DETAILS:
On 12/28/13, at approximately 1240 hours, Oscar Valles called the police department and stated that he had heard that police were looking for him and he wanted to turn himself in. Valles arrived at the police department and met investigators. Valles was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Ventura County Jail for murder.

Valles’ arrest stemmed from the stabbing death of a 24 year old Oxnard resident. The stabbing occurred in the 2000 block of North Oxnard Blvd. The victim’s name is being withheld until his family is notified. DETAILS:

On 1-12-14, at 1100 hours, officers contacted several subjects in the 100 Block of Glenwood Drive. Officers learned two of these subjects were known gang members.

Another subject, a 17-year old Oxnard resident, was found to be concealing a semi-automatic handgun on his person. This juvenile was arrested and then booked into Ventura County Juvenile Hall for the weapons violation. The handgun was stolen, so the juvenile was charged with possession of stolen property as well.

DETAILS:
On 01/27/14 at 0813 hours a witness reported a burglary in progress at a residence in the 1800 Block of Bearden Court. Officers responded to the area and located two subjects, one carrying a television. One of the subjects fled upon seeing the officer and was able to escape. The other subject, Ivan Cordoba, was holding the television which was later identified as stolen from another nearby residence. Cordoba was arrested for residential burglary.

Information obtained from another witness led to the identification of the second subject, a 16-year-old male. He was arrested later in the day for burglary.

Several alert neighbors who observed suspicious behavior and reported it to police were critical in the apprehension of the two suspects. There were additional burglaries in the area; it is believed that these suspects were responsible for at least two.

DETAILS:
On February 1, 2014, at about 10:48 A.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the train tracks near Fifth Street and Buena Vista Road in reference to a subject being struck by a moving train. The victim was located and transported to Ventura County Medical Center reference his injuries. He later died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was walking westbound adjacent to the railroad tracks when he was struck by the moving train. Witnesses at the scene heard the whistle of the train prior to impact with the pedestrian.

The name of the deceased victim is being withheld pending notification of his family.

DETAILS: On 02-13-14, at approximately 0436 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a burglary in progress in the 1100 block of Pisco Lane. A neighbor observed a suspect enter the rear yard of the residence and called the police. The suspect unsuccessfully attempted entry by prying windows and doors. Officers arrived, set a perimeter, and apprehended the suspect, Rigoverto Zamora (28 years), as he attempted to flee.

The Oxnard Police Department encourages its residents to call the police when they see suspicious activity. This is an excellent example of a neighbor who saw suspicious activity, called the police, and provided the appropriate information.

On February 22, 2014, at about 2032 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the 400 block of N. Garfield Avenue to contact victims who were robbed and carjacked while they were sitting in a vehicle at the rear of 535 Cooper Road. The victims told the officers that they were sitting in a vehicle, a blue 2004, Chevy Malibu license plate # 4RNG587, at the rear of the business when they were confronted by three male suspects. The suspects ordered them out of the car and demanded cash. All three victims gave the suspects cash totaling $520. One of the suspects held a knife to the car owner and demanded his keys. Once given the keys, the suspects got into the victim’s car and fled.

The suspects were described as three (3) Hispanic males, 20-30 years, one thin build, one medium build, and one heavy build, wearing grey or light colored hoodies.

There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

On 2/25/14, at approximately 1635 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of North Hayes Avenue regarding a carjacking that had just occurred. Two victims told officers that several Hispanic males attacked them by kicking and punching them. During the assault, one of the victims fell to the ground. The suspects rummaged through his pockets and removed his car keys. The other victim said one of the suspects brandished a knife at him and demanded his money and wallet. The suspects then fled the area with the victim’s vehicle and property.

While officers were investigating the carjacking crime, several 911 calls were received of a traffic collision in the 1600 block of Universe Circle. The vehicle involved in the collision matched the description of the carjacked vehicle.

Officers from the Oxnard Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) arrived at the scene of the vehicle collision and observed several subjects fleeing on foot. Four subjects were apprehended by police and positively identified by witnesses and the victims as the suspects that committed the carjacking. The suspects were identified as 21-year old Eric Dominguez (Transient), 21-year old Mario Perez of Oxnard, 18-year old Hernan Hernandez of Oxnard, and a 16-year old juvenile of Oxnard (name withheld due to age). Eric Dominguez is a documented Colonia Chiques gang member and has been served with the Colonia Chiques gang injunction.

All four suspects were arrested for carjacking with the special allegation that the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang.

The 16-year old juvenile is one of two suspects in a foiled robbery attempt that took place on 2/23/14 at 1930 hours. In that incident, the juvenile along with an adult attempted to rob a patron at gunpoint inside the Guadalajara Café, located at 166 North Hayes Avenue in Oxnard. The adult suspect was arrested and charged with robbery. The juvenile is now facing robbery charges for his role in the incident at the Guadalajara Café.

The Oxnard Police Department will continue to investigate both these cases in hopes of identifying other individuals that might be involved in these crimes.

On 03/14/2014 at approximately 5:44 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a report of a robbery at the Ramada Inn. Officers contacted the clerk who confirmed the suspect forced his way into the business through a side door. The suspect threatened the clerk as a way to force the clerk to open the safe. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and left the business.

The suspect was described as a white male adult, 5’-9”, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with dark colored jeans.

A suspicious device was found in the alley at 1041 N. A Street. The item located was found to be a grenade that was in a plastic bag. Approximately 15 people were evacuated for safety concerns. No one was injured during the evacuation.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad responded to assist with the investigation. The grenade was found to be inert. The Bomb Squad took possession of the grenade and later destroyed it.

At 0557 hours, officers responded to the 3800 Block of Saviers Road regarding a stolen vehicle. Officers learned a mother had left a black 2003 Ford Mustang 2-door, 6PRN729, running while she went to go get a co-worker from inside a nearby apartment. The mother’s four-year old daughter was left in the unlocked vehicle. Seconds later, the mother “heard tires squealing.” When she went outside, her daughter was about 150 yards down the street and walking back. The child had not been harmed. The Ford Mustang was gone.

Officers are looking for the stolen vehicle and a “young male” with a heavy build. The charges are stolen vehicle (10851 CVC) and kidnap (207 PC).

The mother was cited for child endangerment (273(a)(b) PC).

The Oxnard Police Department emphasizes children should never be left unattended in a motor vehicle. And, about 25% of vehicles stolen in Oxnard have keys left in them. Vehicles should be locked and all keys accounted for.

An investigation is continuing.
