DETALLES: Aproximadamente 12:22 PM on Wednesday, 2/5/14, the Oxnard Police Department’s Emergency Communications Center received a call from Ventura County Behavioral Health. The staff member reported that a 42 year-old woman called Behavioral Health and said that she was going to commit suicide. The female said that she was at Del Sol Park with a loaded handgun, and that she was going to kill herself.

Oxnard police officers were dispatched to respond to this call. The primary officers who responded had previously attended Crisis Intervention Training (CIT). CIT training is designed to assist officers in de-escalating potentially dangerous situations with persons suffering from mental illness.

Officers made contact with the woman in the park, and attempted to gain her cooperation. The officers indicated over the police radio that the woman had a handgun, and was non-compliant.

Preliminary information indicates that shortly after the officers contacted her, the woman raised the handgun and pointed it at the officers. Two officers fired their service weapons.

The woman was struck by gunfire. No officers were injured. Officers immediately requested that emergency medical services respond. The woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave, que es el procedimiento estándar.

En noviembre 13, 2014, en aproximadamente 1835 horas, Oxnard police officers responded to a report of a robbery in the area of Charles Street and Canterbury Way, which is in the Southwinds neighborhood. The Southwinds neighborhood is the small geographical area south of Pleasant Valley Road, north of Hueneme Road, east of “J” Street and west of Saviers Road. This was the 17^ª robbery reported in this area in the last four months.

While officers were investigating the robbery, they were alerted by residents to possible suspects that were still in the area. Officers were able to locate and detain two subjects. One of the subjects was positively identified as one of the robbers.

Ariel Rodriguez, un 21 year old resident of the Southwinds neighborhood, fue detenido por robo.

Officers are looking for a second suspect involved in the robbery who was described as a Hispanic male, 25-30 años de edad, wearing a black sweater and black pants in possession of a knife.

En 2/16/14 en alrededor 1720 horas, the Oxnard Fire Department and the Oxnard Police Department responded to a vehicle fire in the 1200 Block of Mercantile Street. Una vez en escena, Police and Fire personnel learned that this was part of a dispute between the victim and the suspect, Mendoza. Mendoza had lit the tent of the victim on fire, and the fire spread to an adjacent vehicle. Witnesses pointed out Mendoza to responding officers. The officers contacted Mendoza, and found evidence on her which was related to the crime.

Mendoza was arrested for an outstanding warrant as well as 451(b)PC, Arson of an Inhabited Structure or Property. La víctima no resultó herido.

En noviembre 27, 2014, en aproximadamente 4:00 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department were conducting directed patrols in several neighborhoods in east Oxnard in response to a rash of violent crimes over the past several weeks. Officers contacted several adult males in the 500 block of Pacific Avenue. Sergio Cupa, a 31-year old Oxnard resident who had previously been served with the Colonia Chiques civil gang injunction, was found in possession of property believed to be stolen and was subsequently arrested. David Mosqueda, a 45-year old Oxnard resident and a Post-Release Offender (PRO), was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and a PRO hold.

The Post Release Offender (PRO) Program was created by Assembly Bill 109 - el 2011 Realineamiento de la seguridad pública, que entró en vigencia en octubre 1, 2011. Hernandez was later found to be in possession of a loaded .40 pistola calibre. The handgun was later discovered to have been stolen during a burglary in the city of Santa Paula. Hernandez was subsequently arrested for possession of a stolen firearm.

En 03/1/14 en aproximadamente 0405 horas, agentes del Departamento de Policía de Oxnard respondieron a la 1700 block of Fisher Drive reference suspicious subjects possibly casing for vehicle burglary. The reporting party was a neighbor who called the police after observing the suspects sitting in a vehicle using flashlights. Officers arrived and apprehended the suspects, Miguel Viveros (31 año) and Alejandro Ramuco (22 año), as they attempted to flee. The suspects had ransacked the victim vehicle and removed property from it.

The Oxnard Police Department has located 73 year old Maria DeJesus Garcia De Waldo. The Department received a call to check on the well-being of a disoriented female in a commercial area of Oxnard. When officers arrived they confirmed the female was Waldo. She was unharmed and in good health.

