DETALLES: (Oxnard, California) – Several law enforcement agencies joined the Oxnard Police Department in serving search warrants at five (5) locations in Oxnard this morning. The search warrants were in response to a recent spate of gang violence that resulted in one person dead and another person with a serious injury.

En octubre 14, 2017, en aproximadamente 9:25 p.m., a shooting occurred at the Arco gas station, situado en 2850 Avenue South Rose. One person was hit by gunfire and sustained a serious, but non-life threatening, injury. Within an hour, an additional shooting occurred in the 3300 bloque de la Merced Place. This shooting resulted in the death of 22-year old Daniel Arciga. Detectives believe the two shootings were gang related and that the second shooting was in retaliation for the first shooting.

Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) investigated the shooting at the Arco gas station and identified the suspect as 19-year old Henry Magana. En octubre 20, 2017, VCU detectives served a search warrant at Magana’s residence and seized one firearm, two home-made “zip guns” and over 100 rondas de municiones. Magana was arrested on October 25, 2017, and booked into Ventura County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit and the Violent Crimes Unit will continue to investigate both shooting incidents. Detectives believe members of the community have valuable information that can assist with the investigations. The Oxnard Police Department encourages members of the community to contact detectives if they have information regarding the recent violent assaults and to report any suspicious activity to the police.

En noviembre 1, 2017, en aproximadamente 4:25 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a single vehicle collision on Harbor Boulevard south of Wooley Road. En octubre 30^ª, 2017, en 8:15pm, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a call of two shooting victims in the 300 block of Cuesta Del Mar, en Oxnard. Nearby witnesses stated hearing multiple gunshots and seeing two possible suspects driving away from the area in a dark colored sedan. Police were unable to locate the vehicle or the suspects at the time.

A la llegada, officers discovered two male victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for further medical treatment. Their gunshot wounds were determined not to be life threatening. Investigators are continuing to follow up on additional information obtained at the scene.

En octubre 29, 2017, en aproximadamente 0345 horas, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a commercial burglary in the 800 bloque del Sur Ventura carretera. An alert citizen saw the suspect preparing to break the front window of the gas station mini-market with a bat and provided police dispatchers with a description of the suspect.

Responding officers arrived moments later and detained Jose Cendejas, a 35-year-old Oxnard resident, who was fleeing from the business with three cases of beer. Officers confirmed that a burglary had occurred and used video footage to identify Cendejas as the suspect. Cendejas was booked into Ventura County Jail for the commercial burglary. The property was later returned to the business.

DUI Checkpoint nets five arrests

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted two DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoints on October 28, 2017, entre las horas de 8:00 p.m. y 2:30 a.m. The first checkpoint was located in the southbound lanes of Vineyard Avenue north of St. Mary’s Drive and the second checkpoint was located in the northbound lanes of Oxnard Boulevard north of Second Street. En 10/27/17, en aproximadamente 1150 horas, a member of the Oxnard Police Department Auto Theft Task Force observed Reyes Sagastume in the 400 block of Palm Drive. Sagastume was wanted for violating his probation for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Officers attempted to make contact with Sagastume when he fled into his residence and barricaded himself. Approximately one hour later, Sagastume exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. Reyes Sagastume was booked for the outstanding felony warrant and resisting arrest.

The Oxnard Police Department Auto Theft Task Force was created in 2015 to address stolen vehicle issues within the City of Oxnard. The Department has added additional officers to the Auto Theft Task Force and is conducting enhanced enforcement to combat vehicle theft. As part of this effort, the Oxnard Police Department is utilizing bait cars to increase apprehension of auto theft suspects.

The Oxnard Police Department urges residents to park their vehicles in well-lit areas, lock their vehicles and to use anti-theft devices. It is also recommended to not leave vehicles unattended with the engine running as this is a common method of vehicle theft. DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint Planned this Weekend

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on October 28, 2017, en un lugar secreto dentro de los límites de la ciudad en el horario de 8:00 p.m. a 3:00 a.m.

The DRAGG (Drag Racing Contra Pandillas y Graffiti) after school program has done it again! Dragg, along with Ford Motor Company, have teamed up to design this new 2018 Police Themed Mustang like no other – and DRAGG is extremely honored to be a partner with Ford. The Mustang will be unveiled next week on October 31, 2017, at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show at the Las Vegas Convention Center. En Enero, the DRAGG team submitted a project vehicle proposal to Ford and were chosen from thousands of other entries.

DRAGG was selected to build this 2018 Ford Ecoboost Mustang alongside several other teams that will be displaying their projects at the show for thousands to see. Along with Ford, DRAGG teamed up with several other after-market equipment companies to help design the vehicle. The Mustang, referred to as “The Guardian”, symbolizes the commitment of the police to the communities they serve.

The DRAGG program began here at the Oxnard Police Department in 2011 and continues to grow throughout Ventura County thanks to the Ventura County Office of Education. High school students attend the DRAGG program twice a week at facilities here in Oxnard, and Fillmore where students receive 5 a 10 credits per semester. The DRAGG program has graduated over 350 students and have awarded over 75 scholarships to further their educational endeavors.

DRAGG is also expanding its youth program to the Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Santa Barbara Police Departments.

En octubre 25, 2017 en 9:53 pm officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to an armed robbery at the Baskin Robbins, 3520 Saviers Road in Oxnard. The officers determined the suspect entered the business, brandished a black handgun and demanded money. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled the business running in an eastbound direction.

The suspect was described as a white male adult, 37 años de edad, 6’1” tall, contextura mediana, with his hair in a ponytail. He was wearing a black baseball hat, bright yellow shirt and khaki pants. The suspect was not located in the area after the robbery.
