DETAILS:
On 8/18/13 at approximately 0600 hours, an officer from the Oxnard Police Department was patrolling the area of Ventura Road and Devonshire Drive when he stopped a vehicle for a vehicle code violation. The driver was contacted and identified as Frank Granados Jr. It was determined that Granados was on probation for prior narcotic related offenses. During a probation search of the vehicle, a large amount of methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe was located. Granados was arrested for 11377(a) H&S, Possession of a Controlled Substance, 11379(a) H&S, Transportation of a Controlled Substance, 11364.1(a) H&S, Possession of a Smoking Device, and 3454(c) P.C., PRO violation, and booked into the Ventura County Jail.

Frank Granados Jr. was on the Post Release Offender (PRO) program. The PRO Program released non-violent, non-sexual, and non-serious offenders from prison pursuant to Assembly Bill 109.

INCIDENT:	DUI/Drivers License checkpoint Planned this Weekend

DETAILS: Oxnard, CA – Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on Saturday, September 14th at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough.

Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

In 2010, over 10,000 people were killed nationally in motor vehicle traffic crashes that involved at least one driver or motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08% or higher. In California, this deadly crime led to 791 deaths because someone failed to designate a sober driver. “Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed 6 lives and resulted in 649 injury crashes harming 391 of our friends and neighbors,” said Senior Officer Jamie Brown.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. Based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public.

Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Oxnard Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to continue to work together to bring an end to these tragedies. On September 20, 2013, at about 10:51 P.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the intersection of Hemlock Street and Capstan Drive in reference to a hit-and-run injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, Aida Reyes, was transported to a local hospital where she underwent emergency surgery for her injuries. The Oxnard Police Department was informed this morning that Reyes died as a result of the injuries she sustained during the collision.

The Oxnard Police Traffic Unit is actively investigating this collision.

DETAILS:

On 9/23/2013, at approximately 4:40 AM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were stopped in the area of Seventh Street and Ventura Road when they heard several gunshots coming from a nearby neighborhood. Officers responded to the area of the 1300 block of Hull Place to investigate.

Officers observed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed and attempted a traffic stop. The occupants of the vehicle, two juveniles, 15 and 16 years old, fled from the vehicle and were arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle the juveniles were driving, a Mitsubishi Galant, was stolen but had not been reported. Officers also located a loaded semi-automatic handgun inside of the vehicle. Both Juveniles were charged with auto theft, conspiracy and weapons violations. They were lodged into Juvenile Hall.

No one was injured during this event and officers were unable to locate any damage related to the gunshots being fired.

DETAILS:

At 1116 hours, officers responded to Masters Donuts located at 440 S. Ventura Road after receiving a call of a robbery to the business. Officers learned a male in his 20s, 5-11, 195 pounds, wearing a black “hoodie” and grey shorts, attempted to rob the business by using a handgun.

An employee said that the suspect approached the counter and showed her a handgun. He demanded money but fled without any cash or property. No one was injured during the incident.

The suspect was last seen running northbound from the area.

DETAILS:
On 10-08-13, at 1129 hours, Officers attempted a traffic stop on a grey 90’s Honda Accord at Statham Blvd and Oxnard Boulevard for a traffic violation. The vehicle fled and a brief vehicle pursuit began. The officer discontinued the pursuit due to public safety reasons. Responding officers observed the vehicle in the 3100 block of Albany Drive which continued to drive erratically. The officers continued to follow the vehicle from a safe distance until the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot in the 3400 block of Frankfurt Court.

A perimeter was set up and both occupants were taken into custody after a brief search. The passenger, identified as Richard Reyes, a 26 year old Oxnard resident, was arrested for an outstanding warrant. The driver, identified as Jaime Aguirre, a 26 year old Oxnard resident, was arrested for felony evading, narcotics-related offenses and a felony warrant. Aguirre is currentlyin the Post Release Offender (PRO) program. The PRO’s Program released non-violent, non-sexual, and non-serious offenders from custody pursuant to Assembly Bill 109.

DETAILS: On 12/3/13, at approximately 1123 hours, an officer from the Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Rose Avenue and Gonzales Road. Further investigation revealed that the driver, Alfred Acevedo, was driving without a valid driver’s license. As the contact with Acevedo continued, a loaded handgun was found concealed on his person.

Acevedo was arrested without incident and charged with possession of a loaded, concealed and unregistered firearm. He was later booked into the Ventura County Jail.

On December 19, 2013 at about 0808 hours officers of the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a stabbing victim in the area of Briana Circle and Entrada Drive. Officers learned that 3 juveniles were walking in the area of Briana Circle and Entrada Drive when they were approached by 4 males driving in a dark green or black 3 series BMW. An altercation took place between the two groups and one subject received a single, non-life threatening, stab wound.

The 4 suspects were last seen leaving in the BMW southbound on Entrada Drive from Briana Circle.

DETAILS: Detectives from the Oxnard Police Department made an arrest today in the murder of Alfonso Mina. On the night of September 25^th, 2013 Mina was stabbed while at his home in the 2400 block of Alvarado Street in Oxnard. This was a brazen crime in which there appeared to be no clear motive for the crime.

After a lengthy investigation, detectives were able to piece together evidence which led to today’s arrest. The suspect in the murder is Nicholas Delgado a 24 year old resident of Camarillo. Delgado has been in custody at the Ventura County Jail since late September on charges of burglary unrelated to the murder. Detectives believe Delgado acted alone during the homicide. No further details will be released at this time because this is still an active investigation.

At about 2025 hours on 1/14/14, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a call of a carjacking in the 2500 Block of Vineyard Avenue. Once on scene, officers learned that the victim was seated in his vehicle (Blue ’97 Volvo 4Dr, 6RQS103), when he was confronted by the suspect (see description above). The suspect indicated he had a handgun and wanted the vehicle. The suspect eventually took control of the vehicle and drove away in an unknown direction, possibly towards Thousand Oaks.
