En septiembre 30, 2014 en aproximadamente 1630 horas, Officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of Hill Street and Ventura Road. Immediately upon the vehicle stopping two subjects fled from it. Jonathan Barragan and Emeterio Cabrera were quickly detained.
The driver of the vehicle Federico Zapian is currently on parole. All three subjects are known gang members and Cabrera is on the Colonia gang injunction.
During a search of the area where the subjects had fled a loaded handgun was recovered.
Barragan was arrested for weapons violations, Cabrera was arrested for violating the gang injunction and Zapian was arrested for parole violation.
In an effort to address the recent increase in firearms-related crimes, el Departamento de Policía de Oxnard lanzó la iniciativa Operation Safer and Stronger, así como el equipo de ataque de armas de fuego (RÁPIDO) liderado por la Unidad de Crímenes Violentos, to proactively remove firearms from prohibited persons in the City. The objective of the initiative and FAST is to reduce gun violence in Oxnard through education, intervention, and enforcement.
