On December 17, 2024, at around 5:00 P.M., Oxnard police officers responded to the Elks Lodge in the 800 block of South “A” St in Oxnard in reference to a stabbing that had just occurred. As officers arrived at the location, they learned that the victim, a 43-year-old Oxnard resident, had been transported to a local hospital by a friend. Officers contacted the victim and found that he had been stabbed once in the torso. The victim was admitted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.
Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation and gathered enough evidence to identify the suspects as Gerardo Reyes and Baltazar Lopez, both 51-year-old Oxnard residents. Investigators obtained arrest warrants for Reyes and Lopez and search warrants for their residences.
On February 6, 2025, the Violent Crimes Unit, with assistance from the Oxnard Police Department SWAT Team and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, served two search warrants at residences associated with Reyes and Lopez. The residences were located in the 1700 block of Tehama Street and the 800 block of Dicha Drive, both in Oxnard. Reyes and Lopez were located at the locations and arrested for their warrants. During the search, investigators located multiple firearms and ammunition.
Reyes was charged with attempted murder and conspiracy, and Lopez was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy. Both were booked into Ventura County Jail.
