DETAILS:

On 12-06-09 at 9:15 p.m., Oxnard police received a call of a possible assault that occurred at the shopping center at Hemlock and Victoria. Officers located evidence of the crime in front of the abandoned grocery store in the 3700 block of West Hemlock Street.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of minor stab wounds to the lower body.

The motive for this crime is unclear. No suspect information was provided by the victim.

DETAILS:
At approximately 5:00 P.M. on Monday, October 22, 2012, a rally and march was held with regards to the National Day of Action Against Police Brutality. The event began at Del Sol Park, and participants marched to Oxnard’s Central Business District. The crowd, estimated at approximately 400, marched to the Oxnard Police Department’s headquarters building.

The Oxnard Police Department’s intent for this event was to allow those in attendance to peacefully exercise their right to free speech and assembly. The Oxnard Police Department made a number of efforts to communicate with the event organizers, but they did not respond.

Overall, the group was generally peaceful. However, the group did take over street intersections and obstructed traffic. A few persons from within the group were seen jumping on at least two vehicles in the downtown area. Some persons were observed tagging graffiti on public property, including trees, a bus stop, and the gazebo at Plaza Park. The Veteran’s Memorial in Plaza Park was also vandalized. A number of participants challenged passersby and taunted officers who were attempting to control traffic. Video evidence will be reviewed for potential arrests of those persons engaging in criminal activity.

DETAILS:

On 8-31-12, at about 1700 hours, two black males were observed driving up in a silver Scion XB or Kia Soul and stopping at the business located at 2221 Sturgis Rd. The store was just closing when these subjects entered. One suspect produced a handgun and attempted to obtain money from the clerks. One of the clerks was shot. The suspects fled in the suspect vehicle without taking any property.

The clerk was rushed to Ventura County Medical Center and listed in stable condition.

DETAILS:
On 8/14/12, at about 12:43 pm, a passing motorist notified the Oxnard Police Department that there was a man with a gun, in the street, in the 300 block of South H Street. Officers arrived on scene within one minute and saw the suspect pointing a gun to his head. The suspect ran from the officers and into a nearby residence. The officers heard a gunshot and didn’t know if the suspect shot himself or someone else.

The suspect quickly came back within view and confronted the officers. The suspect held a gun to his head and challenged the officers to shoot him. The suspect challenged the officers and pointed a firearm at them in a threatening manner. The officers fired at the suspect, striking him. He was treated by emergency medical personnel and transported to a local hospital where he died.

No officers or members of the public were injured. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

As is standard procedure for officer-involved-shootings, the officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.

DETAILS: On 3-22-13, at about 1:15 PM, Oxnard police officers were flagged down by a person who said that there was a man nearby who had brandished a sword at her. The victim told officers that the man had actually swung the sword in her direction, and that the assault had occurred on the corner of Channel Islands Blvd and K St. The officers responded to this location and located King Canales in the front yard of a residence. Canales was in possession of two swords and was swinging them towards traffic on Channel Islands Blvd. One sword was approximately 2 feet long, and the second was 3 feet long. As the officers approached, Canales threw the swords onto the front yard and stepped onto the drive way. Canales was standing approximately 20-25 feet from the closest sword, which was lying on the grass. Canales refused to obey the officer’s commands to approach them. Canales also argued with the officers, and told them that he was in possession of additional knives on his person. Additional officers responded to assist.

Officers negotiated with Canales for about 7 minutes. During the entire time, Canales was argumentative with officers and refused their orders. Canales was then taken into custody without further incident. He was found to be in possession of two additional illegal gravity knives in his pockets. In a vehicle parked nearby, there was also a realistic looking replica firearm.

Canales was arrested for weapons charges and booked into Ventura County Jail.

DETAILS:

On April 26^th, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. a person called the Oxnard Police Department’s communication center and reported that a male subject had shot himself in the 700 block of Forest Park Blvd., Oxnard. The caller was not local. Officers responded to the area and attempted to make contact with the subject in his residence at the location.

After several minutes officers were able to speak with Glenn Massaro on the phone. He stated he had shot himself in the face in an apparent suicide attempt. He also told the officers he had discarded his weapon and requested medical treatment. Officers made contact with Massaro and ensured the scene was safe for EMS personnel to respond. No one else was located in the residence with Massaro. He received emergency medical treatment at the scene and was transported to VCMC for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

The scene was cleared at 5:45 p.m.

DETAILS:
On 6/4/2013 at about 12:30AM, the Oxnard Police Department responded to the American Legion in the 2600 Block of Wagon Wheel Road regarding four persons on the roof, possibly trying to gain entry. When officers arrived, they made contact with the two male subjects outside of the business. The two females were eventually located hiding inside the business. Upon further investigation, all four subjects were arrested for burglary.

Suspects Martinez, Lowe, and Clark were also arrested for conspiracy to commit burglary. In addition, Lowe was also arrested for possession of stolen property.

Albert Martinezwas on the Post Release Offender (PRO) program. The PRO Program released non-violent, non-sexual, and non-serious offenders from custody pursuant to Assembly Bill 109.

DETAILS:
On April 11, 2014, at about 1705 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to 2815 Saviers Road reference a call of an armed robbery which had just occurred. An unknown race male subject wearing a black ski mask, black sweater, and blue jeans entered the Fiesta Insurance business located at 2825 Saviers Road in the city of Oxnard. The suspect pointed a silver-colored handgun and demanded property from the business. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of property and fled southbound from the business on foot. The suspect was possibly seen entering a green unknown make automobile on the south side of Channel Islands Blvd.

On 3/28/14 at approximately 2219 hours, Officers responded to a shooting victim in the area of Courtland Street and Clara Street. Officers located a 15 year old Hispanic male with a gunshot wound to his back. The victim was rushed to the Ventura County Medical Center and is listed in serious condition but stable.

On the above date/time, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the 2300 Block of Lassen Street regarding a call of shots fired, and a fight. Once on scene, officers located a victim of a shooting inside of a residence. The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult, tall, ‘stocky’ building, wearing a black jacket and black pants. There was no further description of the suspect.
