DETALLES:

Between the hours of approximately 1545 y 1615, the Oxnard Police Department responded to calls of three separate armed robberies in the north end area of Oxnard, specifically the 500 Block of Carnation, Orchard Park, and Princeton Avenue. In two of the three incidents the victims were robbed of their property. In each instance, the suspects were described as three black males in their teens.

Shortly after the call of the third robbery, officers observed three males matching the descriptions of the suspects. These subjects were ultimately detained. The property taken from the two robberies, in addition to an airsoft gun, was located nearby.

DETALLES: En octubre 26, 2013, en aproximadamente 0330 horas, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to the area of Eighth Street and B Street after a person reported a Hispanic male discharging a firearm into the air. Officers arrived on scene and located a subject in the area that matched the description given by witnesses. Officers attempted to make contact with the subject but he fled on foot. The subject was identified as a 19-year-old Oxnard resident named Sergio Castro Jr. Castro has also been served with the Colonia Chiques Gang Injunction. Castro was subsequently arrested for several weapons violations as well as a violation of the Colonia Chiques Gang Injunction.

En 11-2-13, en 2346 horas, officers responded to a call of an audible alarm in the 1000 Bloque del Sur Ventura carretera. Officers found the rear door to the business had been forced open. As officers approached a male subject fled from the business.

Officers gave chase on foot as the suspect continued across Wooley Road and to the 1700 / 1800 Block of Valencia Place. The suspect was located hiding in a trash can to the rear of a residence and taken into custody with the assistance of a police K9. The 15-year old suspect and an officer sustained minor injuries during the arrest.

It appears no property was taken. Officers are looking for a second suspect.

En 11/14/13 en aproximadamente 1830 horas, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Colonia Road and McKinley Avenue regarding a call of shots fired. When officers arrived on scene they searched the area, but did not locate a shooting victim.

Aproximadamente 15 minutes after the first 911 llamada, a shooting victim arrived by private vehicle at Saint John’s Hospital. La víctima, 21-year old Ivan Moreno, was immediately transported by ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center and was listed in “guarded” condition.

The motive for the shooting is unknown and there is no further information at this time.

En 1/17/14 en aproximadamente 2205 horas, an Oxnard Police Department Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Ventura Road and Fifth Street. The vehicle attempted to evade the officer and sped off at a high rate of speed after a loaded .25 caliber handgun was thrown from the vehicle. A vehicle pursuit ensued which lasted approximately 2 acta.

Durante la persecución, el conductor del vehiculo, Lewis Avalos, began driving erratically, which included failing to stop at red lights, and speeding, all in an attempt to evade the officer.

The pursuit was discontinued in the area of Fifth Street and Harbor Blvd when speeds reached 95 mph entering a residential neighborhood. The vehicle was found abandoned a few blocks away and both Avalos and the passenger, George Martinez were taken into custody without incident.

Avalos was arrested for felony evading, violation of probation, and violation of a gang injunction. Martinez was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant. Both suspects were booked into Ventura County Jail.

En 1/20/14 en alrededor 1806 horas, officers from the Oxnard Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for vehicle code violations (velocidad) in the area of Roosevelt and Second Streets. El vehículo, a Blue ’01 Ford Explorer, failed to yield for the police vehicle and a short vehicle pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle ran the stop sign at Roosevelt and Third Street, and collided with an uninvolved vehicle that was travelling west on Third Street. There were no injuries as a result of this collision; only damage to the vehicles.

The suspect vehicle continued east on Third Street. The suspect vehicle attempted to turn onto McKinley Avenue, and in doing so struck a police unit, and ultimately collided with a block wall at the intersection of Third Street and McKinley Avenue. The suspect suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.

El sospechoso, Alfredo Sanchez, was taken into custody for evading and driving under the influence. He was taken to St. John’s later to be transported to the Ventura County Main Jail.

