DETAILS:

On 5-13-10 at around midnight. The victim was walking in the alley of the 3300 block of Sycamore Dr. when 3 Hispanic Males approximately 21 years of age came up from behind the victim and began to assault him. The victim suffered several stab wounds on his back. The victim was transported to St. Johns where he is in serious, but stable condition. An investigation is continuing. The victims name is being withheld at this time due to possible gang/tagger retaliation.

INCIDENT:	Mother Arrested for Causing Injury to Daughter in Drunk Driving Crash

DETAILS:

An Oxnard mother was arrested for suspicion of felony drunk driving and felony child endangerment by Oxnard police following an early-morning crash that injured her 5-year-old daughter.

Oxnard police received a call of a collision at Harbor Freight Tools on E. Third Street at 2:49 a.m. The crash was witnessed by security personnel on duty at the business.

Witnesses observed the vehicle driven by Salas crash through a closed driveway gate leading to the business. The vehicle continued through the parking lot then crashed into a concrete median. Oxnard police and fire personnel responded to the scene and detained Salas who had exited the car with her daughter, Isabella Chavez. Two open containers of alcohol were found on the floorboard of the car.

As of this writing, Salas is still being treated at a local hospital for head injuries sustained in the crash. Chavez received minor injuries in the crash and was released to her father.

Upon release from the hospital, Salas will face charges of felony drunk driving and felony child endangerment. Once booked in the Ventura County Jail, bail will be set at $50,000. An investigation is continuing.

On 8-17-10 at around 10:25 PM, officers responded to a call of a shooting victim. Upon officers arrival they located the victim in front of a residence. Medical personnel attempted to revive the victim with negative results.

Witnesses told officers that the suspect and victim had a physical altercation and during the fight the victim was shot. The victim attempted to run into the residence for help when he collapsed from his injuries. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

At around 7:30 AM officers from the Special Enforcement Team surrounded the suspect’s residence on San Gorgonio and started to make verbal contact with the occupants. By 11:30 the team entered and cleared the residence with the assistance of the Ventura County Bomb Squad. The suspect was gone; he had fled in his vehicle possibly last night.

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect in this homicide. The suspect photo is attached, he should be considered armed and dangerous. The Oxnard Police Department and Oxnard Code Compliance Department conducted a special joint operation in response to complaints of illegal gambling at Del Sol Park in the La Colonia neighborhood of Oxnard.

Several males and females were observed playing cards, conducting monetary transactions and drinking alcohol in the park. Four adult males, all Oxnard residents, were arrested for the misdemeanor gambling violation and transported to the Oxnard Police Department for further questioning. One adult male, also an Oxnard resident, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Two others were cited for the consumption of alcohol in the park which carries a minimum $100 fine.

On 11-20-2010 at approximately 2245 hours, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a stabbing that had just occurred at Little Caesars Pizza, located at 3460 Saviers Road. Upon arrival, officers located victim Zavala, who was suffering from multiple stab wounds. Zavala was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he underwent surgery, but is expected to survive. During the investigation, it was learned that the two suspects and the victims confronted each other and a fight ensued. During the confrontation, Zavala was stabbed.

DETAILS:

On 04-02-11 at approximately 1800 hours, a burglar entered an unoccupied residence in the 2600 block of Kentia Street. The suspect possibly entered the residence through an unlocked door, for the purposes of committing a burglary. The suspect removed several valuable items which included jewelry and electronics.

A day after the burglary occurred, Oxnard patrol officers developed information that lead them to a possible suspect residence located on the 2400 block of Hillrose Place.

On 04-04-11, Oxnard Police detectives with the assistance of patrol officers conducted a search of the residence located on Hillrose Place and located the stolen property. A 17 year old male, was arrested for committing the burglary along with possession of stolen property and for illegally possessing shotgun. The victims were instrumental in the recovery of the property having provided serial numbers for the stolen electronics.

The suspect was booked into juvenile hall. The suspect was not known to the victims.

(Original text of first news release) At about 8 p.m. on October 24, 2011 Oxnard PD received a call regarding a domestic violence incident taking place in the 200 block of Roderick Avenue. Oxnard officers arrived on scene, but the suspect fled prior to their arrival. A firearm had been mentioned, and officers believed the suspect was armed. Officers were able to determine that a crime had occurred.

At about 9 p.m., Ventura County Sheriff’s (VCSO) deputies were involved in a pursuit with the suspect in his vehicle on Highway 33. It was reported that the suspect had fired at the deputies as he drove. The suspect then traveled onto Highway 101 and headed south. When he reached Seaward and Highway 101, the suspect fired at the deputies, who returned fire. The suspect got back onto Highway 101 and exited in Oxnard at Vineyard Avenue. He returned to the Roderick Avenue residence and fired shots at that location. No one was injured from this action.

The suspect eventually made his way (with Oxnard PD and VCSO deputies in pursuit) to the Marina Village area in Port Hueneme. The suspect continued north on Victoria Avenue where he again exchanged gunfire; this time with VCSO deputies and Oxnard PD officers. The suspect was struck by gunfire, and was transported to a local hospital.

The name of the suspect and his condition is not being released at this time. The name of the victim will not be released as she is a domestic violence victim and her identity is protected by law.

Neither Oxnard officers nor VCSO deputies sustained injuries. Two people who were not involved in the incident received minor injuries from flying glass. One of those individuals was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Oxnard PD is the lead agency on this incident. VCSO deputies, detectives and officers from Port Hueneme Police are assisting.

UPDATE: The name of the suspect in this case is Jose Luis Ramirez 1/6/1993. He is a resident of Oxnard and is being treated at Ventura County Medical Center. Ramirez is a documented gang member. The vehicle in this case is a reported stolen vehicle.

At nearly 10 p.m. on November 19, 2011, a Port Hueneme Police Officer attempted to make a traffic stop of a possible stolen vehicle in southern Oxnard. The vehicle was occupied by a lone male occupant. The suspect stopped the vehicle in the 900 block of Redwood Street in Oxnard. The suspect rapidly accelerated his vehicle in the officer’s direction and an officer-involved shooting took place. The suspect was struck by police gunfire and transported to the hospital for medical care. No officers were injured during the confrontation.

Oxnard police officers did not fire at the suspect Oxnard PD is handling the shooting investigation because it took place in our jurisdiction.

At the time of this press release the suspect was in critical condition at Ventura County Medical Center. The suspect’s name is not being released pending the notification of family members.

(Oxnard, CA) The Oxnard Police Department has seen three cases of auto theft in which the driver leaves the keys in their car while the car is running and leaves the vehicle unsupervised. These cases occurred between January and February 2012 in the Rose Park neighborhood. These incidents of auto theft are 100 percent preventable. We strongly encourage members of the public never to leave their keys in the car whether the car is running or not. Additionally, Oxnard municipal code section 8-45(A) indicates that you can be cited if an officer encounters your vehicle running, unattended. Aside from being a target of theft, it is not safe to leave a running car unattended. At this point, investigators do not have any suspect information in these cases.

There are steps you can take to help prevent your car from being stolen or broken into. Lock your car and do not leave personal items of value visible. Often thieves walk through parking lots or neighborhoods and choose the cars to break into based upon items that are visible. If you must leave valuable items in your car, lock them in the trunk. In addition, please report any suspicious activity to the Oxnard PD. If you see a person who is not familiar to you walking or driving around your neighborhood, get a good physical description of the person and vehicle and call (805) 385-7740.
