DETAILS:

On January 23, 2014, at about 6:29 A.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to intersection of Rice Avenue and Camino Del Sol in reference to an injury traffic collision involving a motorcyclist.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcycle, driven by Thomas James Hayzlett Jr., was traveling northbound on Rice Avenue approaching Camino Del Sol. According to witnesses, a white van was traveling southbound on Rice Avenue and made a left turn at Camino Del Sol as the motorcyclist entered the intersection. Witnesses reported that a collision between the van and the motorcycle caused Hayzlett to be ejected from the motorcycle. A second vehicle, described only as a dark colored compact vehicle, was reported to have struck Hayzlett after he was lying in the roadway. The van fled the scene traveling eastbound on Camino Del Sol. The dark vehicle also fled the scene traveling northbound on Rice Avenue.

Motorcyclist Hayslett was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for serious injuries but is listed in stable condition.

DETAILS:

At 0237 hours, officers responded to a resident report of subjects in a tan Mercedes sedan selling narcotics. Officers saw the vehicle leaving the area and stopped it at Edgewood Way and “M” Street.

The driver, Hugo Alvarado, 35-year old Oxnard resident, told officers he had a gun in the vehicle. A .22 caliber revolver loaded with blanks was located under the driver’s seat. The driver was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm in a motor vehicle (25400(a)(1) PC and possession of narcotics (11377 H & S).

Two female passengers were arrested for narcotics violations.

DETAILS:
On 2/15/14, at about 0145 hours, Officers contacted the victim of a robbery in the area of Sixth Street and Oxnard Boulevard. The victim told the officers that he was in the 600 block of S. Oxnard Boulevard at a local bar, when he was approached by Reyna Gallardo, who asked the victim to dance. Gallardo demanded money from the victim after they had danced. Suspect Pedro Torres then approached the victim and threatened to stab the victim if he did not give Gallardo money. The victim gave the suspects money and left the bar to contact the police. Torres and Gallardo were located in the area and arrested. Torres was arrested for robbery. Gallardo was arrested for robbery and found to be in possession of narcotics and a concealed knife.

On 2-23-14, at approximately 2134 hours, officers were dispatched to the 200 Block of West Juniper Street regarding a shooting victim. When officers arrived they located a male subject and found that he had been shot. The male subject was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

The victim is a 23-year old Oxnard resident. His name is being withheld because he is a victim of a violent crime. Investigators believe the shooting is gang-related but because this is an active investigation further details will not be released at this time.

On 03/01/2014 at 0700 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department investigated an incident involving a carjacking. The suspects were identified as Mario Montes and Anna Ramirez. At 1220 hours this date, officers located the suspects and the victim’s vehicle at the Mobile Station, 490 S. Victoria Ave. Suspect Montes attempted to flee from officers and was taken into custody without incident. He was observed discarding a firearm during the chase. Both suspects were arrested for the carjacking and other narcotic related charges.

During the foot pursuit, a witness observed Montes discarding the firearm in a trash can and assisted by pointing this out to the police.

The Oxnard Police Department encourages residents to be partners in public safety as part of the Operation Safer and Stronger initiative. This is an excellent example of a witness who saw suspicious activity, called the police, and provided the appropriate information.

DETAILS:
On April 23, 2014, at about 12:30 A.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the 1800 block of MacArthur Place in reference to an injury traffic collision involving a motorcyclist.

Responding officers conducted the preliminary investigation and it was determined that the motorcycle, driven by Jermaine Parrilla, was traveling eastbound on MacArthur Place at a high rate of speed. For an unknown reason, Parrilla lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected from it. Parrilla and the motorcycle traveled over 200 feet before coming to rest near a parked vehicle. As a result of the collision, Parrilla suffered significant head trauma as he was not wearing a motorcycle helmet.

Parrilla was transported from the scene to the Ventura County Medical Center where he has undergone surgery. He is currently listed in critical condition.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision.

On May 12, armed robberies occurred at three businesses within Oxnard. During the first incident, an armed suspect described above entered the business in the 3200 Block of Saviers Road. The suspect demanded money and fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash.

During the second incident, an armed suspect entered the business in the 3600 Block of Saviers Road. The suspect described above demanded money and fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police believe these two robberies may be related, and that the suspect may have arrived and fled on a bicycle.

During the third incident, an armed suspect described above entered the business in the 900 Block of Ventura Road and demanded cash. The suspect fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Nobody was injured during these robberies.

On 5/18/14, at approximately 2115 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a residence in the 1200 Block of South H Street reference a disturbance. John Carrillo, a 24 year old Oxnard resident, attempted to flee into the residence as officers approached to investigate the incident.

Carrillo was contacted and found to be in possession of small quantities of methamphetamine and prescription medication for sales. Carrillo had also attempted to discard a 9mm handgun prior to being contacted by officers. An illegally modified shotgun was also located at the scene. Carrillo was arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and various narcotics and weapons charges.

In an effort to address the recent increase in firearms-related crimes, Oxnard Police launched the Operation Safer and Stronger Initiative, as well as the Firearms Strike Team (FAST) led by the Violent Crimes Unit, to proactively remove firearms from prohibited persons within the city. The objective of the initiative and FAST is to reduce gun violence in Oxnard through education, intervention, and enforcement.

On May 31, 2014, at approximately 1918 hours, an Oxnard Police Department Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Ventura Road and Fifth Street. The vehicle attempted to evade the officer and sped off at a high rate of speed. A vehicle pursuit ensued which lasted approximately one minute.

During the pursuit, the driver of the vehicle, Nastacha Sattiewhite, began driving erratically, which included driving on the wrong side of the road and speeding, in an attempt to evade the officer.

The pursuit ended in the area of Ventura Road and Kamala Street when Sattiewhite abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Sattiewhite was located on a neighboring street and taken into custody without incident. She was booked into Ventura County Jail for felony warrants, evading in a vehicle, and providing a false name to avoid arrest.

DETAILS:

On July 4th, at approximately 2330 hours, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1000 Block of King Street. Michael Silerio was found driving on a suspended license. Officers conducted an inventory search of the vehicle prior to towing it and located a stun gun and baton. Officers then searched Silerio’s residence and located a semi-automatic handgun, rifle, and loaded magazines. Due to Silerio’s prior felony conviction, he is prohibited from possessing these items and was charged with several weapons violations.

In an effort to address recent increases in firearms-related crimes, the Oxnard Police Department launched the Operation Safer and Stronger initiative, as well as the Firearms Strike Team (FAST) led by the Violent Crimes Unit, to proactively remove firearms from prohibited persons in the City.
