(Oxnard, California) The Oxnard Police Department has seen three cases of auto theft in which the driver leaves the keys in their car while the car is running and leaves the vehicle unsupervised. These cases occurred between January and February 2012 in the Rose Park neighborhood. These incidents of auto theft are 100 percent preventable. We strongly encourage members of the public never to leave their keys in the car whether the car is running or not. Además, Oxnard municipal code section 8-45(La) indicates that you can be cited if an officer encounters your vehicle running, unattended. Aside from being a target of theft, it is not safe to leave a running car unattended. En este punto,, investigators do not have any suspect information in these cases.
There are steps you can take to help prevent your car from being stolen or broken into. Lock your car and do not leave personal items of value visible. Often thieves walk through parking lots or neighborhoods and choose the cars to break into based upon items that are visible. If you must leave valuable items in your car, lock them in the trunk. en adición, please report any suspicious activity to the Oxnard PD. If you see a person who is not familiar to you walking or driving around your neighborhood, get a good physical description of the person and vehicle and call (805) 385-7740.
