On March 11, 2013 at approximately 2230 hours, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired in the area of First Street and Marquita Avenue. Shortly after arriving on scene, officers were notified of a shooting victim at Saint John’s Hospital.
Detectives learned the victim was driving a vehicle when he slowed and stopped for a stop sign at the intersection of First Street and Marquita Avenue. A suspect approached the victim’s vehicle armed with a firearm and shot several times into the vehicle. The victim was seriously injured by the gunfire, but was able to transport himself to the hospital.
During the investigation, Oxnard resident Christian Rodriguez (18 years old) was identified as the suspect in this incident. On January 14, 2014, Rodriguez was charged with attempted murder for the March 11th shooting. Rodriguez was already in custody for unrelated charges at the Ventura County Jail.
