DETALLES: En noviembre 3, 2017, en 10:00 al, Oxnard policías respondieron a la 800 bloque de S. ‘G’ Street regarding a brandishing of a firearm. Officers learned, Juan Edward Ascencio, confronted the victim and threaten to shoot him. Ascencio led the victim at gunpoint to his vehicle. The victim quickly fled the area and called the police. The departments Special Enforcement Unit (SU), K-9 Unidad Unidad de Delitos Violentos y (VCU) all responded. It was later determined that Ascencio had left the area. Phone contact was made with Ascencio and he was arrested without incident in the area of Fifth Street and Ventura Road. Ascencio was charged with Criminal Threats, Exhibiting Deadly Weapon (Arma de fuego), and Kidnapping. Ascencio was subsequently booked into the Ventura County Jail.

DETALLES: (Oxnard, California) – Several law enforcement agencies joined the Oxnard Police Department in serving search warrants at five (5) locations in Oxnard this morning. The search warrants were in response to a recent spate of gang violence that resulted in one person dead and another person with a serious injury.

En octubre 14, 2017, en aproximadamente 9:25 p.m., a shooting occurred at the Arco gas station, situado en 2850 Avenue South Rose. One person was hit by gunfire and sustained a serious, but non-life threatening, injury. Within an hour, an additional shooting occurred in the 3300 bloque de la Merced Place. This shooting resulted in the death of 22-year old Daniel Arciga. Detectives believe the two shootings were gang related and that the second shooting was in retaliation for the first shooting.

Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) investigated the shooting at the Arco gas station and identified the suspect as 19-year old Henry Magana. En octubre 20, 2017, VCU detectives served a search warrant at Magana’s residence and seized one firearm, two home-made “zip guns” and over 100 rondas de municiones. Magana was arrested on October 25, 2017, and booked into Ventura County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit and the Violent Crimes Unit will continue to investigate both shooting incidents. Detectives believe members of the community have valuable information that can assist with the investigations. The Oxnard Police Department encourages members of the community to contact detectives if they have information regarding the recent violent assaults and to report any suspicious activity to the police.

En noviembre 1, 2017, en aproximadamente 4:25 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a single vehicle collision on Harbor Boulevard south of Wooley Road. En octubre 30^ª, 2017, en 8:15pm, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a call of two shooting victims in the 300 block of Cuesta Del Mar, en Oxnard. Nearby witnesses stated hearing multiple gunshots and seeing two possible suspects driving away from the area in a dark colored sedan. Police were unable to locate the vehicle or the suspects at the time.

En octubre 29, 2017, en aproximadamente 0345 horas, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a commercial burglary in the 800 bloque del Sur Ventura carretera. An alert citizen saw the suspect preparing to break the front window of the gas station mini-market with a bat and provided police dispatchers with a description of the suspect.

Responding officers arrived moments later and detained Jose Cendejas, a 35-year-old Oxnard resident, who was fleeing from the business with three cases of beer. Officers confirmed that a burglary had occurred and used video footage to identify Cendejas as the suspect. Cendejas was booked into Ventura County Jail for the commercial burglary. The property was later returned to the business.

DUI Checkpoint nets five arrests

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted two DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoints on October 28, 2017, entre las horas de 8:00 p.m. y 2:30 a.m. The first checkpoint was located in the southbound lanes of Vineyard Avenue north of St. Mary’s Drive and the second checkpoint was located in the northbound lanes of Oxnard Boulevard north of Second Street. En 10/27/17, en aproximadamente 1150 horas, a member of the Oxnard Police Department Auto Theft Task Force observed Reyes Sagastume in the 400 block of Palm Drive. Sagastume was wanted for violating his probation for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Officers attempted to make contact with Sagastume when he fled into his residence and barricaded himself. Approximately one hour later, Sagastume exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. Reyes Sagastume was booked for the outstanding felony warrant and resisting arrest.

The Oxnard Police Department Auto Theft Task Force was created in 2015 to address stolen vehicle issues within the City of Oxnard. The Department has added additional officers to the Auto Theft Task Force and is conducting enhanced enforcement to combat vehicle theft. As part of this effort, the Oxnard Police Department is utilizing bait cars to increase apprehension of auto theft suspects.

The Oxnard Police Department urges residents to park their vehicles in well-lit areas, lock their vehicles and to use anti-theft devices. It is also recommended to not leave vehicles unattended with the engine running as this is a common method of vehicle theft.
