DETALLES:
El martes, Marzo 25, 2015, en alrededor 9:03 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to Victoria Avenue, south of Gonzales Road, in reference to an injury traffic collision.

When officers arrived at the collision scene, they found that three vehicles were involved and sustained extensive damage. Emergency medical personnel arrived and immediately engaged in rescue efforts as two drivers were still trapped inside the vehicles. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate Javier Murillo, the driver of a white Chrysler 200 sedan and also used them to free Maria Cortez from the driver’s seat of a silver Nissan Altima. Juan Rodriguez, the driver of the third vehicle, a silver Honda Accord, sustained minor injuries and was later released from the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Chrysler, for an unknown reason, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Victoria Avenue when it collided head-on with the Nissan Altima. Almost simultaneously, a secondary collision occurred when the Chrysler struck the Honda Accord that was also traveling southbound on Victoria Avenue.

Driver Murillo was transported from the scene to the Ventura County Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery for extensive injuries. Actualmente se encuentra en estado crítico.. Driver Cortez was also transported to the Ventura County Medical Center where she is listed in serious condition. She sustained several injuries including two broken legs. The right front passenger in her vehicle, Manuela Jara-Avila, was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center and is in stable condition. She sustained lacerations to her right leg and injuries to her back and neck.

Un llamado a la acción comunitaria

Reunión comunitaria

En respuesta a una reciente serie de crímenes violentos relacionados con pandillas, El jefe de policía de Oxnard, Jeri Williams, celebró una reunión especial el lunes, Marzo 9, 2015 con miembros de la Junta Asesora del Jefe, así como con varios líderes religiosos de toda la comunidad. El propósito de la reunión fue informar a los líderes comunitarios sobre una serie reciente de tiroteos involucrados en pandillas., compartir la respuesta del departamento de policía a la violencia, y facilitar una mesa redonda centrada en cómo la comunidad puede ayudar a frenar la violencia..

La situación

durante la reunión, Los asistentes fueron informados sobre once (11) tiroteos que involucran a trece (13) Víctimas ocurridas en Oxnard entre el 14 de enero y el 9 de marzo.. La respuesta del Departamento de Policía de Oxnard

El Departamento de Policía de Oxnard ha reasignado una variedad de recursos destinados a detener el ciclo de violencia, así como a proporcionar una mayor presencia uniformada para tranquilizar a los residentes del vecindario.. La Oficina de Servicios de Campo ha aumentado las patrullas en bicicleta en los vecindarios afectados y ha mejorado los niveles de personal de la Unidad Especial de Ejecución. Los agentes de policía de Oxnard han realizado veinticuatro (24) detenciones relacionadas con armas de fuego desde el inicio del citado ciclo de violencia tras realizar ciento seis (106) en 2014. El Departamento de Policía de Oxnard confiscó doscientos cuarenta (240) armas de fuego en 2014 y continuaremos enfocándonos en las personas prohibidas en posesión de armas de fuego a través de los esfuerzos del Equipo de ataque de armas de fuego. Miembros de la comunidad exigen que cese la violencia

Coordinador de seguridad juvenil de la ciudad de Oxnard, Ken Klopman, También estuvo presente en la reunión y trabajará con el grupo para determinar qué tipo de eventos/marchas se llevarán a cabo en el futuro.. En 5-23-15 acerca de 0213 horas, Oxnard Police Officers were dispatched to a business in the 2800 bloque de S. Rose Avenue regarding a suspicious subject. The officers located the subject and identified him as Jorge Coria. While the officers were interviewing Coria he suddenly stood up and ran away. The officers pursued him on foot as he ran across Oxnard Blvd. They observed him remove a handgun from his waistband and discard it. Coria fell as he was running and was taken into custody without further incident. The officers inspected the firearm and found it was a loaded .38 revólver calibre. Coria was booked into the Ventura County Jail for numerous Felony firearms violations and resisting arrest.

El lunes, Junio 15, 2015, entre las horas de 8:00 a.m. y 12:00 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a special enforcement operation targeting drivers who appeared in court for cases involving imposed driver’s license suspensions. Each of the individuals appearing in court was informed or reminded by a judge that their driving privilege was suspended.

Durante la operacion, seven individuals left the court room, drove away from the courthouse and were stopped by officers. Officers arrested all seven drivers for violations of driving with a suspended driver’s license. Four of the drivers had DUI related driving suspensions, two had failure to appear in court suspensions and one driver’s privilege was suspended from a previous arrest for the possession of a large quantity of marijuana. The seven vehicles were towed from the scene of the stop and potentially face a 30-day impound.

The Oxnard Police Department will continue to conduct operations like these to help make our community and roadways safer.

These operations are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Transportation Administration.

En julio 16, 2015 en aproximadamente 1700, officers from the Special Enforcement Unit were conducting gang enforcement in the downtown area of the city. SEU officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of 4^ª Street and “B” Street. During the traffic stop Daniel Ruiz, a documented gang member, was contacted and found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun.

Ruiz was arrested on several firearm related charges including being a felon in possession of a firearm. Ruiz was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail.

El viernes, Octubre 23, 2015, en alrededor 1630 horas, officers from the Oxnard Police Department arrested Driver Andres Ceja following an extensive investigation of the collision that killed 24 year old Desiree Mendez on July 17, 2015. Ceja was booked into the Ventura County Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, driving while under the influence of drugs and driving with a suspended driver’s license. El viernes, Julio 17, 2015, en alrededor 3:45 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the intersection of Saviers Road and Wolff Street in reference to an injury traffic collision involving two vehicles, one being a small motorcycle.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcycle, driven by Andres Ceja and with a female passenger, was traveling northbound on Saviers Road. The Chevrolet truck was traveling southbound on Saviers Road approaching the intersection of Wolff Street. For an unknown reason, the motorcycle turned left at Wolff Street and into the direct path of the truck causing a broadside collision. The impact caused Driver Ceja and his female passenger to be ejected from the motorcycle. Both of them were transported from the scene to the Ventura County Medical Center with critical injuries. The female was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Driver Ceja is currently listed in stable condition. Driver Trevino was uninjured.

Driver Ceja and his female passenger were not wearing motorcycle helmets at the time of the collision.

DETALLES: En 12/22/15 en aproximadamente 2154 horas, an Oxnard Police patrol sergeant observed a vehicle driving recklessly in the area of Gonzales Road and Patterson Road. He attempted to stop the white Toyota Scion however, the driver refused to yield. The sergeant pursued the vehicle westbound on Gonzales Road and estimated that the vehicle reached speeds over 100 mph. The sergeant lost sight of the vehicle when it reached the intersection at Harbor Boulevard.

While officers searched the area they could hear screaming coming from the thick brush located west of the intersection toward the beach. When they investigated further they were able to see part of the white Scion about 230 feet into the brush off the roadway. With the help of Oxnard Fire and the Ventura County Sheriff’s helicopter, the officers were able to locate the driver of the vehicle and identified him as 21 year-old Lompoc resident Fernando Arias Bribiesca. Bribiesca suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for medical treatment.

Bribiesca was charged with evading a police officer, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and transportation of a controlled substance.

DETALLES: En enero 16, 2016, en alrededor 8:41 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and several pedestrians. The collision occurred at the intersection of Thomas Avenue and Saviers Road.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Hugo Escobar’s vehicle collided into the pedestrians as they were crossing the street in the cross walk. The pedestrians were transported to VCMC for treatment. Genaro Rodriguez and the 11 month old were admitted to the hospital for observation.
