En diciembre 18, 2015 en aproximadamente 9:15 p.m., officers observed a vehicle being driven with several mechanical violations in the area of Eighth and A Streets in Oxnard. A traffic stop was conducted in the 1000 Block of South A Street for the violations. El controlador, 21-year old Oxnard resident Jeremy Turner, was contacted and found to be in possession of concentrated cannabis and taken into custody for the narcotics violation.

Turner was arrested for drug related charges, possessing a loaded firearm in his vehicle and possession of stolen property. He was booked into Ventura County Jail for the violations.

En enero 4, 2016 en aproximadamente 1600 Officers from the Special Enforcement Unit were conducting gang enforcement in the south end of the city due to several recent gang related shootings in the area.

SEU officers conducted a traffic stop in the 400 bloque de Hueneme carretera. During the traffic stop they contacted Jesus Jasso, Margarito Solano, Mauricio Yepez and a fourth male adult. A search was conducted and Jesus Jasso was found to have a loaded handgun in his possession. He was arrested for weapons violations.

Mauricio Yepez was arrested for outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants and Margarito Solano was arrested for a violation of probation.

The fourth subject was released at the scene.

All of these subjects are associated with an active criminal street gang.

En enero 10, 2016 en aproximadamente 1800 horas, Officers from the Special Enforcement Unit were conducting gang enforcement in the south end of the city due to several recent gang related shootings in the area.

SEU officers conducted a pedestrian stop on Julian Nunez at Samuel and Yucca. Nunez is associated with an active criminal street gang and a Post Release Offender. Nunez was found to have a loaded handgun in his possession. He was arrested for weapons violations and warrants.

En julio 11, 2010 en alrededor 0335 horas, a white Honda Accord, driven by Maria Rodriguez, was rear-ended by a beige Pontiac Grand Am near the intersection of Sanford Street and Beaumont Ave. El conductor de la Grand Am huyó de la escena de colisión en su coche. El Departamento de Policía de Oxnard ha sido galardonado con una $316,500 subvención de la Oficina de Seguridad Vial de California (OTS) for a year-long program of special enforcement and public awareness efforts to prevent traffic related deaths and injuries. The Oxnard Police Department will use the funding as part of the city’s ongoing commitment to keep our roadways safe and improve the quality of life through both enforcement and education.

“In keeping with our mission: To Protect the Community with Exceptional Service, and our 2014 effort to create a Safer and Stronger comunidad, we are pleased to have a funding source to focus on traffic safety,” said Oxnard Police Chief Jeri Williams. “Our efforts will focus on the increase in distracted driving, as well as drunk and drugged driving. As members of the community, the Oxnard Police Department is committed to educating the public in our goal of ultimately having zero traffic-related deaths.”

After falling dramatically between 2006 y 2010, the number of persons killed and injured in California traffic collisions saw slight increases in 2011 y 2012. Of particular concern are recent increases in pedestrian and motorcycle fatalities and the dangers of distracting technologies. This grant funding will provide opportunities to combat these and other devastating problems such as drunk and drugged driving and speeding.

“California’s roadways are still among the safest in the nation,” said OTS Director Rhonda Craft. “But, to meet future mobility, safety and sustainability objectives, we must create safer roadways for all users. The Oxnard Police Department will be using these and other resources to reach the vision we all share – Toward zero deaths, every 1 recuentos.”

Activities funded by the grant will include:
• Educational presentations
• DUI checkpoints
• DUI saturation patrols
• Motorcycle safety enforcement
• Distracted driving enforcement
• Seat belt and child safety seat enforcement

En 2/24/08 en 0220 una hora 26 year male is dropped off at SJRMC by two unknown males. The victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the torso. Corona was taken into custody at his residence shortly after the incident.

While the overall crime rate in Oxnard has dropped by more than 60% per capita since 1992 we do, at times, experience these spikes of crime – typically between rival gangs that know each other and seek to inflict pain and injury.

Instead the boy commented that he thought “it was cool” that his friend had been killed in the drive-by shooting – basically implying to the officer that dying “for the gang” was a cool way to die. Frankly, the comment from this young boy has haunted me since hearing the story.

How in the world can we, as a society, turn this ship around? En 12/27/2009 en alrededor 5:11 PM, a male subject called the Oxnard Police Department and stated his daughter had threatened him with a gun.
