DETAILS:
On April 27, 2015 at approximately 6:30pm, officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit observed a U-haul rental pick-up truck fail to stop at the stop sign at Glenwood Dr. and ‘M’ St. in the City of Oxnard. The officers stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver, 28 year old Oxnard resident Fabian Ramirez. It was determined that Ramirez was driving with a suspended driver’s license. During the course of the investigation officers searched the vehicle and located a loaded handgun concealed inside. Ramirez had been convicted of a prior felony charge which prohibits him from possessing firearms. It was also discovered that the serial number on the firearm was obliterated which is illegal under California law. Ramirez is a member of a local Oxnard street gang. Ramirez was arrested for possession of a loaded and concealed firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
The Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit is committed to reducing gang and firearms violence in the City of Oxnard through the strict enforcement of laws specifically targeting known, active gang members residing in the City. Citizens are reminded to contact the Police Department when they observe suspicious activity or are witness to a crime.
