la salud pública. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Las tasas de abuso de medicamentos recetados en el U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses attributed to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. en adición, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines – lavado por el inodoro o tirarlos a la basura – tanto plantear potenciales riesgos de seguridad y salud.
Four days after the first event, El Congreso aprobó la Ley de Eliminación de Drogas Seguro y Responsable de 2010, which amends the Controlled Substances Act to allow an “ultimate user” of controlled substance medications to dispose of them by delivering them to entities authorized by the Attorney General to accept them. The Act also allows the Attorney General to authorize long term care facilities to dispose of their residents’ controlled substances in certain instances. DEA is drafting regulations to implement the Act, a process that can take as long as 24 mes. Until new regulations are in place, the Oxnard Police Department and the DEA will continue to hold prescription drug take-back events.
Las agencias en el Condado de Ventura que participan en el evento son: Oxnard PD, Simi Valley PD, Port Hueneme PD, Ventura PD and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
