DETALLES:
En 7-18-14, en 2340 horas, officers were in the parking lot of St. John’s Regional Medical Center where they contacted three subjects attempting to conceal themselves in a green pickup truck. The subjects initially were non-compliant but ultimately came out of the truck. A search of the truck produced two handguns and ammunition. Omar Rodriguez, 8-1-95, was charged with carrying a concealed handgun in a motor vehicle.
One of the passengers was a 15-year old juvenile who had been reported missing. That subject was returned home. The other passenger was a 19-year old male who was questioned and released.
Officers learned these subjects had taken a 14-year old male friend to St. John’s Regional Medical Center ER to be treated for a single gunshot wound. This victim’s wounds were not life-threatening. Because of conflicting statements from all four subjects it is not clear what occurred and where the incident took place. Una investigación continúa.
In an effort to address the recent increase in firearms-related crimes, the Oxnard Police Department launched the Operation Safer and Stronger Initiative, así como el equipo de ataque de armas de fuego (RÁPIDO) led by the Violent Crime Unit, to proactively remove firearms from prohibited persons within the city. The objective of this initiative and FAST is to reduce gun violence in Oxnard through education, intervention, and enforcement.
