INCIDENT:	Sobriety and Driver’s License Checkpoint Results

DETAILS:

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Sunday, June 26, 2011, from 6:00 P.M. to 11:30 P.M.

The checkpoint was conducted in the northbound lanes of Oxnard Boulevard @ Second Street.

Officers screened 940 motorists who passed through the checkpoint and conducted three DUI investigations with drivers who had been drinking alcohol. There were no DUI arrests were made as the drivers were found to have alcohol levels below the legal limit of .08.

Citations were issued to 25 drivers for various drivers’ license violations at the checkpoint. Seventeen drivers were issued citations for driving without a valid driver’s license and one driver was cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license. Three vehicles were towed from the checkpoint.

In an effort to show the consequences of driving while intoxicated, the M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) crashed car trailer was on display during the checkpoint. The trailer contained a vehicle that was involved in an alcohol-related fatal crash in 2008 in the City of Santa Monica. The driver of that vehicle died as a result of the collision and was found to have a blood alcohol level over three times the legal limit of .08.

The Oxnard Police Department will conduct several more DUI enforcement operations this year. These DUI operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer. We also remind people that if they see an impaired driver to dial 911. These DUI enforcement operations are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Administration.

On Saturday, February 4, 2012 at about 1 p.m., the Oxnard Police Department received information from a concerned citizen that three suspicious subjects were attempting to sell possible stolen merchandise in the area of A Street and Palm Drive in Oxnard.
 
Oxnard police officers responded and saw a vehicle fitting the description fleeing the area. The car was occupied by three men. After an investigation, it was confirmed that all three men were trying to sell stolen property which belonged to California State University, Channel Islands.
 
During a lengthy investigation, more than $10,000 of stolen merchandise was recovered. Items include four computers, power tools, various commercial landscaping implements, and miscellaneous items taken over the last four years.
 
The specific details provided by the caller assisted police in making this arrest. This is a good reminder for any concerned citizen to call the police to report any suspicious activity.
 
All three suspects were charged with possession of stolen property and conspiracy. Carmona also faces charges of grand theft and burglary. Bail for Rosendo was set at $20,000; Carmona and Meza’s bail was set at $30,000 each. The investigation is continuing.

On June 26, 2011 at approximately 8:02 PM, officers responded to a call of shots being fired in the area of Hemlock St. and Patterson Rd. When officers arrived they were unable to locate anyone. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that occupants in an unknown type vehicle shot at another occupied vehicle at the intersection.

Officers were able to locate the victims and their vehicle. The victims stated that they were driving home when another vehicle drove next to them. The occupants started flashing gang signs and yelled out a local Oxnard gang. One of the occupants of that vehicle fired several shots at the victims, striking their vehicle several times. The victims fled the scene and went home to report the incident to police. None of the victims were injured during the incident and don’t appear to have any gang ties.

On February 1, 2012, investigators from the Oxnard Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit obtained information that Roy Jimenez had committed the bank robbery at Citibank, located at 2900 Saviers Road, on January 25, 2012.
 
On February 2, 2012, at about 11:40 a.m., investigators contacted Jimenez at his residence in the 700 block of west Pleasant Valley Road.  He was arrested and taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Ventura County Jail for bank robbery. Because this is still an active investigation, no further details will be released until the conclusion of the investigation.

The suspect approached the teller window and handed him a note that demanded money and stated he was armed. The teller handed an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect.  The suspect fled the bank in a southern direction. The suspect possibly fled in a dark “box” shaped vehicle.     
 
Oxnard police officers and investigators responded and interviewed several witnesses.  FBI agents also assisted in the investigation. Investigators are currently working several leads.

DETAILS:

On 06-24-2011 Officers observed Juan Pina as he attempted to steal over 100 gallons of gasoline. Pina was using an electric pump to siphon gasoline from the underground storage tanks into a large water storage container inside of his vehicle. There have been at least five similar thefts from the same location over the last 30 days. The Oxnard Fire Department is currently on scene handling the vehicle as a Haz-Mat situation. The property of Wooley Gas is the only area affected while the Haz-Mat team continues their investigation.

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Division conducted two sobriety and driver’s license checkpoints on January 28, 2012, from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.   
 
The first checkpoint was conducted in the westbound lanes of Channel Islands Blvd at “M” St. The second checkpoint was conducted in the southbound lanes of Harbor Boulevard at Fifth Street.
 
Officers screened 594 motorists who passed through the checkpoints. Officers conducted five DUI investigations that lead to the arrest of two drivers for DUI.  
 
Seventeen drivers were issued citations for various drivers’ license violations. Fivevehicles were towed.  Thirteen drivers were issued citations for driving without a valid driver’s license and four drivers were cited for driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license.
 
The Oxnard PD will continue to conduct DUI enforcement operations this year. These DUI operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer. We also remind you that if you see an impaired driver – dial 911.

On 6-23-2011 in the early morning hours two separate armed robberies had occurred. The first one was in the 1500 Block of Graves Avenue. The victim was approached from behind and the suspect demanded all of their property. The suspect was possibly in possession of a shotgun. The second robbery occurred in the 1900 Block of North “C” street. In this incident the suspect was also possibly in possession of a shotgun.

During the investigation the suspect descriptions were similar. It is unknown if they were committed by the same suspect. The first robbery was reported shortly after the incident however the second robbery victim waited a significant amount of time before reporting the crime.

The public is reminded to always be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious behavior or activities to the police as soon as possible. Delays in reporting incidents greatly reduce the chances that a suspect will be located fleeing the scene.

DETAILS:

On 6/22/11 at 10:00pm, an Oxnard resident was driving home and saw two subjects, Raymond Osuna and a 17 yr old male, walking at 1100 block of Patricia St. The resident saw Osuna walking on the sidewalk while the juvenile was walking on the street. Osuna was acting as a look-out while the juvenile was pulling on the door handles of at least 6 parked vehicles. The subjects found an unlocked vehicle. The juvenile reached into the vehicle, took a woman’s purse and both suspects fled prior to police arriving.

The resident continued to search the surrounding residential area and found the subjects. The police were called and the two subjects were detained in the area of Ventura Road and Devonshire Dr. The witness positively identified both subjects during an in-field show-up. Both Osuna and the juvenile were arrested for 182 PC Conspiracy (felony) and 484 PC Petty Theft (misdemeanor).

On January 20, 2012 a man reported to the Oxnard Police that he was the victim of a home invasion robbery. The victim said the crime occurred at about 10 a.m. at his home on El Cajon Way. When he answered a knock at his front door, two Hispanic males threatened him with a handgun; forcing him inside the house. The two suspects tied the victim’s arms and legs and covered his head with a piece of clothing so he could not see.  
 
The victim said the two suspects ransacked his home; taking several electronic items and cash. The suspects left through the front door but the victim doesn’t know which way they went. No suspect vehicle was observed. The victim was not injured.
