Joel Soto accused of child abuse

(OXNARD, California), Joel Soto, 24 of Oxnard has been arrested by Oxnard Police detectives with the Family Protection Unit and charged with felony physical child abuse.

The Oxnard Police Department received information that an 8 month old baby girl had been hurt by her father. She suffered serious injuries to her head, face and leg. Detectives determined that Soto caused the baby’s injuries. The baby was treated at St. John’s Hospital.

Soto is currently being held at Ventura County Jail. Su fianza fue fijada en $20,000.

En 10/13/13, en aproximadamente 0230 horas, officers responded to Hueneme High School in the 500 Block of Bard Road regarding a burglary in progress reported by on-site security. Responding officers learned that about four (4) juvenile suspects forced entry into a classroom on campus and fled from a security officer after being seen. School property was discarded as the suspects ran from the area. Officers located and detained 3 de los 4 suspects after a short foot pursuit just outside the perimeter of the school.

All three (3) juvenile suspects were arrested for burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary.

En 11-16-13, en alrededor 2026 horas, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were on an enhanced patrol in response to recent violence.

Officers contacted Hernan Hernandez, an 18-year old resident of Oxnard, who had run from officers. Hernandez was detained and during a search of the area, officers discovered a loaded .380 caliber handgun that Hernandez admitted to dropping as he ran from officers.

Hernandez was arrested for 25850(un) P.C., possession of a loaded firearm.

El sábado, 12-7-13, Asociación de Downtown Oxnard Mercante será el anfitrión de su Downtown Holiday Parade anual. El evento comenzará a las 10:00 A.M. y concluir en 12:00 P.M. Esto será seguido por el 2013 Festival Tamale, que se celebrará en la Plaza Parque.

En 12-7-13, en 1152 horas, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 1800 Block of Napoleon Avenue.

Witnesses advised officers that a red sedan, possibly a Ford, pulled up where subjects were working outside at a residence. A male passenger, described as being 5-9, got out and fired multiple shots at the workers. A residence and vehicle were struck by bullets. por suerte, no individuals were struck. No hubo heridos.

The suspect got back into the vehicle and it fled.

En 12-20-2013, en 0845 horas, the Oxnard Police Department received a 9-1-1 call in reference to a shooting victim at 622 En. Juniper Street. When officers and emergency medical personnel arrived, they found a male subject who had been shot. EMS began medical care and transported him to the Ventura County Medical Center. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim later died from his injuries.

Another male subject was with the victim when he was shot at the location on Juniper Street. The Department is currently not releasing the name of this person. The investigation is in the preliminary stages and investigators are still determining what happened. This is an active investigation and more information will be released at a later time.

En enero 18, 2014, en alrededor 1:52 A.m., an Oxnard Police Officer and Police Explorer were sitting in a marked black and white police unit blocking traffic for a traffic collision investigation, when they were rear ended by Javier Oros. Oros was determined to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and was arrested at the scene for felony driving under the influence.

All involved parties sustained minor injuries and were treated at the Ventura County Medical Center.

Oros was later booked into the Ventura County Jail.

En marzo de 11, 2013 en aproximadamente 2230 horas, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired in the area of First Street and Marquita Avenue. Shortly after arriving on scene, officers were notified of a shooting victim at Saint John’s Hospital.

Detectives learned the victim was driving a vehicle when he slowed and stopped for a stop sign at the intersection of First Street and Marquita Avenue. A suspect approached the victim’s vehicle armed with a firearm and shot several times into the vehicle. The victim was seriously injured by the gunfire, but was able to transport himself to the hospital.

Durante la investigación, Oxnard resident Christian Rodriguez (18 años de edad) was identified as the suspect in this incident. En enero 14, 2014, Rodriguez was charged with attempted murder for the March 11^ª disparo. Rodriguez was already in custody for unrelated charges at the Ventura County Jail.

En 1-26-14, en 2:09 A.m., officers and EMS personnel responded to the intersection of Rose Avenue and Raiders Way in reference to an injury traffic collision involving a bicyclist. When they arrived on scene, they located the bicyclist, Gerald Garcia, tumbado en la calzada.

Preliminary investigation indicated that a Volkswagen GTI was traveling southbound on Rose Avenue. Two bicylists, one of them Gerald Garcia, were riding southbound on Rose Avenue in the bicycle lane. According to a witness, for unknown reasons the GTI was traveling in the bicycle lane. The GTI collided with the rear of the bicycle being ridden by Garcia. Garcia was ejected from the bicyle. The GTI fled the scene of the collision with the bicycle still stuck underneath.

With the assistance of witnesses, officers were able to quickly locate the suspect vehicle and the bicycle a short distance away. The GTI was driven by Policarpio Diaz, 29 año, Residente de Oxnard. Diaz was the sole occupant of the vehicle and displayed objective symptomology of being under the influence of alcohol. Diaz was arrested and booked into Ventura County Jail for Felony DUI, Felony Hit and Run, Felony Vehicular Manslauther, and two outstanding misdemeanor DUI warrants.

Garcia suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision.

(Oxnard, California) The Oxnard Police Department is releasing the names of the officers who responded to Del Sol Park in Oxnard on February 5, 2014. The call involved 42-year-old Oxnard resident Rosa Guillen who was in possession of a handgun and had threatened suicide. Guillen had been at Ventura County Medical Center receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound suffered during the event involving the officers.

Guillen was arrested Friday, Febrero 21, 2014 for violation of section 417.4 del Código Penal de California – Brandishing a Replica Firearm. Guillen was booked into Ventura County Main Jail on this charge and an additional charge of Violation of Probation.

The Oxnard Police officers involved (all assigned to Patrol) are as follows:

Oficial David Landsverk, 16 years of service
