On January 23, 2014, at about 6:29 A.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to intersection of Rice Avenue and Camino Del Sol in reference to an injury traffic collision involving a motorcyclist.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcycle, driven by Thomas James Hayzlett Jr., was traveling northbound on Rice Avenue approaching Camino Del Sol. According to witnesses, a white van was traveling southbound on Rice Avenue and made a left turn at Camino Del Sol as the motorcyclist entered the intersection. Witnesses reported that a collision between the van and the motorcycle caused Hayzlett to be ejected from the motorcycle. A second vehicle, described only as a dark colored compact vehicle, was reported to have struck Hayzlett after he was lying in the roadway. The van fled the scene traveling eastbound on Camino Del Sol. The dark vehicle also fled the scene traveling northbound on Rice Avenue.
Motorcyclist Hayslett was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for serious injuries but is listed in stable condition.
