Oxnard Police Department Targets Impaired Drivers with DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint
 
Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over
 
Oxnard, CA – Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Friday, May 25th, at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public. 
 
Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, court probation and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
 
All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. “Over the course of the past year, DUI collisions have claimed 1 life and resulted in 187 wrecks injuring 91 of our friends and neighbors in Oxnard,” said Senior Officer Brown.
 
This DUI/Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies and officers will be checking drivers for proper licensing.   A major component of these checkpoints is the deterrent effect it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired and bring about more awareness, encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers. 
 
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.
 
Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On November 16, 2011 at about 7:30 p.m., detectives from the Oxnard Police Department Family Protection and Sexual Assault Unit arrested Port Hueneme resident Raymond Aguilar Hernandez Jr., (DOB 6/18/1964), for violation of California Penal Code
Section 288.3(a), child luring and enticing. Hernandez is an employee of Oxnard Union High School District as a campus supervisor. Campus supervisors are part-time, non-teacher employees of the district who monitor student safety in areas outside of classrooms on high school campuses. 
 
The investigation began on November 10 when several students reported to school officials that they received verbal communication and text messages of a sexual nature from Hernandez.  School administrators immediately notified the Oxnard Police Department and a criminal investigation began. 
 
Hernandez was also employed as a night custodian with the Oxnard Elementary School District at Haydock Junior High School. At this point in the investigation, we do not believe any students at the junior high school were victimized by Hernandez.
 
Hernandez posted bail and is scheduled for arraignment in Ventura County Superior Court on December 2, 2011.

(Oxnard, CA) On May 30, 2012 at 8:10 p.m., officers from the Oxnard PD responded to a report of shots fired in front of the trailer park located at 1853 Ives Avenue. Upon officers arrival they located evidence of a shooting and located the suspect in a nearby trailer. Officers were unable to locate any victims.
 
The suspect, Robert Henry, 26, has a prior felony arrest that made it illegal for him to possess weapons. Officers located a weapon and ammunition at Henry’s trailer that matched evidence at the scene.
 
The suspect was arrested for discharging a weapon in public, felon in possession of a firearm, and under the influence of a controlled substance.

(Oxnard, CA) The Oxnard Police Department will conduct a multi-location sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Friday, November 18, 2011, from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. The checkpoint will be held within the city of Oxnard and is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
 
The Oxnard Police Department is committed to improving traffic safety and reducing the number of alcohol-related crashes to make our roadways and community safer. We will continue to conduct DUI checkpoints, DUI saturation patrols, and DUI warrant operations this year.     
 How to Report a Drunk Driver

• Call 911 and tell the dispatcher you wish to report a suspected drunk driver.  **You do not have to give your name.**

• Give a complete description of the vehicle, such as make, model, color and license plate number.
• Give the exact location of the vehicle, including the name of the road, cross streets and the direction they’re traveling.
• Describe the manner in which the vehicle is being driven.
• Do not try to stop the car or detain the driver; leave that to a law enforcement officer.

As a reminder, the fines, fees and attorney costs associated with a first time DUI conviction in Ventura County can exceed $10,000.  Driver’s license suspension and an increase in vehicle insurance premiums are also potential consequences.

(Oxnard, CA) On Saturday June 2, 2012, at 6:36 a.m., a 56-year old female was jogging near Oxnard State Beach Park. She was approached from behind by a male who reached around her and fondled her breast. The victim screamed and the suspect walked away. He was last seen walking northbound on the frontage road of Harbor Blvd.

DETAILS:

On November 14, 2011 at about 8 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing victim in the 5200 block of Saviers Road. Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old victim with several stab wounds. The victim was transported to VCMC where he received medical treatment. His injuries are not life threatening. The victim’s name is not releasable because he is a juvenile.
 
The suspects were described as four males in a full-size white four-door sedan with window tint. The suspect who stabbed the victim was described as a Hispanic male about 19 years old, 5'9" tall, 160 lbs. and clean shaven. He was wearing a black hat, blue sweatshirt, blue shorts and long white socks. No descriptions of the other three suspects were available.

On Sunday June 3, 2012, at 10:01 p.m., Oxnard PD officers responded to a 9-1-1 call of a possible shooting victim in the east alley of Samuel Avenue near La Canada Ave.  When they arrived they located the victim, who had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center where lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the victim was pronounced dead at 10:44 p.m.   

At the time of this news release the motive for this crime has not been determined, and detectives are conducting an exhaustive search for witnesses and evidence in regards to this crime.

DETAILS:
On November 9, 2011 at about 11:30 p.m. Oxnard Police officers were dispatched to the Circle K store located at 1954 North Ventura Road, regarding a robbery with a handgun that had just occurred. The suspects were last seen running north bound towards Azalea Street. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspects.
 
About 40 minutes later, Oxnard Police officers were dispatched to the 7-Eleven store located on East Channel Islands Blvd. regarding a second armed robbery where the description of the suspects was similar to the robbery on North Ventura Road. The suspects were last seen north bound on El Dorado Avenue.
 
On November 10, 2011 at about 1:02 a.m., officers were dispatched to the rear of the 7-Eleven store located at Fifth St. and Ventura Rd. regarding suspicious people casing the business. Officers contacted three people in a vehicle to the rear of the store. Suspect #2 tried to run away but was apprehended a short distance away. All three suspects were identified as taking part in the two previous robberies. It appears that the three suspects were attempting a third robbery but were taken into custody prior to completing the robbery.
 
None of the victims was injured during either robbery and the investigation is ongoing.

DETAILS:
On November 3, 2011 at about 3:15 p.m. officers with the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit arrested Oxnard gang member Antonio Medina
(DOB 2/5/92). Medina was seen throwing a handgun over a fence and into a yard as officers approached. The officers determined that the gun was loaded. In California, it is illegal for a felon to possess a handgun.
 
Medina had been released from Ventura County Jail hours earlier after being transferred there from California State Prison for a gun related conviction.
 
Medina was booked on several felony violations. Because Medina is on parole, he is not eligible for bail.
