DETAILS:

(OXNARD, Calif) – On February 5, 2014, at 11:00 A.M., investigators with the Oxnard Police Department’s Family Protection Unit went to Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura to speak with a victim of domestic violence. The victim had injuries and she told investigators that her estranged husband, Joshua Aguilar had beat her and knocked her unconscious in front of their two small children and then sexually assaulted her.

Investigators arrested Joshua Aguilar, 27 from Oxnard on felony sexual assault charges, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse, threatening with intent to terrorize, false imprisonment, and wilful cruelty to a child. He is being held in Ventura County Jail with bail set at $500,000. Aguilar had previously been convicted on a domestic violence charge and served time in prison.

DETAILS:
On February 21, 2014, at about 6:17 P.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the 500 block of East Channel Islands Boulevard in reference to an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian, Adalberto Romero Deloa, was crossing Channel Islands Boulevard near Circle Drive when he was struck by a light-colored truck that was traveling eastbound on Channel Islands Boulevard. The impact caused pedestrian Deloa to be thrown several feet and land in the roadway. According to witnesses, a second vehicle, described only as a light-colored sedan, also struck pedestrian Deloa while he was lying in the roadway. Both vehicles fled the scene of the collision without rendering aid or notifying emergency personnel.

Pedestrian Deloa was transported from the scene to the Ventura County Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery for his injuries. He is currently listed in critical condition.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision.

DETAILS: On 3/5/14, at approximately 1800 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a residential burglary in the 2200 block of Natalie Place. With the combined efforts of the victim and Oxnard Police officers, it was determined who was in possession of the stolen property. When police made contact with the suspects, theyfled in their vehicle at a high rate of speed, through a crowded parking lot. Stolen property was thrown from the vehicle as they fled. Both suspects were located at the residence, and a subsequent probation search was conducted. Additional stolen property was recovered inside a bedroom.

The driver was identified as Richard Llamas and the passenger was a male juvenile. Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy. Llamas was additionally charged with reckless driving, delaying or obstructing an officer, and driving on a suspended license. Llamas was booked into Ventura County Main Jail. The male juvenile was additionally charged with possession of stolen property, and was lodged into Ventura County Juvenile Hall. The property was returned to the victims.

On 02/21/14 at approximately 2209 hours, officers were dispatched to the area of Courtland Street and Canterbury Way regarding shots being heard in the area. When officers and EMS personnel arrived they located a male subject that was shot. The male subject died as a result of his injuries.

The subject was a 26 year old Oxnard resident. His name is being withheld until his family is notified. This is Oxnard’s 2nd homicide of the year. The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspect(s) in homicide cases.

On April 22^th, 2014, at about 12:00 A.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the intersection of Pleasant Valley and Saviers roads in reference to a hit and run injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a white Toyota Corolla was travelling northbound on Saviers Road as the pedestrian was crossing Pleasant Valley Road. The vehicle struck the pedestrian causing the pedestrian to be thrown several feet and land in the roadway. The suspect vehicle was last seen travelling northbound on Saviers Road.

The pedestrian was transported from the scene to the Ventura County Medical Center where he is currently listed in serious but stable condition.

On February 25, 2014, at approximately 1400 hrs, members of the Oxnard Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) were working enhanced gang enforcement throughout the city due to a series of violent incidents. SEU Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of North Oxnard Blvd. and made contact with a passenger who initially provided a false name. During further investigation, the subject’s true name was found to be Jimmy Ornelas, a documented Los Angeles County gang member. It was also determined that Ornelas had an outstanding felony warrant. Ornelas was subsequently arrested for the warrant.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun was recovered from underneath a child safety seat. There were no children in the vehicle. Ornelas was later booked for his felony warrant, possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, and felon in possesion of a firearm.

On 05-01-14, at 1709 Hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a 911 call of fight involving a firearm in the 1300 block of Commercial Ave. Officers arrived on scene and learned this was a neighbor dispute where the suspect, Hugo Cervantes, had brandished a firearm towards the victim. During the incident, Cervantes threatened to kill the victim.

Officers contacted Cervantes and arrested him for 417(a)(2) PC (brandishing a deadly weapon) and 422 PC (criminal threats). The firearm allegedly used during the incident was also located at the scene and seized.

On 5-12-14, at 1028 hours, officers and EMS personnel responded to the intersection of “A” Street and Deodar Avenue reference an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and bicylist.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the silver Lexus RX350 driven by Magsie Polito was traveling westbound on Deodar Avenue from Oxnard Boulevard. As the vehicle crossed “A” Street it collided with the male bicyclist. The male was ejected from the bicycle.

Responding EMS personnel attempted to resuscitate the bicyclist but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Excessive speed was not a factor in this collision.

On June 27, 2014, at approximately 1825 hours, officers responded to a stabbing victim in the area of the 2100 block of North Ventura Road. Upon arrival they found the victim suffering from stab wounds to the abdomen and lower body. The victim was rushed to Ventura County Medical Center where he underwent surgery. The victim is currently listed in stable condition.

The suspect was described as a male subject who fled the area on foot.

An investigation is ongoing.

On Sunday, June 29^th, the Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will deploy additional officers who will conduct DUI enforcement during and after the scheduled World Cup soccer games.

The Oxnard Police Department wants fans to enjoy the games but think responsibly to avoid driving while impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.

Nationally in 2012, alcohol-impaired driving crashes took 10,322 lives. Californians witnessed 802 deaths in DUI crashes on their streets and highways. These crashes were 31 percent more likely to occur on weekends than on weekdays.

As a reminder, the fees and fines for a DUI conviction can be $10,000 or more. It can also lead to a suspended driver’s license and increased vehicle insurance premiums.

This added enforcement will be funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
