DETALLES:
En mayo 10, 2017, entre las horas de 6:30 AM y 11:00 AM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department teamed up with Special Agents from the Union Pacific Police Department and deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department for an enforcement operation on the railroad tracks running through the City of Oxnard from Camarillo to Montalvo. The objective was to look for any and all trespassers on the private railroad property belonging to Union Pacific Railroad. también, all vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists who failed to yield the right-of-way or obey train crossing signs/warnings at all grade crossings.
One vehicle was towed as the driver had a suspended Driver License for a prior DUI conviction.
California ocupó el puesto # 1 in the United States for highway-rail grade collisions in 2016 con un total de 157 collisions with fatalities. Texas was in 2nd place with 64 collisions with fatalities.
The public is reminded that trespassing on Union Pacific railroad property, or any railroad property, is a misdemeanor offense. It is also life-threatening considering the speed and size of any train. Toda persona declarada violación de la propiedad del ferrocarril está sujeto a arresto. en adición, it is unlawful for any pedestrian, bicyclist or vehicle to travel around or under a railroad arm once the red warning lights and alarm are activated and the gate arm is closed or closing.
Listed below are some general rail safety information:
- Train tracks are private property, no matter which railroad owns them. Los trenes tienen el derecho de paso 100% of the time — over ambulances, fire engines, cars, the police and pedestrians.
- If there are rails on the railroad ties, assume that the track is in use, even if there are weeds or the track looks “rusty.”
- Una locomotora típica pesa aproximadamente 400,000 libras o 200 montones. ¿Cuándo 100 railcars are added to the locomotive, the train can weigh approximately 6,000 montones.
- A train may extend three feet or more outside the steel rail, which makes the safety zone for pedestrians well beyond the rails themselves.
Un tren de carga 100-automóvil que viaja a 55 miles per hour will need more than a mile to stop — that’s approximately 18 football fields — once the train is set into emergency braking.
- Modern trains are quieter than ever, with no telltale “clackety-clack.” también, an approaching train will always be closer and moving faster than you think.
By the time a locomotive engineer can see a trespasser or a vehicle on the tracks, it is too late.
In an effort to increase motorist and pedestrian safety near railroad tracks, law enforcement officers will continue to enforce the State’s railroad crossing laws. Los peatones, including students, must cross at designated railroad crossings. Durante esta operación, traffic safety tips were provided to motorists and pedestrians to avoid becoming a rail collision statistic.
Funding for this enforcement is provided to the Union Pacific Police Department by Operation Lifesaver, a non-profit organization to educate the public about railroad safety and making the community safer. More information about railroad safety can be found by going to: www.oli.org.

This operation was also funded in part by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) ya través de la Administración Nacional de Seguridad Vial.
