On March 21, 2012, at about 11:04 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at Seventh Street west of “C” Street. Once on scene, officers found that an Isuzu, mini pick-up truck, driven by Larry Fryar, 65, struck a two-year-old boy (name withheld). The boy was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the pick-up was traveling eastbound on Seventh Street when the toddler suddenly ran into the street and into the path of the pick-up. The driver, Fryar, was unable to stop and struck the boy.
There are no indications that Fryar was traveling at an unsafe speed nor are there indications that alcohol and/or drugs were a factor.
If anyone has information about this collision please contact Senior Officer Maria Pena at (805) 385-7750.
The investigation is continuing.
