On September 3, 2024, at about 8:10 a.m., an Oxnard Police Traffic Enforcement Officer was working school zone enforcement in the area of Fred Williams School when he noticed a vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign. The Officer stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver, Manuel Renteria. The Officer smelled alcohol coming from Renteria and noticed a beer can in the center console of the vehicle. The Officer conducted a DUI investigation and ultimately arrested Renteria for driving impaired. Renteria provided breath samples, the results of which were .31% BAC, or nearly four times the legal limit for alcohol.
The Oxnard Police Department would like to remind motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to always be aware of their surroundings and obey all traffic laws. Traffic safety is a shared responsibility, and anyone with information regarding a suspected drunk or impaired driver should immediately call 9-1-1.
