DETAILS:
The Seventh Annual Santa to the Sea Half Marathon is scheduled for Sunday morning, December 14^th. The race starts at 8:00 a.m. in front of Santa on Ventura Boulevard and travels through the City of Oxnard where it ends at the Marine Emporium Landing located at 3600 South Harbor Boulevard. Over 3,500 runners will be participating in this year’s race.

Officers from the Oxnard Police Department will be handling the traffic control along the race course and motorists should expect significant delays at several intersections throughout the city. These intersections include:

·         Rice Avenue at Sturgis Road
·         Rose Avenue at Camino Del Sol
·         Fifth Street at Hobson Way
·         Ventura Road at Ninth Street
·         Wooley Road at Patterson Road
·         Victoria Avenue at Wooley Road
·         Harbor Boulevard at Wooley Road

Motorists wishing to travel northbound and southbound in the city are encouraged to use Oxnard Boulevard as it will not be affected by the race. Rice Avenue and Rose Avenue are expected to be re-opened by 9:30 a.m. All other roadways are expected to be re-opened by 12:00 p.m.

On December 16, 2014 at approximately 8:08 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a shooting victim in the 1200 block of Felicia Court. When officers arrived, they located David Lara, a 28-year old Oxnard resident, lying on the grass suffering from a single gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Personnel attended to Lara for several minutes but he ultimately died as a result of his injury.

This is Oxnard’s eleventh homicide of the year and the third in the month of December. The Oxnard Police Department has dedicated all of the investigative resources of the Violent Crimes Unit and the Major Crimes Unit into around the clock investigations of these recent incidents. The City of Oxnard offers up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspect(s) in homicide cases.

DETAILS:

On December 26, 2014, at about 1725 hours, a female suspect entered the Harbor Mart Convenience Store, located at 2810 South Harbor Boulevard. The suspect entered the store armed with a handgun and demanded money from the store employee. The employee complied and handed the suspect an undisclosed amount of currency. The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Oxnard Police Department Officers obtained information regarding a possible suspect that may have been in possession of a stolen firearm in Port Hueneme. Officers conducted an investigation and located the juvenile female suspect. The firearm was recovered. The clothes worn by the suspect during the robbery were later located at another residence. The money remains outstanding. The female suspect was taken into custody without incident and later transported to the Ventura County Juvenile Detention Center.

(OXNARD, Calif) – A man whose vehicle was stolen from Ventura called the Oxnard Police Department just after 12 p.m. today when he saw it being driven in the area of Gonzales Road and Rose Avenue in Oxnard.

Officers spotted the stolen Dodge pickup truck travelling westbound on Fifth Street near “A” Street. The driver refused to stop and led officers in a brief pursuit through downtown streets until reaching the 400 block of west First Street. The suspect then abandoned the truck, hopped fences and entered private yards. Officers set up a parameter in the neighborhood and found the suspect hiding in the backyard of a home in the 100 block of south “D” Street, which was less than a block away from the Oxnard Police Station.

The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Oxnard resident Carlos Ramirez who was booked into Ventura County Main Jail on suspicion of vehicle theft and reckless driving. His bail was set at $70,000. Police officers spoke with residents at homes in the search area to notify them of the incident. The truck was processed for evidence and returned to its legal owner.

On January 8, 2015, at approximately 5:07 p.m. an Oxnard Police Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a vehicle code violation in the area of First St. and Juanita Ave. The vehicle initially failed to yield but finally stopped in the area of Wilson Ave. and Third St.

A high risk stop was conducted and four occupants were detained. One of the occupants of the vehicle was 29-year-old Oxnard resident Victor Rodriguez. A search was conducted of the vehicle due to Rodriguez’ probation status. Officers searched Rodriguez’ vehicle and located a sawed off shotgun that had previously been reported stolen. Rodriguez was arrested for possession of the stolen shotgun along with additional weapons violations. The three remaining occupants; a 16-year- old Oxnard resident, a 17-year-old Oxnard resident, and a 14-year-old Oxnard resident were arrested for various misdemeanor charges.

On 1/16/15, at approximately 1000 hours, officers received a call of 4 subjects in the 600 block of Holly Ave in possession of a gun and narcotics. Officers contacted all four subjects on “H” St north of Erica Pl. McBride fled but was apprehended a short distance away. McBride discarded an object as he tried to flee from officers. The object was recovered and found to be a revolver. McBride and Cameron were arrested for gun related charges. Smith and the 17 year old male juvenile were arrested for narcotic related offenses.

