DETAILS:
On April 23, 2014, at about 12:30 A.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the 1800 block of MacArthur Place in reference to an injury traffic collision involving a motorcyclist.

Responding officers conducted the preliminary investigation and it was determined that the motorcycle, driven by Jermaine Parrilla, was traveling eastbound on MacArthur Place at a high rate of speed. For an unknown reason, Parrilla lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected from it. Parrilla and the motorcycle traveled over 200 feet before coming to rest near a parked vehicle. As a result of the collision, Parrilla suffered significant head trauma as he was not wearing a motorcycle helmet.

Parrilla was transported from the scene to the Ventura County Medical Center where he has undergone surgery. He is currently listed in critical condition.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision.

DETAILS:

On May 12, armed robberies occurred at three businesses within Oxnard. During the first incident, an armed suspect described above entered the business in the 3200 Block of Saviers Road. The suspect demanded money and fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash.

During the second incident, an armed suspect entered the business in the 3600 Block of Saviers Road. The suspect described above demanded money and fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police believe these two robberies may be related, and that the suspect may have arrived and fled on a bicycle.

During the third incident, an armed suspect described above entered the business in the 900 Block of Ventura Road and demanded cash. The suspect fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Nobody was injured during these robberies.

DETAILS:

On 5/18/14, at approximately 2115 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a residence in the 1200 Block of South H Street reference a disturbance. John Carrillo, a 24 year old Oxnard resident, attempted to flee into the residence as officers approached to investigate the incident.

Carrillo was contacted and found to be in possession of small quantities of methamphetamine and prescription medication for sales. Carrillo had also attempted to discard a 9mm handgun prior to being contacted by officers. An illegally modified shotgun was also located at the scene. Carrillo was arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and various narcotics and weapons charges.

In an effort to address the recent increase in firearms-related crimes, Oxnard Police launched the Operation Safer and Stronger Initiative, as well as the Firearms Strike Team (FAST) led by the Violent Crimes Unit, to proactively remove firearms from prohibited persons within the city. The objective of the initiative and FAST is to reduce gun violence in Oxnard through education, intervention, and enforcement.

DETAILS:
On May 31, 2014, at approximately 1918 hours, an Oxnard Police Department Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Ventura Road and Fifth Street. The vehicle attempted to evade the officer and sped off at a high rate of speed. A vehicle pursuit ensued which lasted approximately one minute.

During the pursuit, the driver of the vehicle, Nastacha Sattiewhite, began driving erratically, which included driving on the wrong side of the road and speeding, in an attempt to evade the officer.

The pursuit ended in the area of Ventura Road and Kamala Street when Sattiewhite abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Sattiewhite was located on a neighboring street and taken into custody without incident. She was booked into Ventura County Jail for felony warrants, evading in a vehicle, and providing a false name to avoid arrest.

DETAILS:

On July 4th, at approximately 2330 hours, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1000 Block of King Street. Michael Silerio was found driving on a suspended license. Officers conducted an inventory search of the vehicle prior to towing it and located a stun gun and baton. Officers then searched Silerio’s residence and located a semi-automatic handgun, rifle, and loaded magazines. Due to Silerio’s prior felony conviction, he is prohibited from possessing these items and was charged with several weapons violations.

In an effort to address recent increases in firearms-related crimes, the Oxnard Police Department launched the Operation Safer and Stronger initiative, as well as the Firearms Strike Team (FAST) led by the Violent Crimes Unit, to proactively remove firearms from prohibited persons in the City. DETAILS:

On 7-25-14, at 1700 hours, detectives from the Oxnard Police Department and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office concluded a six-month long investigation with a traffic stop in the area of Auto Center Drive and Los Olivos Drive. Detectives had authored a search warrant for suspect Francisco Amaya Parra and spotted him in the area driving a vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and during the search, detectives located over two pounds of methamphetamine. Parra was arrested for possession for sales and transportation of methamphetamine. He was later transported and booked at the Ventura County Main Jail.

During a search warrant served at Parra’s residence in the 900 Block of Collins Street in El Rio, detectives located an additional pound of methamphetamine as well as a large amount of currency. Detectives learned that two young children resided at the home and where at risk of being exposed to these dangerous drugs. Children and Family Services were called to the scene. Parra’s girlfriend, Zoila Cervantes, was also arrested for conspiracy to distribute dangerous narcotics and child endangerment.

An investigation is continuing.

On 7-31-14, at 2319 hours, officers responded to the Jack-In-the-Box Restaurant located in the 900 Block of Ventura Road regarding a robbery. Employees and patrons advised two males entered the business, brandished a handgun, and took money from the cash register. The suspects were described as being medium to tall in height with slender builds. Both were wearing hooded sweatshirts and had bandanas covering their faces. The suspects were last seen on foot heading in a northeasterly direction. There were no injuries.

Update:

The Oxnard Police Department was notified this morning that Larry Caro Sr. died earlier this morning from injuries related to this collision. This collision is still under investigation.

DETAILS:
On September 22, 2014, at approx. 7:13 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department along with EMS personnel responded to the 3200 block of west Hemlock Street in reference to an injury traffic collision.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a tow truck was stopped on Hemlock Street with a black Jeep Liberty on top of the flat bed. The tow truck operator, Larry Caro Sr., was standing to the rear of the tow truck when it was struck by a pewter 2000 Chevrolet Chevy Blazer driven by Chanel Monique Drake. The impact caused Caro to be thrown under the tow truck.

Caro was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura where he underwent emergency surgery for his injuries and is listed in critical condition. Drake was transported to St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Oxnard where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision. The investigation is continuing.

DETAILS:
On 10-29-14, detectives from the West county narcotic task force concluded an investigation with a search warrant service at a home in the 400 block of Valmore in the city of Ventura. Detectives had information that a resident at this location was suspected of having a concentrated cannabis “honey oil” extraction lab inside of it.

Upon entry into the location, detectives immediately noticed indications of an extraction lab. They seized almost two ounces of marijuana extract (honey oil) and one pound of marijuana. Detectives contacted the suspect, Rudy Rico, away from the home and was later arrested and transported to the Ventura County Jail. During the search of the residence, detectives also learned that three young children and their mother also lived there and Child Protective Services were called out to the location. All three children were removed from the home and taken into protective custody.

During the service of the search warrant, detectives asked for the assistance of the City of Ventura Fire department since there was a possibility of an extraction lab. These types of labs have become popular but are very dangerous. These types of processes use flammable gas to extract the THC from the marijuana and if done in a confined area can be extremely dangerous.

DETAILS:

On 11-14-14, at approximately 2000 hours, members of the Special Enforcement Unit were deployed in the area of Ivywood Drive and “F” Street when they saw a subject breaking into the garage of a residence in the 700 Block of Ivywood Drive. Additional Special Enforcement Unit officers responded and found the subject, later identified as 19-year old Andrew Acosta, hiding inside the garage. Acosta attempted to flee but was immediately taken into custody. Acosta was found in possession of several burglary tools and narcotics paraphernalia. A records check indicated that Acosta was on probation for burglary-related offenses.

During the investigation, 20-year old David Velez was contacted at the residence. Velez was in possession of a semi-automatic handgun. Velez is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm. Velez was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm not registered to him.
