An Oxnard mother was arrested for suspicion of felony drunk driving and felony child endangerment by Oxnard police following an early-morning crash that injured her 5-year-old daughter.
Oxnard police received a call of a collision at Harbor Freight Tools on E. Third Street at 2:49 a.m. The crash was witnessed by security personnel on duty at the business.
Witnesses observed the vehicle driven by Salas crash through a closed driveway gate leading to the business. The vehicle continued through the parking lot then crashed into a concrete median. Oxnard police and fire personnel responded to the scene and detained Salas who had exited the car with her daughter, Isabella Chavez. Two open containers of alcohol were found on the floorboard of the car.
As of this writing, Salas is still being treated at a local hospital for head injuries sustained in the crash. Chavez received minor injuries in the crash and was released to her father.
Upon release from the hospital, Salas will face charges of felony drunk driving and felony child endangerment. Once booked in the Ventura County Jail, bail will be set at $50,000. An investigation is continuing.
