DETALLES: En junio 13, 2019, the Oxnard Police Department and Agents from the California Department of Justice Bureau of Firearms conducted compliance checks throughout the City of Oxnard, in the City of Port Hueneme, and in Ventura County. The compliance checks were focused on people who are prohibited from owning or possessing firearms and have one or more firearms registered to them. People may be prohibited by law for many reasons. These include arrests for certain offenses, criminal convictions for certain offenses, and commitment to a mental health facility for being a danger to themselves or others.
Firearms and ammunition were collected from several locations. The circumstances of each case will be reviewed by Prosecutors for consideration of criminal charges being filed. Each of these cases involved a subject that is prohibited for mental health reasons. The following were collected during the sweep:
- A semi-automatic rifle similar to an AK-47, 7.62×39 calibre
- A semi-automatic .22 LR caliber rifle similar to an M-16 in appearance
- A revolver, .357 magnum caliber
- Acerca de 2,100 rondas de municiones
- Several magazines, including high capacity magazines for the AK type rifle
The Oxnard Police Department will continue to conduct compliance checks of prohibited persons, and subjects on probation or parole living in the City of Oxnard. The Oxnard Police Department is committed to working with the California Department of Justice Bureau of Firearms to keep firearms out of the possession of those prohibited from possessing them. The goal is to remove firearms from prohibited persons with the objective of reducing gun violence in our community.
