El sábado, Febrero 27, 2016, en aproximadamente 6:30pm, Officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit and K9 unit observed a Tan Lincoln LS sedan driving in the 500 bloque de N. McKinley Ave. en la Ciudad de Oxnard. The officers observed the vehicle make several traffic violations and conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop officers learned that two of the four passengers were on probation. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and determined that one of the passengers, 19-year old Oxnard resident Gabriel Merino, was in possession of a loaded and concealed handgun. Merino was also determined to be an associate of a local criminal street gang. Merino was arrested for possession of a loaded and concealed firearm in a vehicle. A second passenger, 29 year-old Oxnard resident Gabriel Perez, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, cocaína, and prescription medication not prescribed to him. Perez was arrested for several narcotics violations. Both Merino and Perez were booked into the Ventura county Jail.
The Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit is committed to reducing gang and firearms violence in the City of Oxnard through the strict enforcement of laws specifically targeting known, active gang members residing in the City. Citizens are reminded to contact the Police Department when they observe suspicious activity or are witness to a crime.
