On 09-23-2010 at 10:44 AM, officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Cabrillo way in the City of Oxnard; reference a possible residential burglary in progress. A citizen reported that two males approximately seventeen years of age jumped the side fence of a residence into the rear yard. When officers arrived on scene a perimeter was set around the residence. A male juvenile exited the front door of the residence with bags containing stolen property and was taken into custody. The second suspect fled out the rear door of the residence and was taken into custody a short time later, in the rear yard of a residence in the 2600 block of Ruby Dr. Both suspects were booked into Juvenile Hall for residential burglary.

As a precautionary measure, during the search for the second suspect, Oxnard High School was locked down for approximately twenty minutes. No students or faculty were in any danger.

The identity of the suspects is being withheld due to their age.

The Oxnard Police Department encourages citizens to keep a watchful eye and report suspicious activity to the police.

DETAILS:

On August 17th 2010, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to a reported shooting in the area of San Jose Street at Halcon Street in the City of Oxnard. Upon arrival, officers located shooting victim Adrian Lerma. Lerma had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The subsequent investigation has determined Oxnard resident Rene Ramos, Date of Birth July 17th, 1985, is responsible for the Lerma murder. Ramos fled the area after the murder. A murder case has been filed by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office against Ramos and there is an active warrant for Ramos’s arrest for the murder.

The City of Oxnard has a long standing policy to offer a reward for the arrest and conviction of homicide suspects. That offer is extended to this case as well. Anyone who provides information on the whereabouts of Ramos which directly leads to his capture and arrest is eligible to share in a $10,000 reward. See the attached flyer.

On 10-14-10, at approximately 5:20 PM, a car stop was made by Oxnard Police. Four occupants of the car fled from officers. The Oxnard Police Department received several phone calls from homeowners reporting unknown juvenile(s) trespassing in their backyard. Officers arrived on scene and completed a yard to yard search. Officers located a 17 year-old juvenile in the 900-block of South K Street. The homeowners did not know the juvenile and took the juvenile into custody. The other occupants of the car were not located.

On 11-26-10, at approximately 0745 hours, Oxnard Police Officers responded to Jack in the Box, located at 550 S. Victoria Ave. reference a stabbing victim. Upon arrival, officers contacted Fidencio Hernandez, who was suffering from a stab wound to the neck. Hernandez was transported to Ventura County Medical Center, where he is listed in serious but stable condition.

An investigation is ongoing.

On 12/19/10 at approximately 2304hours, officers were dispatched to a stabbing victim at 632 E. Poplar, a board and care home. When they arrived they located the victim, who had suffered three stab wounds to her back and one stab wound to her neck. The victim was conscious and able to speak. She told officers that she was lying in bed when another resident, Dora Riley, came into the victim’s room and they started talking. During the conversation, Riley became upset and started to stab the victim with a knife.

The victim was transported to VCMC, where she was immediately taken into surgery. She is listed in serious but stable condition.

Riley was taken into custody at the scene and the weapon was recovered. The motive for the stabbing is still unknown at this time.

A power outage in the area of Five Points has resulted in the traffic signals at the Five Points intersection to go dark. In an effort to assist motorists, the City of Oxnard Streets Department has installed temporary stop signs at the intersection. The intersection is expected to be affected for 6 to 20 hours until power can restored. Significant delays can be expected; and alternate routes are advisable.

The public is reminded that the California Vehicle Code requires the driver of any vehicle approaching an intersection which has official traffic control signals that are inoperative, to stop at the intersection, and then proceed with caution when it is safe to do so.

On July 29, 2011, at approximately 2255 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the 4600 block of S. Rose Av. after receiving a call of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Once on scene, officers and EMS personnel found that a pedestrian, a 21-year old male, residence unknown, had been run over by several vehicles in the northbound lanes of Rose Av. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are attempting to determine why the pedestrian was in the roadway at the time of the collision. According to witnesses, the pedestrian was laying in the roadway when he was run over by several vehicles. Several motorists stopped after seeing the pedestrian get run over. It is unclear whether or not the pedestrian was struck by another vehicle prior to being discovered by the witnesses who stopped.

On October 12, 2011 at about 9 p.m., Oxnard Police officers were handling another call for service in the 4500 block Terrace Avenue when they heard several gunshots in the immediate area. While checking the area, the officers located a 19-year-old victim who had been shot and had several stab wounds. The victim was transported to VCMC where he underwent extensive surgery. Unfortunately the victim did not survive his injuries.

According to witnesses, the victim was walking in the 4500 block of Terrace Ave when an argument took place which involved at least two other men. The witness heard several gunshots and saw several people running through the alley.

NEWS RELEASE

(Oxnard, CA) Today Augustin Medina, 46, of Oxnard was booked into Ventura County Jail for a felony domestic violence warrant (three counts of 273a(a) and one count 243e1 PC) by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Medina is also the suspect in the October 24, 2011 officer involved shooting and pursuit that spanned three cities. The investigation into the officer involved shooting incident is continuing and Medina faces additional charges in that case including: 273.5 PC (domestic violence); felony failure to yield; and attempted homicide.

(Original text of first news release of incident)At about 8 p.m. on October 24, 2011 Oxnard PD received a call regarding a domestic violence incident taking place in the 200 block of Roderick Avenue. Oxnard officers arrived on scene, but the suspect fled prior to their arrival. A firearm had been mentioned, and officers believed the suspect was armed. Officers were able to determine that a crime had occurred.

At about 9 p.m., Ventura County Sheriff’s (VCSO) deputies were involved in a pursuit with the suspect in his vehicle on Highway 33. It was reported that the suspect had fired at the deputies as he drove. The suspect then traveled onto Highway 101 and headed south. When he reached Seaward and Highway 101, the suspect fired at the deputies, who returned fire. The suspect got back onto Highway 101 and exited in Oxnard at Vineyard Avenue. He returned to the Roderick Avenue residence and fired shots at that location. No one was injured from this action.

The suspect eventually made his way (with Oxnard PD and VCSO deputies in pursuit) to the Marina Village area in Port Hueneme. The suspect continued north on Victoria Avenue where he again exchanged gunfire; this time with VCSO deputies and Oxnard PD officers. The suspect was struck by gunfire, and was transported to a local hospital.

The name of the suspect and his condition is not being released at this time. The name of the victim will not be released as she is a domestic violence victim and her identity is protected by law.

Neither Oxnard officers nor VCSO deputies sustained injuries. Two people who were not involved in the incident received minor injuries from flying glass. One of those individuals was taken to the hospital for treatment.

On December 17, 2011 at about noon, Leonardo Ramirez was outside of the residence located in the 500 block of West Hill Street waiting for Octavio Hernandez to arrive. Ramirez owed Hernandez money from a previous business arrangement. As Hernandez arrived, Ramirez pulled a semi-auto handgun from his waistband and pointed it directly at Hernandez.

Ramirez ran into the residence in the 500 block of West Hill Street where he held three juvenile children (unrelated to him) inside of a bedroom. Ramirez was still in possession of the handgun and held the children for about an hour prior to releasing them to the patrol officers who were outside.

Oxnard patrol officers, SWAT officers with the armored police vehicle, and hostage negotiators were sent to the location as suspect Ramirez barricaded himself inside of the bedroom. There were many attempts to contact Ramirez but all met with negative results.

SWAT officers eventually deployed several diversionary devices into the residence and at about 4 p.m. Ramirez walked to the front door and gave himself up and was taken into custody without incident.

None of the hostages were injured including Ramirez.

The weapon Ramirez used in the incident was eventually recovered inside of the residence.
