(Oxnard, CA) At about 8 p.m. on October 24, 2011 Oxnard PD received a call regarding a domestic violence incident taking place in the 200 block of Roderick Avenue. Oxnard officers arrived on scene, but the suspect fled prior to their arrival.  A firearm had been mentioned, and officers believed the suspect was armed.  Officers were able to determine that a crime had occurred.
 
At about 9 p.m., Ventura County Sheriff’s (VCSO) deputies were involved in a pursuit with the suspect in his vehicle on Highway 33.  It was reported that the suspect had fired at the deputies as he drove. The suspect then traveled onto Highway 101 and headed south. When he reached Seaward and Highway 101, the suspect fired at the deputies, who returned fire. The suspect got back onto Highway 101 and exited in Oxnard at Vineyard Avenue. He returned to the Roderick Avenue residence and fired shots at that location. No one was injured from this action.
 
The suspect eventually made his way (with Oxnard PD and VCSO deputies in pursuit) to the Marina Village area in Port Hueneme. The suspect continued north on Victoria Avenue where he again exchanged gunfire; this time with VCSO deputies and Oxnard PD officers. The suspect was struck by gunfire, and was transported to a local hospital.
 
The name of the suspect and his condition is not being released at this time. The name of the victim will not be released as she is a domestic violence victim and her identity is protected by law.
 
Neither Oxnard officers nor VCSO deputies sustained injuries. Two people who were not involved in the incident received minor injuries from flying glass. One of those individuals was taken to the hospital for treatment.
 
Oxnard PD is the lead agency on this incident. VCSO deputies, detectives and officers from Port Hueneme Police are assisting.
 
At the time of this release, Victoria Avenue is closed from Wooley Road to Channel Islands Boulevard.  It is anticipated that it will remain closed until further notice.

(Oxnard, CA) – Oxnard Police Chief Jeri Williams was selected from among hundreds of nominees as one of Arizona’s 48 Most Intriguing Women. Her selection was made public on January 12, 2012.
  
The Arizona Centennial Legacy Project: Arizona’s 48 Most Intriguing Women partnered with the Arizona Historical Society and the Arizona Community Foundation. The idea was conceived as part of the centennial celebration marking the year Arizona became the 48^th State. These women were selected for their efforts to enhance the lives of those in Arizona and the leadership they have exhibited in their lives and careers.
 
Chief Williams was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and spent 22 years as a member of the Phoenix Police Department. She was an assistant chief for Phoenix PD when the opportunity to compete for the Oxnard PD chief’s job came to her attention.

“I am blessed to be chief of police in a city where the partnership between public safety and the community is so strong,” said Chief Williams.  “I am very proud of the men and women at OPD who protect the residents and visitors in Oxnard… it’s a great place to be.”

Those selected include the chief presiding judge of the Phoenix municipal court; the first Republican female governor of the state; an author and founder of a leadership organization; and a children’s advocate. The women will be honored at an event in Phoenix in March and a coffee-table book, which includes their photos and biographies, is set to be published.
 
A special Legacy Legends category recognizing four honorees for their significant national influence and global impact includes Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.); Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano; Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor (Ret.); and Grammy-winning recording artist Linda Ronstadt.
 
“I am honored and humbled being in the company of women who were trailblazers for others,” said Williams. “It is my hope and prayer that my efforts have made a difference in the lives of others.”

(Oxnard, CA) Oxnard Police Department announces the arrest of three male juveniles for a robbery case that occurred on January 22, 2012.
 
On January 22, 2012 at about 7:30 p.m., the male, juvenile victim was walking through Camino Del Sol Park when he was confronted by three Hispanic male juveniles. The suspects forced the victim to give them his skateboard, his shoes and a flannel jacket. After taking the victim’s property, all three suspects fled the area. The victim was not injured during the robbery.
 
Investigators from the Oxnard PD violent crimes unit (VCU) identified one of the robbery suspects. On February 16, 2012 at about 7:00 a.m., VCU members served a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, located in the 100 block of South Hayes Avenue. Several items of evidentiary value were seized from the residence. The suspect wasn’t at the residence but was later located and arrested.  
 
Investigators subsequently identified the other two outstanding suspects. On February 22, 2012 at about 7:00 a.m., VCU investigators and other OPD officers conducted two additional search warrants, one in the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue and the second in the 100 block of south Roosevelt Avenue. Additional evidence was seized from both locations and the two outstanding juvenile suspects were arrested.
 
All three juvenile suspects were booked into juvenile hall for robbery.

