En junio 25, 2017, en alrededor 0112 horas, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a shooting victim in the 3600 block of South B Street in Oxnard. DUI Checkpoint Nets Four DUI Arrests

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on June 24, 2017, entre las horas de 8:00 p.m. y 3:00 a.m. The checkpoint was located southbound Rose Avenue south of Tiesa Lane. En junio 23, 2017, en 2:45 p.m., an Oxnard officer located a black Kia which had been recently reported stolen. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 100 bloque de Channel Islands Blvd. West. y detuvieron al conductor, 30 year old Oxnard resident Ricardo Lopez. The juvenile was charged with: Robbery and Kidnapping. Eber Olguin was transported to Ventura County Jail. The juvenile is currently in custody at the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center awaiting his hearing.

(OXNARD, California) – Detectives with the Oxnard Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit have arrested a second suspect in the 2012 murder of 19-year old Jose Gonzales of Oxnard. A 22-year old Hispanic male, who was with Gonzales at the time, was also shot but survived the shooting.

The shooting occurred on July 9, 2012 en aproximadamente 8:52 P.M. en el 2500 block of Greenbrook Drive. Oxnard police officers responded to the scene after receiving several 9-1-1 calls of a shooting victim at that location. The police officers arrived and found Jose Gonzales suffering from a gunshot wound. Police officers found a second shooting, a 22-year old Hispanic male, a short distance away. The 22-year old was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) and survived his injury. Desafortunadamente, Gonzales was declared deceased at the scene.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit and the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) responded to the scene. The Major Crimes Unit led the investigation and worked very closely with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. The detectives worked tirelessly and persistently in order to obtain sufficient evidence to warrant the arrest of suspects in this case.

The first arrest in this case occurred on January 23, 2017. Major Crimes Detectives arrested 25-year old Hugo Sanchez, de Oxnard, for his involvement in the murder of Jose Gonzales.

En junio 19, 2017, shortly before noon, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and local law enforcement authorities in Menasha, Wisconsin, arrested 23-year old Gustavo Cuevas of Oxnard. Cuevas was taken into custody based on an arrest warrant Major Crimes Detectives obtained for his involvement in the murder of Jose Gonzales. Cuevas is in the process of being extradited back to Ventura County. Until he is returned, Cuevas will be held at detention facility in the state of Wisconsin.

The arrest of Cuevas is a result of the hard work and dedication of the Major Crimes Detectives, and in direct partnership with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.

Major Crimes Detectives will continue to investigate the senseless murder of Jose Gonzales and future arrests in this case are probable. The number of people living illegally along the Santa Clara River has grown significantly since authorities last cleared out the permanent encampments along the Ventura River. Officers were aware that the number of illegal encampments had been growing. Officers also talked to an additional six people and warned them about illegally camping.

This area of the river bottom has caused growing concern for authorities and nearby residents in the recent months due to thefts and vandalism of property in the adjacent communities.

During the assessment, representatives from St Vincent De Paul were on site to provide outreach services for our homeless population. Several large homeless encampments were also found were no one was contacted, but showed signs of recent use.

We would like to remind the public that while the City of Oxnard does not provide any direct homeless services or emergency housing, the City does provide funding to several agencies and non-profit organizations that do provide such services. En junio 19, 2017, en aproximadamente 4:45 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department Gang Unit (Unidad Especial de Aplicación) were conducting uniform gang enforcement in the area of “J” Street and Bard Rd when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a vehicle violation.

The vehicle was driven by Cesar Reyes who failed to stop causing officers to pursue him. Reyes committed several traffic violations, and a loaded firearm was thrown out the window, during the pursuit. The pursuit stopped in the 800 block of Joyce Dr, in Port Hueneme. An unidentified Hispanic male passenger fled from the vehicle and was not detained. Reyes was arrested for the felony pursuit, parafernalia de drogas, and gang injunction violations. The firearms charges are pending further investigation.

En junio 17, 2017, en aproximadamente 7:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to a gas station in the 1900 block of North Rose Ave. reference a suspicious vehicle that was left abandoned with the engine running. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the reporting party who provided a physical description of the driver that left the vehicle.

Officers located a subject in the area that matched the driver’s description. El sujeto fue identificado como 47 year old Port Hueneme resident Daniel Frenes. A records check revealed Frenes was on supervised release for narcotic related offenses. Officers searched the vehicle and located a loaded handgun and narcotics in the vehicle. Frenes was arrested for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and for narcotics possession.
