En noviembre 7, 2016 en 1500 hours officers responded to a disturbance call at Ben’s Laundromat at 501 Cooper carretera. Officer’s made contact with an 84 year old male employee who had been beaten with an improvised weapon during a robbery of the business.
Durante la investigación, officers were able to ascertain one juvenile male had entered the business and confronted the victim while the second acted as a lookout. The suspect who entered, robbed the victim of currency after violently beating him for several minutes with the weapon. They then both fled.
Unidad Especial de Aplicación (unidad de pandillas) officers who were conducting gang enforcement in the area of the business detained two male juveniles leaving the area. One the juveniles attempted to discard a long stick with a large nail secured to it. The juveniles were detained and ultimately identified as the suspects in the robbery. The weapon used during the robbery and the property taken was recovered.
The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for his injuries.
The juveniles are charged with robbery, conspiración, elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon. They were lodged into juvenile hall.
