DETAILS:
Attached are the preliminary crime statistics for the 2012 mid-calendar year. The Oxnard Police Department reports crime statistics to the FBI for the annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR). The FBI is responsible for collecting, publishing and archiving these statistics. This report was conceived in 1929 as a method of providing reliable, uniform crime statistics for the nation.
The report refers to “Part 1 crimes” which include two categories – violent crime and property crime. Violent crimes include: homicide, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Property crimes include: burglary, auto theft, larceny and arson. The table below shows Part 1 crimes in the city of Oxnard for 2011 and 2012.

- Overall, Part 1 crimes increased by 7.9 percent in the first six months of 2012
-
Violent crimes decreased by 7.7 percent
- The negative total in the rape category is attributed to crimes which were reported within calendar year 2011, but were deemed unfounded during calendar year 2012. As a result, there were more reported crimes unfounded than reported during the first six month period of this year
-
Property crimes increased by 10.7 percent.
- Residential garage burglaries had the most significant increase. In the first six months of 2011, there were 36 and in 2012, there were 71. The method of entry was “open or unlocked” doors for 30 of these incidents. Residents are reminded and encouraged to close and lock their garage doors.
Although Part 1 crimes have increased so far this year as compared to 2011, when compared to the same time period in 2010, 2012 is still 11% lower. The graph below shows the number of Part 1 crimes in Oxnard for the first six months, of the past five years.
