DETALLES:
Oxnard, California – En octubre 29 desde 9 a.m. a 2 p.m. el Departamento de Policía de Oxnard y la Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to the Oxnard Police Department located at 251 Sur C Street. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
Last April, Americans turned in 376,593 libras – 188 montones – de los medicamentos recetados en casi 5,400 sitios operados por la DEA y más de 3,000 socios estatales y de aplicación de la ley local. The Oxnard Police Department collected over 1000 pounds during this collection.
Esta iniciativa aborda un tema vital para la seguridad pública y la salud pública. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Las tasas de abuso de medicamentos recetados en el U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. en adición, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines – lavado por el inodoro o tirarlos a la basura – tanto plantear potenciales riesgos de seguridad y salud.
Cuatro días después del primer evento de devolución en septiembre 2010, El Congreso aprobó la Ley de Eliminación de Drogas Seguro y Responsable de 2010, which amends the Controlled Substances Act to allow an “ultimate user” of controlled substance medications to dispose of them by delivering them to entities authorized by the Attorney General to accept them. The Act also allows the Attorney General to authorize long term care facilities to dispose of their residents’ controlled substances in certain instances. DEA se ha iniciado la redacción de los reglamentos para aplicar la Ley, a process that can take as long as 24 mes. Until new regulations are in place, local law enforcement agencies like the Oxnard Police Department and the DEA will continue to hold prescription drug take-back events every few months.
