SUBJECT:   Prohibited Person in Possession of a Stolen Firearm

SUSPECTS: Jason Henderson, 19-year-old Oxnard resident 

                     Tili Meshach, 18-year-old Oxnard resident

On January 12, 2022 at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a suspected traffic infraction.  Officers conducted records checks of the occupants and learned that the passenger, Jason Henderson, is on felony probation for committing a battery resulting in serious bodily injury.  Henderson is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to his felony conviction.  As officers began to remove Henderson from the vehicle to conduct a probation search, officers observed a firearm on the floorboard of the vehicle.  Officers removed both occupants from the vehicle and recovered the firearm, a loaded semi-automatic handgun. 

Officers conducted a records check on the recovered firearm and learned that it was reported stolen in the city of Oxnard.  Officers arrested Henderson for several firearms related charges.  Officers arrested the driver, Tili Meshach, for allowing the loaded firearm in the vehicle.

Southern California Edison is at the scene of an underground vault explosion on Channel Islands Blvd. at Peninsula Rd.  The blast was reported at 12:04 pm with no reports of injuries or private property damage at this time.  W/B traffic on Channel Islands Blvd. will be affected for the next few hours.

DATE:            Robbery: December 29, 2021, 6:15 P.M.

SUBJECT:   Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested

On December 29, 2021 at approximately 6:15 P.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to an armed robbery that had just occurred at Four Guys Liquor, located at 4815 South Rose Avenue. When officers arrived, they learned the suspect entered the store, brandished a handgun, and demanded the cashier hand over money from the register. The cashier complied and the suspect fled the business with the money.

 

Investigators from the Special Operations Division assumed responsibility for the investigation. On January 4, 2022 at approximately 12:50 P.M., officers observed a suspect spray painting gang graffiti on a wall in the area of Bard Road and Terrace Avenue. They detained the suspect, who was identified as 28-year-old Oxnard resident Thomas Eaves. While speaking with Eaves, officers recognized him as a possible suspect in the above robbery. Investigators responded to the scene and confirmed he was the suspect in the robbery. He was arrested for armed robbery. He was later booked into the Ventura County Jail on those charges. SUBJECT:     Prohibited Person / Documented Gang Member Arrested for Firearm and Controlled Substances

SUSPECTS:  Israel Juarez, 19-year-old Oxnard resident

On December 30, 2021 at approximately 9:06 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) were conducting uniformed gang enforcement in South Oxnard. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a suspected traffic infraction at Saviers Rd. and Channel Islands Blvd.  The driver, later identified as Misael Perez (19yrs), ultimately pulled over at the intersection of Bryce Canyon and Saviers Rd.  Two additional subjects, Israel Juarez (19yrs) and Joel Garcia (19yrs), were also contacted in the vehicle.  Juarez is a known criminal street gang member within the City of Oxnard, is currently on probation with court ordered search terms for a prior firearms possession conviction and is a prohibited person from the possession of firearms and ammunition.  Perez is also a known criminal street gang member within the City of Oxnard and is currently on probation for felony possession of a controlled substance for sale.

Officers removed the occupants and conducted a probation search of the vehicle.  Officers located a loaded 9-millimeter Ruger EC9s semi-automatic handgun concealed in the glove compartment of the vehicle.  Officers arrested Juarez for felony firearms possession and transported him to the Oxnard Police Department.  Officers conducted a booking search of Juarez and located methamphetamine and Xanax pills concealed on his person.  Juarez was booked for felony firearm and narcotics related charges.

SUBJECT:   Shooting Incident

On December 24, 2021 at approximately 2:57 P.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a shooting victim in the parking structure of Target, located at 2850 North Oxnard Boulevard. When officers arrived, they located the victim, a 31-year-old male Oxnard resident, On Danvers River Street, north of the parking structure. The victim was suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.  

 

Investigators from the Special Operations Division responded to assist with the investigation. Preliminary information indicates the victim was riding in a vehicle that was driving through the parking structure. At one point, they encountered the suspects, who were parked in the parking structure, and a confrontation began. At one point, one of the involved suspects produced a firearm and began firing at the victim, striking him. The victim vehicle fled the parking structure and stopped on Danvers River Street to wait for medical attention. No further information is available at this time. On December 24, 2021, at about 11:37 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting victim in the 2100 block of Devonshire Drive. Officers contacted a 35-year-old adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim reported he was a passenger in a vehicle traveling near the intersection of Gonzales Road and H Street when he heard gunfire and realized he was shot in the leg. They continued driving to the area of Devonshire Drive before they reported the incident. The male victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

While officers were on scene investigating the crime, an adult female called and reported that someone shot at her vehicle at the same intersection. The female victim reported she was driving near the same intersection and observed an unknown individual in the roadway. The victim honked the horn. As she continued to drive S/B on H Street, she observed the suspect shooting at her vehicle. The female drove a short distance further, to a safe location, before stopping and reporting the incident. Investigating officers located evidence of bullet strikes on both victim vehicles. Fortunately, the female victim was not struck by gunfire.  It is believed that both shootings occurred during a nearly simultaneous incident. There is no further information at this point.

Officers are on the scene of a shooting that happened today at Target, 2850 N. Oxnard Blvd, at around 2:57 p.m.  Preliminary information indicates there was a confrontation between occupants in two separate vehicles before the shooting occurred. The adult male victim was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. A crime scene is cordoned off in the parking lot. Motorists and shoppers can expect some delays and minor detours in the area. Investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit are responding to conduct the investigation. There is no further information to add at this point. A press release with further information will be forthcoming later this evening.

The fourth annual “Paak House In the Park” event will take place in the city of Oxnard at Oxnard College Park on December 22, 2021. While the first three events were held in Los Angeles, Brandon Anderson (Anderson Paak) has decided to bring this event to his hometown. The community-organized event will have live music, delicious food, giveaways, family activities, and more. The Brandon Anderson Foundation is an organization formed around the belief that everyone deserves an opportunity to pursue their dreams through uplifting, engaging, and supporting others.

 

The Oxnard Police Department will be handling traffic control to expedite the flow of traffic surrounding the event site. Traffic delays should be expected beginning at 2:00 p.m. The following streets may experience an increased amount of traffic:

 

  • Rose Avenue between Channel Islands Boulevard and Bard Road
  • Channel Islands Boulevard between Albany and SR-1
  • Bard Road between Pleasant Valley Road and Rose Avenue

 

Additionally, it is planned to block off all northbound vehicle traffic on Rose Avenue at Gary Drive.

 

These traffic flow modifications are taking place to assist in relieving the traffic congestion from this event in a timely and orderly fashion, with caution for pedestrians.

SUBJECT:   Barricaded Wanted Subject Arrested for Assault with a Deadly weapon and Felony Warrants

On December 21, 2021 at approximately 4:45 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) observed Diego Cruz (27yrs) on foot in the 800 block of Trinidad Way.  Cruz was known to have several felony arrest warrants for robbery and dissuading a witness by force, and to have current wants by the Oxnard Police Department for assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence and vandalism.  When officers attempted to contact Cruz, he fled on foot into his residence at the 800 block of Trinidad Way.  When Cruz fled into the residence, he locked the doors to the residence and barricaded inside.

Officers set a perimeter around the residence, and the Oxnard Police Department SWAT team was called to the scene.  After several hours of announcements and attempting to have Cruz exit his home, chemical agents were introduced into the residence.  Cruz attempted to squeeze out of a vent in the attic of the residence, but was confronted by officers.  Cruz was then taken into custody for his warrants, current charges and resisting arrest without further incident.