En 2/20/14, en aproximadamente 1515 horas, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a residential burglary in progress in the 1300 bloque de W. Kamala St. Officers arrived on scene and found that the suspect, Miguel Santillan, was being detained by a resident and one of the burglary victims.

An investigation revealed that Santillan entered a residence through a doggy door. He was confronted by the resident and fled into another house across the street. Once inside the second residence, he was again detained and held until officers arrived.

Santillan was found to be in possession of property that had been taken from the residences. He was arrested for suspicion of residential burglary and booked into the Ventura County Jail. The property was returned to the owners.

DETALLES: El FBI recoge las estadísticas de criminalidad de las agencias de aplicación de la ley cada año como parte de sus informes Uniform Crime (UCR) Programa. The UCR Program collects data on four violent crimes and four property crimes. El propósito del programa es generar un conjunto fiable de estadísticas del crimen para su uso por la policía. The City of Oxnard experienced an increase in reported crime in 2013. Reported crime began to rise in 2012 and has continued on this trend through 2013. In response, the Oxnard Police Department has launched a new umbrella initiative, Operación segura y resistente aimed to further inform, engage, and empower Oxnard residents to be partners in public safety.

Under the categories of Violent Crimes, Como se indica en el cuadro 5.7% increase in aggravated assaults. “We’re never satisfied with crime increases, but it’s important to keep the numbers in perspective. Oxnard experienced a 20-year decline in violent crime, hasta 2013. The number of reported aggravated assaults in 2013 is still below the 10-year average of 337,” said Assistant Chief Scott Whitney.

Burglaries (residential and commercial) increased by 14.9%, 126 additional crimes. Residential burglaries increased by 14.2%, 89 additional crimes and commercial burglaries increased by 16.2%, 37 additional crimes.

As a part of Operación segura y resistente, the Oxnard Police Crime Prevention Unit will examine trends citywide and offer crime prevention tips to help people reduce the likelihood of becoming a victims. “In addition, we have also launched a bi-monthly crime prevention seminar series that we hope will continue to bring concerned and committed neighbors together,” Williams added.

“The Oxnard Police Department encourages community members to remain vigilant, secure property, and report any suspicious activity. Too often, people see or hear something in the moments or days leading up to a crime, and do not report it to the police. Much of the increase in property crime can be prevented by not leaving valuables visible in your vehicle, and securing our car and home doors and windows when one is not home, no matter for how long.” said Williams. “Working together and having a more engaged community will make us all safer and stronger.” Williams added.

En marzo de 13, 2014 en aproximadamente 1245 horas, investigators from the Oxnard Police Department were in the 100 block of South Rose Avenue when they observed a subject running from a business to his vehicle. The investigators saw that the subject was carrying two packs of Budweiser beer. The investigators believed that the subject committed a crime. They attempted to conduct an enforcement stop on the subject, but he fled in his vehicle. The subject was involved in three hit and run traffic collisions. One of the collisions involved minor injury. The collisions rendered the subject’s vehicle inoperable and he fled on foot, but was taken into custody.

Officers confirmed that the subject, Genaro Nieto, had committed a theft of alcohol from the business located in the 100 cuadra de South Rose Avenue. Nieto was booked for commercial burglary, evadir delito grave, felony hit-and-run causing injury, felony driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Ventura County Jail.

En marzo de 16, 2014 en aproximadamente 1900 horas, members of the Oxnard Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit were working in the area of the 2000 bloque de N. Ventura carretera. The Special Enforcement Unit was attempting to locate Ismael Solano for making terrorist threats the previous evening and being in possession of a handgun. Solano also had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest.

Solano was observed standing in an alley and when officers attempted to contact him, he immediately fled on foot. Solano discarded a handgun while he was running.

A K9 officer was working with the Special Enforcement Unit and K9 “Koa” was able to apprehend Solano as he was fleeing. Solano was taken into custody without further incident. The handgun was found to be a BB gun that resembled a 9mm semi-auto handgun.

Solano was booked for his felony warrant, making terrorist threats and delaying a peace officer.
