En la fecha y hora anterior, Oxnard Police officers responded to Toppers Pizza at 2100 Saviers Road regarding an attempt robbery that had just occurred. El sospechoso entró en el negocio, waited in line for a short time, and then passed a note to the cashier. The manager was alerted because of the suspect’s appearance and also observed a gun in the suspect’s waistband. The manager activated the robbery alarm, alerted his employees to the danger, and the suspect fled before getting any cash. The suspect was last seen in a small white compact vehicle southbound on San Marino from Iris.

DETALLES: En 5/16/14 en aproximadamente 1230 horas, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to 2195 East Channel Island Boulevard reference a stabbing victim. Las autoridades ubicaron a la víctima, Samuel Lopez, with several stab wounds to his left arm and upper torso. Samuel was transported via ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center. He is expected to survive his wounds.

Investigators from the Oxnard police department’s Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation. The suspects were identified as Oxnard residents Donald Reyes, Tare Rincon, y un 17 años de edad de menores.

As of 6/4/14, all three suspects are in police custody. They are charged with attempted murder, with the special allegation that the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang.

En 6/23/14 en aproximadamente 1400 horas, Oxnard police officers attempted to stop the driver of a truck that was wanted for an outstanding felony warrant. The driver of the truck, 26 year old Gustavo Meza, failed to stop after police activated their emergency lights. Meza led officers on a brief vehicle pursuit through downtown Oxnard. Durante la persecución, an item was discarded from the vehicle. Police officers recovered the item, which was found to be a loaded firearm.

Meza finally stopped for police officers and was taken into custody for his outstanding warrant. Meza was also charged with a violation of the gang injunction, failing to stop for officers, and weapons and drug charges.

A passenger in the truck, 23 year old Emeterio Cabrera, fled from the vehicle during the pursuit. Cabrera was caught by officers and arrested. He was charged with a violation of the gang injunction.

On the July 4^ªholiday this year, the Oxnard Police Department deployed additional officers throughout the city, including the Fuegos artificiales por el mar event at the Channel Islands Harbor. La 4^ª of July is typically one of the busiest days of the year for the Oxnard Police Department, due to the large influx of people at the Channel Islands Harbor, as well as a significant increase in service call demand. The increase in service calls on this day is largely driven by fireworks-related disturbances.

Additional police officers and code compliance inspectors were also assigned to citywide fireworks enforcement. Like many other cities, fireworks are prohibited in Oxnard, and persons may be cited up to $1,000 for possessing or using them. Este año, the Oxnard Police Department received 209 fireworks-related calls for service, en comparación con 210 en 2013. The majority of the calls were received between 8PM and midnight.

En julio 4^ª, Oxnard officers wrote 24 citations for possessing or using illegal fireworks. Aproximadamente 60 pounds of illegal fireworks were confiscated, and turned in to local fire stations for disposal. One subject was found to be in possession of a concealed semi-automatic handgun when contacted by officers as he lit illegal fireworks. The 36-year old Oxnard resident was arrested (a news release was issued earlier for this incident).

Este año, no structure fires or serious fireworks-related injuries were reported. One incident was reporting in which a tree caught fire. In another incident, vegetation in a vacant lot also caught fire. There were several reports of dumpster or garbage can fires.

La Fuegos artificiales por el mar event at the Channel Islands Harbor had an estimated attendance of 35,000 - 40,000 people this year. Despite the large numbers, no significant police-related incidents occurred.

En julio 31, 2014 en aproximadamente 0150 horas, the Oxnard Police Department responded to the parking lot of Sea Rounders, 2670 S. Calle Ventura., reference a male subject, later identified as Paul Perez, in the parking lot with a gun. Officers contacted Perez in the parking lot and located a firearm in the immediate area. Perez was arrested for various weapons charges.

DETALLES: En agosto 7, 2014, en aproximadamente 1605 horas, Deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office were seeking an individual wanted on three felony warrants. Deputies had obtained information that Rudy Cortez, a 33-year old Camarillo resident, was in a house in the 1300 block of Bottlebrush Place in the city of Oxnard.

Deputies spotted Cortez attempting to flee in a vehicle. As the Deputies attempted to contact him, shots were fired. No individuals were struck by the gunfire. Cortez continued to drive westbound on Bottlebrush Place before eventually exiting his vehicle and fleeing on foot. He was taken into custody in the 1500 block of Teal Club Road after a brief foot pursuit.

Tras su detención, Cortez was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for a medical clearance for a minor injury.

Investigators are still in the preliminary stages of their investigation. Additional information will be released at a later time.

DETALLES: Labor Day weekend is coming up. For many Americans, that means an extra day off, backyard and beach barbecues, visiting friends and family, and the unofficial end of the summer season. Desafortunadamente, it also means a sharp increase in drunk-driving-related fatalities. Starting August 15 and continuing through September 1, Ventura County police departments, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol will be aggressively targeting drunk and drugged drivers as part of a nationwide effort to end impaired driving and save lives. The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign will pair increased public awareness with high-visibility enforcement, resulting in fewer drunk drivers on Ventura County roads.

The Ventura County Avoid the 14 DUI Task Force will be aggressively looking for impaired drivers throughout the county with plans in place for three DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoints, a Multi-Agency DUI Task Force Operation, several local roving DUI Saturation Patrols, a DUI Warrant/Probation Sweep and a DUI Court Sting targeting suspended drivers who were ordered not to drive by a judge. (**See schedule of operations below**)

En 2012, había 10,322 people killed in drunk-driving crashes in the United States. Over Labor Day weekend that year, 147 lost their lives to a drunk driver, more than a third (38 por ciento) of all traffic fatalities that weekend.

Out of all the crash fatalities that weekend, one in four were attributed to drivers with a blood alcohol concentration (LAC) level of .15 percent or higher – almost twice the legal limit in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Every 51 acta, someone is killed in a drunk-driving crash. Over the Labor Day weekend, those fatalities increase to one every 34 acta. Nighttime is especially dangerous; almost half (46 por ciento) of the fatalities in nighttime crashes over the Labor Day weekend involved a driver with a BAC of .08 o mayor, en comparación con 25 percent in daytime fatal crashes.

Young drivers are overrepresented in drunk-driving crashes, también. Among drivers between the ages of 18 y 34 killed in motor vehicle crashes during the 2012 Labor Day weekend, almost half (48 por ciento) had a .08 percent BAC or higher. For drivers under 21, anything above a BAC of .00 is illegal.

This Labor Day weekend don’t let the festivities turn into fatalities. Remember that, aside from the obvious risks of killing yourself or someone else, driving impaired can also lead to serious punitive consequences. A DUI arrest can mean time in jail, loss of your license, and steep financial expenses; the average DUI conviction can cost up to $10,000.

En Septiembre 11, 2014 en alrededor 2:30 AM, officers responded to a call of a robbery at the 7-Eleven located at 1955 S. Patterson carretera. When officers arrived they contacted the male employee who was suffering from a severe laceration. Officers determined that a male subject had entered the store and attempted to steal alcohol. The clerk confronted the suspect and during the altercation, the suspect struck the victim with a bottle.

The suspect was also injured in the altercation and fled the scene on foot. Officers were able to locate a blood trail that led them into a nearby neighborhood in Port Hueneme. With the assistance of Port Hueneme Police Department, officers were able to identify the suspect as Jose Esquivel. Officers contacted him at his residence and arrested him without incident.