On Saturday, February 25, 2012 at about 7:17 a.m., the Oxnard PD received information regarding a man who was breaking into a vehicle at 300 Joya Street. Oxnard police officers responded and located the suspect, 19-year-old Jeffrey Estrada. Estrada was in possession of a car stereo which he removed from the victim’s vehicle. Estrada was also in possession of burglary tools and was subsequently arrested. 
 
The specific details provided by the person who called in assisted police in making this arrest. This is a good reminder for any concerned citizen to call 9-1-1 to report suspicious activity.

On March 21, 2012 at 9:20 p.m., Oxnard PD officers responded to a report of a shooting victim in the 4400 block of Phoenix Drive. Officers located a 19-year-old male victim suffering from a minor gunshot wound to his foot.
 
The victim said that he was shot once while walking in the area. The suspect is described as a male wearing a mask. Officers do not know the motive for the shooting. The victim was taken to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center and treated for his injuries.

Beginning in April of this year a series of armed street robberies occurred in area of 2300 South “J” Street. Most of the victims were between 12-14 years old and attended junior high schools in the area. In each robbery, the suspects were armed with a knife.
 
Robbery detectives from the Oxnard Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit identified the two suspects. Both suspects are 17 years old and are members of a local criminal street gang. On 5/18/12, the two suspects were arrested by detectives and booked into the Ventura County Juvenile Facility. Both of them were charged with five counts of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit a felony, and the gang enhancement charge.

On May 21, 2012, at about 3:40 p.m., Oxnard PD officers were patrolling the area around Camino Del Sol and Juanita Avenue when they came upon a disturbance. A citizen told the officers it was an altercation involving three people.  
 
The officers contacted and detained all three individuals. After a preliminary investigation, officers learned that a strong armed robbery had just occurred. The victim reported that one of the suspects took his cell phone, while the second suspect attempted to take his skateboard. The victim attempted to recover his property when he was physically assaulted by both suspects.
 
Both suspects were arrested for strong armed robbery and attempted strong armed robbery.

On Sunday June 3, 2012, at 10:01 p.m., Oxnard PD officers responded to a 9-1-1 call of a possible shooting victim in the east alley of Samuel Avenue near La Canada Ave.  When they arrived they located the victim, who had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center where lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the victim was pronounced dead at 10:44 p.m.   

At the time of this news release the motive for this crime has not been determined, and detectives are conducting an exhaustive search for witnesses and evidence in regards to this crime.

(Oxnard, CA) On June 10, 2012 at about 12:32 p.m., Oxnard PD officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of North “A” Street. When officers arrived they contacted a victim who said his vehicle was just stolen by four male juveniles. He told the officers that he was moving items from his residence into his vehicle and had left his keys in the vehicle. When the victim returned to his vehicle he observed the juveniles inside his vehicle. When the victim confronted the juveniles, one of them brandished a handgun at him.
 
As the juvenile drove off in the victim’s vehicle, the victim started to chase after him. The juveniles stopped the vehicle and fired one shot at the victim. The victim was uninjured.
 
About an hour later, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Kumquat regarding a person who was armed with a handgun. When the officers arrived they contacted four juveniles that matched the description of the suspects from the carjacking. The victim was transported to Kumquat and identified the four juveniles as being the suspects who stole his vehicle.
 
The victim’s vehicle and the firearm used in the incident haven’t been located at this point.

(Oxnard, CA) In anticipationof the July 4, 2012 holiday,Oxnard police officers will enforce the ban on fireworks in Oxnard. Anyone possessing, storing, selling, using, transporting or handling any type of fireworks is subject to criminal arrest or may be issued a civil citation with a fine of up to $1,000.

This year Oxnard PD has two ways to report fireworks in advance of the holiday. You may call the fireworks hotline at (805) 982-7141 or send an email to [email protected].
Please include the exact address where the fireworks are being used. If you have the name of the resident who is using fireworks, you may provide that information as well. It is not necessary for you to leave your name and phone number if you do not wish to do so.
 
In response to your tip, Oxnard PD will issue warnings to residents by mail, in person or by phone in an effort to prevent illegal fireworks activity in the days leading up to and including the Independence Day holiday.   
On July 4, residents are encouraged to report fireworks activity by calling the Oxnard PD Communications Center at (805) 385-7740. Please be prepared to tell the dispatcher as much information about the fireworks activity as possible including the location or the general area where the fireworks are coming from.

DUI SATURATION PATROL
In addition, there will be a team of officers conducting a saturation patrol around the city of Oxnard on July 4. Motorists are reminded to use designated drivers or taxis instead of driving. The funding for this saturation patrol is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
