En abril 23, 2021, en alrededor 3:00 PM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a call of a possible hit and run of a pedestrian in the area of Pacific Avenue and Mountain View Avenue. A la llegada, los oficiales localizaron a la víctima, Matias Lopez lying in the roadway of Pacific Avenue. Se determinó que la balacera ocurrió dentro de un negocio abandonado, Lopez was struck by the suspect vehicle after a verbal altercation took place in the middle of the street. The vehicle then fled the scene prior to officer arrival. Lopez was transported to the hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Desafortunadamente, en mayo 6^ª, 2021, Matias Lopez succumbed to his injuries as a result of the incident and was pronounced dead.

The Oxnard Police Department Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and continued to work towards uncovering the nature of this incident. Based on evidence obtained, it was determined that this was a road rage incident, where the suspect and the victim had been engaged in a verbal altercation over what seemed to be a minor traffic issue. Lopez was then struck by the vehicle driven by Peter Codella.

Durante la investigación, facts were uncovered that Codella intentionally struck Lopez. The Oxnard Major Crimes Unit, along with the Ventura County District Attorney’s office worked together to examine this incident and based on the evidence obtained have charged Peter Codella with the death of Matias Lopez. He will be charged with second degree murder and will be held on a bail amount of $500,000.00.

En 6/4/21, en aproximadamente 7:21 PM, Officers from the Neighborhood Policing Team were patrolling the Sierra Linda Neighborhood when they observed a suspicious subject walking near the intersection of Lantana and Gardenia Street. Officers noted that the individual walked up to a porch in the 1200 block of Gardenia Street but did not enter the residence. The Officers believed the subject did not live at the residence and was purposely hiding from them. As the Officers approached the porch, suspect Alberto Ocampo emerged from the porch area with his hands up. Officers searched the immediate area where Ocampo was hiding and located a loaded .22 caliber handgun in a planter box. The resident was contacted and confirmed s/he had no knowledge of the handgun being there.

Ocampo is a convicted felon and documented gang member. A records search revealed the firearm was not registered to Ocampo. Officers arrested Ocampo for the felony charges of felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm not registered to him, and carrying a concealed firearm on his person.

TEMA: Out of County Car Thieves Target Chevy Silverado Pickup Trucks

En mayo 28, 2021, Auto Theft Detectives Enrique Alvarez and Greg Utter were alerted that six stolen Chevy Silverado pickup trucks were stolen overnight.

The detectives responding to the truck thefts immediately began to follow up on the cases. The follow-up investigation led the detectives to Casa Via Mar Inn located in the city of Port Hueneme, where the detectives observed two of the stolen pickup trucks parked at the inn.

Detectives determined that a group of subjects inside of a Nissan Altima were connected to the stolen trucks. The three subjects were identified as Los Angeles County residents Richard Perez, Sharon Silva, and Brian Mandujano.

Detectives found methamphetamine, parafernalia de drogas, and battery-powered tools commonly used to steal catalytic converters inside the Altima.

As the investigation continued to develop, two additional stolen pickup trucks were found in the vicinity of the inn. En total, four of the six Chevy trucks stolen overnight were recovered. The trucks were returned to the registered owners.

The suspects were arrested on drug and theft charges, including possession of stolen vehicles, burglary tools, and warrants.

The suspects were out-of-towners involved in a crime spree through Oxnard, and they have been apprehended.

The detectives assigned to this case are attached to the Property Crimes Unit. The Property Crimes Unit is made up of Detectives that are committed to solving and preventing property-related crimes in the city of Oxnard.

TEMA: Gang Member Arrested for Possession of a Firearm and Controlled Substances for Sale

En mayo 30, en aproximadamente 5:30 p.m., Oficiales de la Unidad de Aplicación Especial del Departamento de Policía de Oxnard (unidad de pandillas) conducted a traffic stop of a blue BMW 3301 en el 1900 block of Ives Avenue. Officers contacted the sole occupant of the vehicle, joel ruiz (18años). Ruiz is a known criminal street gang member within the City of Oxnard. Ruiz has had prior arrests for involvement in a criminal street gang and for conspiracy to commit a crime.

Officers had Ruiz exit the vehicle, and Ruiz was found to have a loaded 40 Glock calibre 23 semi-automatic handgun concealed in his front waistband. Ruiz was also found in possession of graffiti tools, concentrated cannabis and psilocybin edibles for sale. During a records check of the firearm, it was found to not be registered to Ruiz, and to have been involved in an officer-involved shooting in San Bernardino County. Ruiz was arrested for multiple felony firearm and controlled substance offenses.

En 5/31/21 en aproximadamente 1602 horas, Oxnard Police Department's Communication Center received several 911 llamadas sobre una pelea en el callejón de la 800 cuadra de La Canada. En mayo 31, 2021, en alrededor 4:00 PM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a call of a stabbing victim in the north alley of the 800 block of La Canada Avenue. Unfortunately the victim did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time of this press release the victim had not been positively identified.

En junio 1, 2021, en aproximadamente 11:18 P.M., un oficial intentó detener un vehículo por exceso de velocidad en el área de Oxnard Blvd. y cuarta calle. El conductor no se detuvo y se produjo una breve persecución.. En la intersección de Oxnard Blvd. y Cooper Road, el vehículo sospechoso chocó contra un automovilista no involucrado. El sospechoso, identificado como Carlos Sanchez, fue puesto bajo custodia. El automovilista no involucrado se quejó de dolor y fue revisado por personal de EMS..

Sánchez tenía órdenes de arresto por delitos graves pendientes y tenía un arma de fuego cargada en el vehículo. Sánchez es un delincuente convicto y se le prohíbe poseer un arma de fuego cargada.. Fue arrestado e ingresado en la cárcel del condado por varios delitos graves de violación de armas., evadir delito grave, y por sus órdenes pendientes. Pasajero de Sánchez, Melissa Estrella, tenía órdenes de arresto pendientes y estaba en posesión de narcóticos ilegales empaquetados para la venta. Fue arrestada e ingresada en la cárcel del condado.

The Oxnard Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing adult male.
