(Oxnard, California) En 10:44 p.m. en junio 23, 2012, Oxnard PD responded to the 1100 block of South L Street regarding a subject possibly overdosing on drugs. Officers attempted to calm the man down in order to facilitate aid from the Oxnard Fire Department and Gold Coast Ambulance, who were staged nearby.

La 26 year-old male Oxnard resident would not comply as officers attempted to de-escalate the situation. Officers attempted to physically restrain him, and a brief struggle ensued. After being handcuffed, the officers noticed the man had become unconscious. Emergency medical personnel, who were standing by, immediately began life-saving measures. The man was transported to St. John’s Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 11:41 p.m.

The name of the suspect will not be released until the next of kin and immediate family can be properly notified.

The Oxnard PD and the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office are working together to determine the facts of this matter. The officers involved in this case have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure for incidents of this nature.

(Oxnard, California) En junio 30, 2012, entre las horas de 7 p.m. y 2 a.m., oficiales de la Oxnard PD realizaron dos puestos de control de sobriedad y de licencia de conducir. Los Puntos de comprobación fueron: southbound Saviers Road just south of Bryce Canyon and northbound Ventura Road south of Seventh Street.

(Oxnard, California) En 7/23/12 en 0103 horas, the Oxnard Police Department was notified regarding a critical missing juvenile; Jacob Thomas King. Jacob was last seen on July 22, 2012 en 11 p.m. en el 5200 block of Charles Street in Oxnard.

Jacob is a black male, 5 pies 4 pulgadas de alto, weighs 85 pounds and has brown hair and eyes. Jacob was last seen wearing a gray shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the unsolved murder of Steven Anthony Lemos, Sr. El tiroteo ocurrió en octubre 10, 2002 en alrededor 11 p.m. en el 1900 block of North “H” Street in Oxnard. Lemos was shot several times and died later during surgery. Lemos’ one year old son was with him when he was shot but was not hurt during the incident. En octubre 11, 2012, en 5:48 horas, the Oxnard Police Department Emergency Communications Center received several calls of subjects in possession of knives and sticks fighting in the 600 block of Dollie Street. A single officer arrived within seconds and observed three male subjects who had overpowered a male subject, later identified as Jose Villalobos, and were holding him on the ground.

The investigation lead to the arrest of Villalobos for the above charges. Villalobos had threatened five persons while brandishing a knife. One male victim and three of his brothers defended themselves ultimately subduing Villalobos. Villalobos was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for moderate injuries. The victims sustained very minor injuries.

El miércoles, Octubre 17, en alrededor 7:50 AM, Oxnard Police and Fire personnel responded to the 600 bloque de Hermosa Dr en Oxnard. An incendiary device, consisting of a plastic bottle filled with chemicals, had been detonated on a lawn of a residence resulting in the lawn being burned.

En octubre 22, 2012, en alrededor 3:57 P.M., Oxnard PD officers responded to Pleasant Valley Road and Olds Road/Etting Road after receiving a call of an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a motorcycle. Una vez en escena, officers and EMS personnel found that a Honda motorcycle had collided with a yellow Ocean View school bus in the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Olds Road/Etting Road.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Honda motorcycle, driven by James Joseph Kelly, was traveling eastbound on Pleasant Valley Road towards Olds Road/Etting Road. The yellow school bus, driven by Gilbert Endo, was traveling westbound in the left turn lane on Pleasant Valley at Olds Road/Etting Road. Once traffic was clear, the school bus began to make a left turn to go eastbound onto Etting Road in front of the Honda motorcycle. Unable to avoid a collision, Driver Kelly applied the brake causing the motorcycle to go down and skid towards the bus. The Honda skid directly into the path of the turning school bus. Desafortunadamente, Driver Kelly sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. It should be noted that the motorcyclist was wearing a full face helmet at the time of the collision.

Driver Endo was not injured. The school bus had no passengers at the time of the collision.

The Oxnard Police Department has been awarded a new traffic safety grant for an anti-DUI program aimed at preventing deaths and injuries on our roadways. Additional enforcement measures to combat impaired driving are coming as a result of a recent $95,000 grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety to Oxnard. “DUI affects everyone and it is our responsibility to make our roadways safe for our citizens,” said Andrew Salinas, Oxnard Police Department Commander.

The special DUI Checkpoint grant is to assist in efforts to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol and other drug related collisions in the community. The grant activities will specifically target impaired driving offenders as well as educating the public on the dangers of impaired driving through the use of DUI/driver’s license checkpoints. Encima 300 deserving children (siglos 6 a 12) - 40 from each of the six participating schools – were invited to the 14^ª annual Cops-4-Tots Toy Give-away at the La Colonia Police Storefront (211 La avenida del norte de Grant). Toys were made available for children that were selected by the schools or families that had toddler age children. An appearance by Santa Claus added to the excitement of the event.

The children and parents were treated with Mexican bread, Champurrado (hot drink), and treats with Christmas decorations.

The participating schools include: Ramona School, Rose Avenue School, Cesar Chavez School, Elm Street School, Green Valley, and La Escuelita.

Members of the Oxnard Police Department Command Staff, District Three Officers, and Military members from the Port Hueneme Naval Base, AVID students from Frank Intermediate School, Oxnard Police Volunteers, and other community volunteers were on hand to assist with handing out toys.

La 14^ª annual Cops-4-Tots Toy Give-away was made possible by donations from the Oxnard Police Officers Association, Latino Peace Officers Association (Ventura County Chapter), and members of the United States Navy, El Concilio del Condado de Ventura, the Oxnard business community, and residents of the City of Oxnard.
