En 3/23/18 en 7:43 pm officers with the Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit conducted directed enforcement in the area of 1300 Azalea Street and contacted a 16-year-old male subject. Durante el contacto, officers determined that the subject was in possession of concealed handgun. The subject was arrested and booked into Ventura County Juvenile Hall.

DETALLES:

The victim of a shooting, that occurred on March 19, 2018, has died. La víctima, 44-year old Juan Oscar Gutierrez, succumbed to his injury and died at the Ventura County Medical Center on March 20, 2018, poco antes 3 p.m. (Notification to the media was delayed in order to allow the victim’s family time to notify other family members and friends, and time to mourn their loss.)

The shooting occurred in the north alley of the 1000 cuadra de West Gonzales Road. Oxnard police officers and EMS personnel were dispatched to that location reference a person wounded in the alley. EMS arrived on scene and found Gutierrez laying in the alley. EMS transported Gutierrez to the Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition. Oxnard police officers arrived on scene and located evidence of a shooting. Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit and Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene to handle the investigation. The incident is now being investigated as a homicide and the Major Crimes Unit will be leading the investigation. The motive for the shooting is unknown.

En marzo de 22, 2018, en alrededor 12:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to a missing juvenile in the 700 bloque de la avenida de Douglas. The parents became concerned when they did not find him at the residence.

The missing juvenile is Christopher Alan Losoya, 10-edad, Hombre hispano, 4‘8”, 75 lbs., Pelo castaño, ojos cafes, last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with black stripe, blue pants, and red shoes (see attached photo).

The Oxnard Police Department does not suspect any foul play. We are urging the public to immediately contact the Oxnard Police Department if they see him or have any information as to his whereabouts.

En Marzo 21, 2018, Officers and Investigators from the Oxnard Police Departments Special Enforcement Unit (SU), Unidad de Crímenes Violentos (VCU) and K-9 Unit served a search warrant in the 200 bloque de E. Sixth Street, Oxnard. The warrant was in response to recent violent robberies where a gun was used or brandished during the commission of a robbery. El lunes, Marzo 19, 2018, en aproximadamente 11:35 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and emergency medical personnel responded to a traffic collision at the Oxnard Costco, situado en 2001 bulevar de ventura.

When officers arrived they discovered that a white 1989 Buick Regal, driven by an 86 residente de Oxnard años de edad,, drove through the entrance to the business and collided with six pedestrians. The vehicle came to rest inside of the business after striking a large merchandise display rack.

The injuries to the pedestrians ranged from minor to moderate. Two of the injured parties were transported to local hospitals by ambulance and treated for their injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and indicated to officers that he inadvertently placed his car into reverse and accelerated while attempting to park his vehicle in the store’s parking lot. Drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to have been involved. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured. La colisión es todavía bajo investigación.

Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving

Oxnard, CA — St. Patrick’s Day is one of the most popular holidays in the United States. With a plethora of Irish immigrants—and many, many more St. Paddy’s Day well-wishers, the holiday is heavily celebrated by most Americans with friendly pinches, bangers n’ mash, and green beer galore. Tristemente, all this merry-making can lead to dangerous driving conditions as party-goers head home.

En 2016 solo, 60 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes over the St. Paddy’s Day holiday period (6 p.m. Marzo 16 a 5:59 a.m. Marzo 18) a escala nacional. The selfish act of drinking and driving can rip people from their friends and loved ones forever. For this reason, the Oxnard Police Department is working to spread the message about the dangers of drunk driving. Even one drink can be one too many. If you’re heading out for the Irish festivities, plan ahead and remember: Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

During the holiday weekend, the Oxnard Police Department will deploy additional officers on special DUI Saturation Patrols specifically to stop and arrest drivers showing signs of alcohol or drug impairment during the hours of 8:00 p.m. y 3:00 a.m. en adición, en sábado, Marzo 17, 2018, the Oxnard Police Department will be conducting a Driver’s License and Sobriety Checkpoint during the hours of 8:00 p.m. y 3:00 a.m.

En marzo de 15, 2018, en aproximadamente 7:00 a.m., information was received from community members about the location of wanted subject Jonathan Fuentes. This information led officers from both the Oxnard Police Department and the Ventura Police Department to the area of the Motel-6, located on Johnson Drive, en la Ciudad de Ventura. Officers began searching the area and at approximately 9:30 a.m., Fuentes was located in the 6500 Block of Ventura Boulevard and taken into custody without incident.

The victim has been identified as 33-year old Ryan Switzer. Switzer was the brother-in-law of Jonathan Fuentes. Both parties lived in the same residence on Deodar Avenue in the City of Oxnard. Detectives believe that Switzer and Fuentes were involved in a family dispute prior to the shooting. Major Crimes Detectives are on still on scene at the location of the homicide.
