On 10/26/13 at approximately 2248 hours, officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of South “L” Street regarding a suspicious death. When officers arrived they located a male subject deceased inside the residence.

The subject was a 49 year old Oxnard resident. His name is being withheld until his family is notified. At this time investigators don’t know the cause of death and are attempting to establish what occurred.

DETAILS:

On 11/2/13 at approximately 1030 hours, an Oxnard Police Department Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Camino Del Sol and Colonia Road. The vehicle yielded, the officer exited his patrol vehicle and approached the car at which point the car sped off at a high rate of speed. A vehicle pursuit ensued which lasted approximately 6 minutes.

During the pursuit, the driver of the vehicle, Raymond Granados, began driving erratically, which included failing to stop at multiple red lights, and speeding, all in an attempt to evade the officer.

The pursuit ended at the location of Camino De La Luna and Rose Ave when Granados vehicle became disabled. Granados was arrested for felony evading, felony warrant, obstructing the duties of a peace officer, and possession of narcotics.

INCIDENT:	Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Handgun) – Arrest

DETAILS On 10/31/13 at approximately 1745 hours, Oxnard police officers responded to the intersection of Oxnard Boulevard and Saviers Road reference a shooting. At the same time, a female victim arrived at the Oxnard police department to report that her ex-boyfriend, identified as William Contreras, had been chasing her vehicle. At one point in the chase, the female victim said Contreras pointed a gun at her and fired a shot. Officers discovered a bullet hole in the female victim’s vehicle. At the time of the shooting, there were two other occupants in the vehicle. One of the occupants was the female victim’s 6 year old child.

On 11/3/13 at approximately 1400 hours, investigators from the Oxnard police department’s Violent Crimes Unit received information that Contreras was traveling to the Los Angeles area. This information was relayed to the California Highway Patrol and Contreras’s vehicle was located near the 101 Freeway and the 10 Freeway. CHP officers stopped Contreras’ vehicle and he was taken into custody without incident. A handgun was found in the vehicle. Contreras was transported back to Ventura County where he was booked into Ventura County jail for assault with a deadly weapon and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

DETAILS: On 11/16/13, at about 1155 hours, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of North Harrison. The anonymous reporting party stated that a 15 year old female was being held at this location and being forced into prostitution.

Officers arrived and contacted several children and adults at the location. They were able to locate the female in question who was also with suspect Rolando Ramirez and suspect Graciela Vasquez. The officers learned that Vasquez had taken the victim to the location and began inducing her to sexual acts with older men. It was also determined sexual acts had occurred between the victim and suspect Ramirez. Both Ramirez and Vasquez were arrested and booked in county jail.

During the investigation, officers located 10 additional children who were living in the home along with one adult female who rents the home. Officers are still determining the involvement of the adult female where the acts of prostitution were occurring. Children protective services were contacted and responded to the scene. The children were removed from the home.

At about 2020 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit were working enhanced gang enforcement in the Southwinds neighborhood of Oxnard due to recent incidents.

Officers contacted a traffic stop in the 5100 Block of S. “J” Street. During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a loaded handgun. Rodriguez was arrested for numerous firearms violations, including possession of a stolen handgun.

The 2014 Memorial Day Weekend Avoid the 14 Ventura County DUI Campaign concluded with the deployment of sobriety checkpoints in the cites of Ventura and Thousand Oaks, 15 special DUI saturation patrols and officers on routine patrol focusing special attention towards impaired drivers, all working to lower deaths/injuries on our local streets and highways. Fortunately, there were no deaths from alcohol-related collisions reported.

From 12:01 a.m. Friday, May 23, through midnight on Monday, May 26, officers representing 14 county law enforcement agencies arrested 64 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. During the 2013 Memorial Day weekend, 45 DUI arrests were made. No alcohol-related collision deaths were reported last year during the same time period.

Law enforcement officials will be conducting more Avoid DUI enforcement throughout the county during the Independence Day weekend followed by the 18 day campaign in August ending Labor Day weekend.

Police, Sheriff and the CHP encourage all motorists to save lives and report impaired drivers. Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1 anytime you encounter that dangerous driver. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

DETAILS:
On 11-29-13, at 2304 hours, officers were dispatched to the area of Seventh Street and “A” Street after receiving calls of gunshots heard in the area. Officers working in the area also heard the gunshots. An involved vehicle was described as a white sedan.

Officers located a vehicle matching that description occupied by four subjects. Officers made a traffic stop at the intersection of Fourth Street and “A” Street and located a loaded semi-automatic handgun along with spent shell casings in the vehicle.

The driver, Miguel Perez, 38 years old of Oxnard, was arrested for 246.3 (a) PC (discharging a firearm with gross negligence), and for numerous related weapons violations; all felonies.

An investigation revealed that Perez allegedly fired several rounds into the air while driving through the Downtown area of Oxnard. No one was injured during the incident.

Officers determined that the incident was not gang-motivated.

DETAILS:
On June 3, 2014, at about 7:26 P.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS responded to the intersection of Rice Avenue and Fifth Street in reference to an injury collision involving a vehicle and an Amtrak passenger train.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the black, Infiniti G35, driven by Joel Anthony Arias, was traveling southbound on Rice Avenue approaching the intersection of Fifth Street. Witnesses reported that the Infiniti had been traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. The train was traveling eastbound on the railroad tracks. For an unknown reason, the vehicle failed to stop for the downed railroad crossing arms, entered the railroad crossing and collided into the front of the train. As the train approached the intersection, the bells and lights for the railroad crossing arms were activated. The train’s horn was also audible.

Driver Arias and his passenger, a 19 year old male, were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no reported injuries among the 92 passengers and 14 crew members on the Amtrak train. The train consisted of two locomotives and 11 passenger cars.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

The Oxnard Police Department is attempting to locate the black 1997 Nissan truck (CA license 5P25941) belonging to Juan Carlos Garcia. The vehicle was last parked in the 1500 block of Alturas Street yesterday. Investigators don’t know if the suspect(s) took the vehicle so if you see the vehicle please dial “911.”

Investigators are continuing to investigate and establish a motive however, don’t believe this incident is gang related. DETAILS:

On September 16, 2014, at about 3:57 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the 300 block of west Vineyard Avenue in reference to an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian, a 15 year old male, was crossing the northbound across Vineyard Avenue near Edelweiss Street when he was struck by a red Volkswagen Jetta that was traveling eastbound on Vineyard Avenue. The impact caused the pedestrian to be thrown several feet and land in the roadway. According to witnesses, a second vehicle, a blue Ford F-150 pick-up truck, struck the pedestrian while he was lying in the roadway.

The pedestrian was transported from the scene to the Ventura County Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery for his injuries. He is currently listed in critical condition.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision. The investigation is continuing.