In response to six recent armed robberies over the past several months at the 7-11 convenience store, situado en 2201 East Channel Islands Boulevard, the Oxnard Police Department is requesting the community’s assistance regarding possible suspect information. We have detailed the incidents below and provided information on how the public can assist.

The first robbery occurred on November 13^ª, 2013 en 0106 horas. Officers were again advised by the store employee that an unknown male suspect entered the store armed with a baseball bat and demanded money. The suspect matched the description of the previous armed robbery which took place on November 13^ª at the store.

The third armed robbery took place on November 17^ª, 2013 en 0359 horas. Officers responded to the same 7-11 tienda. It is believed that the same male suspect entered the store again threatening a baseball bat and demanded money. This time the suspect stole a minimal amount of money. The suspect fled on foot prior to officer arrival. The suspect matched the description of the previous armed robberies which took place earlier in the week.

En noviembre 19^ª, 2013 en 0030 horas, la 7-11 store was robbed again. It is believed the same male suspect attempted to rob the store. The suspect again entered the store with a baseball bat and demanded money. This time the suspect fled the store without obtaining any money or property. The suspect was again described with a similar description as the previous robberies.

The fifth armed robbery occurred on November 24^ª, 2013 en 0130 hours Oxnard police responded to a call of another robbery from the 7-11 tienda. The suspect was again armed with a baseball bat. The suspect made off with a minimal amount of money. The suspect again matched the description of the male in the previous robberies.

The most recent robbery took place on March 10^ª, 2014 en 0229 hours the 7-11 tienda. Again an unknown male suspect armed with a metal pipe, entered the store and demanded money. The suspect stole a small amount of undisclosed property during this robbery but did not get away with any money. The suspect again fled on foot prior to officer arrival.

Based on the evidence obtained at the scene, it is believed that all six robberies have been committed by the same individual.

The Oxnard Police Department Robbery Unit is continuing their investigation and is following up on several leads regarding these incidents. We are asking for the public’s assistance with any information regarding these recent robberies.

En enero 8, 2015 en aproximadamente 430 PM officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit attempted a traffic stop in the area of Saviers Road and Hill Street reference a traffic violation. The vehicle failed to yield and a short vehicle pursuit ensued. During the pursuit two subjects fled from the vehicle. La 16 year old male juvenile fled from the vehicle and was quickly apprehended. He was in possession of loaded handgun. el segundo tema, Jose Varela, was apprehended with the assistance of several citizens who directed officers to his location.

Jose Varela and the juvenile are both documented gang members. The juvenile was booked on several firearm related charges and Varela was charged with delaying a peace officer’s duties.

En 3/24/14, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to two robberies. Both of these robberies involved firearms.

The first incident occurred in the 1600 Block of Jeanette Drive. The victim was robbed of his wallet and other items. The suspects were described as two Hispanic males, both 18-19 años de edad. One suspect was wearing a gray sweatshirt and black pants; the second suspect was wearing a black sweatshirt and black pants. Both suspects were in possession of handguns.

The second incident occurred in the 300 Bloque de Campbell Camino. The victim was robbed of his wallet and other items. The suspects were described as two Hispanic males, both 25-30 años de edad. One suspect was wearing a gray sweater and blue/white checkered shorts; the second suspect was wearing a gray sweater and blue jeans. Both suspects were in possession of handguns and also struck the victim with their handguns. The victim was not seriously injured.

En 1/9/15, en aproximadamente 2316 horas, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to the parking lot of 608 South “A” St reference a subject that was struck by a vehicle. Officers responded to the location and located the victim, 26 year old Santa Barbara resident, who was lying on the ground with a severe head injury. Detectives from the Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit along with the Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit responded to conduct an investigation. The preliminary investigation found a black BMW 4-door vehicle, with paper plates, entered the parking lot. A passenger of the suspect vehicle exited and confronted the victim and his associates who were standing in the parking lot. The passenger re-entered the suspect vehicle. Several moments later the vehicle re-entered the parking lot and struck the victim with the vehicle. Detectives are still working on obtaining more information about the incident and suspect(s).
