Three members of an Oxnard family received significant injuries in a traffic collision at the intersection of Fifth St. and Harbor Blvd. this evening.
 
At 7:03 p.m., Oxnard police and fire responded to an injury collision at the noted location. The Toyota Prius, driven by a 52-year-old Oxnard resident, was northbound on Harbor Blvd. The Dodge Charger, driven by a 23-year-old Oxnard man, was southbound on Harbor Blvd. and made an eastbound turn in front of the Prius.
 
The driver of the Charger was not injured in the crash, but the driver of the Prius and his two daughters, ages 9 and 11, sustained significant injuries as a result of the head-on crash and were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
 
An investigation as to the cause of the collision is continuing.

Detectives from the Ventura County Combined Agencies Team (VCAT) and the Oxnard PD narcotics unit made an arrest on Wednesday resulting in the seizure of just under four pounds of heroin. An ongoing investigation revealed that Jose Luis Naranjo Heredia, 46, was distributing heroin throughout the city of Oxnard. Naranjo Heredia was contacted in the area of Hobson and Seventh Streets on February 15, 2012. An Oxnard PD K-9 located a quantity of heroin concealed in Heredia’s vehicle.

Detectives subsequently served a search warrant at Heredia’s residence and located an additional three and a half pounds of heroin along with other materials associated with the packaging of heroin for distribution. The heroin seized has a potential street value of $136,000.00.

VCAT is a multi agency taskforce comprised of investigators from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Oxnard Police Department, Ventura County District Attorney’s office and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
 
The public needs to be aware of the dangers of heroin use. Heroin, an opiate narcotic, is an illegal and highly addictive drug. Heroin and other opioids primary addictive qualities are exerted on those regions of the brain and central nervous system that are responsible for the pleasure sensation of “reward” and the “physical / psychological dependence syndrome.” Heroin itself, as well as the drug abusing lifestyle, may suppress the body’s immune system. This suppression makes users at higher risk for infections, some life threatening. Intravenous drug abusers account for the highest percentage of HIV (AIDS) and hepatitis infected population.
 
Anyone with information on those responsible for distributing illicit drugs anywhere in Ventura County should notify their local law enforcement agency.

(Oxnard, CA) Oxnard PD homicide detectives are investigating a shooting which left a 19-year-old Oxnard man dead. On February 29, 2012 at about 9:00 p.m., officers responded to a call of a shooting victim in the 2000 block of San Benito Street. Officers located a 19-year-old male victim who had a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries. Detectives are investigating this incident.

On March 3, 2012 at about 4 p.m. Oxnard PD responded to a report of a stabbing in the 2000 block of North Ventura Road. Officers located a 21-year-old man who was suffering from a stab wound. Witnesses told the officers that the stabbing happened near the intersection of Azalea Street and Ventura Road.
 
The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries were not life-threatening.

(Oxnard, CA) Today at about 6:30 a.m. Oxnard PD officers received a call at 3500 South B Street regarding a carjacking. The victim (28-year-old Oxnard resident) said that a Hispanic man in his 30s wearing a black sweatshirt or black and white flannel hooded shirt approached the victim and demanded his car. The suspect threatened the victim with a knife. The victim gave up his car, a gray 2003 Nissan Altima and called police. Officers checked the area but were not able to find the suspect or the stolen car.
 
At about 8:15 a.m. a hit and run collision call came in from the area of Pleasant Valley Road at Cypress Road. The stolen vehicle in the carjacking case had hit a parked Oxnard Fire Department truck, causing minor damage. The suspect left the hit and run scene going south on Cypress Road.
 
Officers later located the stolen Altima on Cypress Road near the 300 block of Howell Road. Witnesses saw a Hispanic man and Hispanic woman run from the Altima. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate either person. The Altima was recovered and returned to the victim.

(Oxnard, CA) Today at about 1 p.m. a man walked into the 76 Gas Station located at 1861 N. Ventura Road in Oxnard with a gun. He threatened the attendant with the gun and demanded money. Once the attendant handed over cash, the suspect left the business. No one was injured.
 
The suspect is an unknown race male with light skin who spoke English. He was wearing a bandana over his face, a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and black gloves. He was described as having a thin build. He left on foot in an unknown direction.

(Oxnard, CA) On Friday May 25, 2012 at about 8 p.m., Oxnard police officers were dispatched to the Walmart Supercenter Store located at 2001 N. Rose Avenue in Oxnard regarding a sexual assault committed on a child.   
 
The male victim told officers he had been in the electronics area of the store when a Hispanic male adult approached and sexually assaulted him. The store’s surveillance cameras captured the assault on video. A similar incident occurred at the same store involving another young boy in January of this year. That incident was also reported to police but no suspect was identified. 
 
On Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 8 p.m. a Walmart loss prevention agent saw the same suspect in the store that he saw on the video committing the sexual assault on the child and immediately notified Oxnard PD. Oxnard officers responded and arrested the suspect. The suspect is Juan Francisco Gonzalez (7/29/72) of Oxnard.  He is currently being held in the Ventura County Jail on $500,000 bond. Gonzalez is not eligible for bail because of an immigration hold.
 
Family Protection Unit detectives believe there are about 20 young boys who were sexually assaulted by Gonzalez. Detectives have reviewed many hours of video and have been able to identify five victims up to this point. Additionally, Gonzalez may have committed these acts at the Caballeros Circus on Saviers Road in March or April of this year and possibly at the Game Stop on Rose Avenue.
 
Gonzalez’s victims are all boys and range between the ages of 7 to 10. He does not remove the victims’ clothing but he has physical contact with them in a sexual manner. If you believe your child may have been a victim of this suspect, please contact Detective Luis McArthur at (805) 385-7662.

(Oxnard, CA) On Monday, June 18, 2012 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department’s Traffic Unit conducted an undercover “court sting” operation at the Ventura County Superior Court targeting individuals who have had their license suspended for DUI and/or other hazardous driving offenses.
 
Undercover officers attended the morning traffic court proceedings and listened to the judge instruct several individuals not to drive as their licenses were suspended or revoked. After hearing the instructions, officers followed the offenders from the courtroom to the parking area to make sure they were following the judge’s orders.
 
Officers followed eleven offenders and three had alternate means of transportation. The remaining eight chose to get into their vehicles and drive. They were stopped by awaiting officers and arrested. Their vehicles were towed and will be subject to 30-day impounds.
 
Oxnard PD will continue to conduct these types of operations to help reduce the number of DUI and injury-related collisions on our roadways. In recent years, when compared with cities of similar size in California, Oxnard consistently ranks in the top three for the highest number of DUI and injury crashes. Funding for this effort was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

(Oxnard, CA) On July 23, 2012 at 6:19 p.m. Oxnard PD officers responded to Colonia Park located at Juanita Avenue and Cooper Road regarding calls of shots fired. Officers contacted several witnesses and the description of the suspect vehicle was broadcast to all on-duty staff. 
 
At 6:27 p.m., officers with the Special Enforcement Unit stopped a vehicle they believed to be the suspect vehicle and observed a weapon partially concealed inside. A witness from the original scene was taken to the location of the traffic stop and positively identified one of the occupants as being involved in the incident at Colonia Park.
 
Pompeyo Diaz De Leon (1/4/77) and Ariana Pacheco (8/2/93) were arrested for discharging a weapon in a reckless manner and numerous firearms violations. Diaz De Leon was also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license. No one was hit by gunfire during the incident at the park.