Cameron is currently in the Post Release Offender Program, created by Assembly Bill 109 – the 2011 Public Safety Realignment – which was effective October 1, 2011. This program mandates that individuals sentenced to non-violent, non-serious or non-sex offenses will serve their sentences in county jails instead of state prison. The public should be aware that release under AB 109 is based on the offender’s most recent commitment offense, prior convictions are not considered.

The Oxnard Police Department launched the Operation Safer and Stronger initiative, as well as the Firearms Strike Team (FAST) led by the Violent Crimes Unit, to proactively remove firearms from prohibited persons within the city. The objective of this initiative and FAST is to reduce gun violence in Oxnard through education, intervention, and enforcement.

Members of the Oxnard Police Department Auto Theft Task Force observed a stolen Nissan Quest Van in the area of “H” Street and Erica Place. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle fled northbound on Ventura Road. Officers pursued the vehicle to the area of Moss Landing Blvd. and Kings River Dr. The suspects then fled on foot from the vehicle and were apprehended a short time later.

The driver identified as Luis Arrellano was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and evading the police. The passenger identified as Richard Sandoval was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. Both subjects were booked into the Ventura County Main Jail.

The Oxnard Police Department Auto Theft Task Force was created to address stolen vehicle issues within the City of Oxnard. The Oxnard Police Department advises citizens to park their vehicles in well lit areas, lock their vehicles and use anti-theft devices to secure their vehicles.

On 03/09/15 at 0005 hours, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to the Arco gas station at 105 North Oxnard Blvd reference a shooting victim. Upon arrival they contacted the victim Daniel Reyes in the parking lot. Reyes was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center and is listed in stable condition. His injuries are not life threatening. Officers learned the shooting occurred in the 400 block of Palm Drive.

Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department’s Violent Crime Unit are investigating the shooting. The motive for the shooting is unknown.

On March 12, 2015, at about 7:48 P.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the area of Fifth Street west of Victoria Avenue in reference to an injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a truck. When they arrived on scene, they located a motorcycle, the driver of the motorcycle, Estevan Antonio Ruiz, and his passenger, a 17-year old juvenile, lying in the roadway.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2001 Honda CBR900RR motorcycle, driven by Estevan Antonio Ruiz, was traveling eastbound on Fifth Street west of Victoria Avenue at a high rate of speed. A 1995 Toyota pickup truck, driven by Philip Francis Ingraham, was also traveling eastbound on Fifth Street. The motorcycle collided with the rear of the pickup truck. Ruiz and his juvenile passenger were both ejected from the motorcycle. Both of them were wearing motorcycle helmets.

Ruiz and his passenger were both transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for injuries sustained as a result of this collision. Ruiz is currently listed in critical condition. His juvenile passenger is listed in stable condition.

It is unknown at this time whether or not alcohol or drugs played a role in this collision.

Update 3/14/15, 10:00 P.M:
The Oxnard Police Department was notified this evening that motorcyclist Estevan Antonio Ruiz has died. The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of death. The collision is still being investigated.

On Tuesday, March 25, 2015, at about 9:03 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to Victoria Avenue, south of Gonzales Road, in reference to an injury traffic collision.

When officers arrived at the collision scene, they found that three vehicles were involved and sustained extensive damage. Emergency medical personnel arrived and immediately engaged in rescue efforts as two drivers were still trapped inside the vehicles. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate Javier Murillo, the driver of a white Chrysler 200 sedan and also used them to free Maria Cortez from the driver’s seat of a silver Nissan Altima. Juan Rodriguez, the driver of the third vehicle, a silver Honda Accord, sustained minor injuries and was later released from the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Chrysler, for an unknown reason, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Victoria Avenue when it collided head-on with the Nissan Altima. Almost simultaneously, a secondary collision occurred when the Chrysler struck the Honda Accord that was also traveling southbound on Victoria Avenue.

Driver Murillo was transported from the scene to the Ventura County Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery for extensive injuries. He is currently listed in critical condition. Driver Cortez was also transported to the Ventura County Medical Center where she is listed in serious condition. She sustained several injuries including two broken legs. The right front passenger in her vehicle, Manuela Jara-Avila, was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center and is in stable condition. She sustained lacerations to her right leg and injuries to her back and neck.

It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were factors in this collision. The collision is still under investigation.
