DETAILS:

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Division conducted two Sobriety and Drivers License checkpoints on March 20th, 2010, from 8:00 P.M. to 2:00 A.M.

The first checkpoint was conducted in the southbound lanes of Rose Avenue @ First Street.

The second checkpoint was conducted in the northbound lanes of Oxnard Boulevard @ Second Street.

Officers screened 705 motorists who passed through the checkpoints. Officers conducted seven DUI investigations that lead to the arrest of six drivers for DUI. One of these drivers was under the age of 21.

26 drivers were issued citations for various drivers license violations. 27 vehicles were towed and the owners of those vehicles will face a minimum tow fee of $494.00. 25 drivers were issued citations for driving without a valid drivers license and one driver was cited for driving with a suspended or revoked drivers license.

The Oxnard Police Department will conduct several additional DUI checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols this year. These DUI operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer. We also remind people that if they see an impaired driver to dial 911. The checkpoints are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Administration.

INCIDENT:	Murder Suspects Arrested

DETAILS:

On December 1st 2008 at approximately 2040 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a shooting victim in the 800 block of S. Oxnard Blvd. Upon their arrival, they found a victim who had been shot. Uriel Loya Bucio died as a result of the shooting.

Detectives learned that Mr. Bucio worked at a car dealership in the 800 block of S. Oxnard Blvd. Mr. Bucio was leaving the business with his young son when they were confronted by the suspect Miguel Pena. Pena ordered Mr. Bucio and his son to the ground at gunpoint. The suspect demanded personal property from the victim and the victim complied with the suspect’s demands. The suspect subsequently shot the victim and ran from the area. Mr. Bucio’s son was not harmed.

The investigation has progressed to the point that two suspects have been identified as being responsible for the robbery and murder of Uriel Bucio. These two suspects were currently in-custody on an unrelated robbery charge at the Ventura County Main Jail. On December 21st 2010, Miguel Pena of Oxnard and Gerardo Mariscal of Oxnard were arrested for the special circumstance robbery and murder of Uriel Bucio. Miguel Pena shot Mr. Bucio during the robbery while Gerardo Mariscal assisted in the planning of the robbery. Both suspects are being held without bail at the Ventura County Main Jail.

On February 13, 2011, at approximately 1547 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the intersection of Saviers Road and Wolff Street after receiving a call of an injury traffic collision involving an SUV and a motorcycle. Once on scene, officers found that a motorcycle, ridden by a male driver, 20 years old of Oxnard, had collided with a Chevy, Tahoe, driven by Maria Bernardino, 43 years old of Oxnard.

Based on a preliminary investigation, the SUV made a left turn from northbound Saviers Road to westbound Wolff Street in front of the motorcycle which was traveling southbound on Saviers Road. The motorcyclist was unable to stop in time and broadsided the SUV.

The motorcyclist sustained serious head injuries along with several broken bones and a partially severed leg. He was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center where he was immediately rushed to surgery and is listed in critical condition. The driver of the SUV and her passenger were transported to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

It has not been determined whether or not alcohol or speed was a factor in this collision. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

On 4/30/11 at about 8:45 P.M., Oxnard police and emergency medical personnel responded to a call of an injured subject in the 300 block of East Fir Street. The injured party was assaulted by a suspect known to him who was armed with a bat or similar weapon. The suspect was identified and contacted at his residence. The suspect was arrested without incident. The victim was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries. The suspect was booked into the Ventura County Jail on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. An investigation is continuing.

On February 3, 2012, at about 8:00 a.m., investigators from the Oxnard Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit identified the suspect responsible for stabbing a 17-year-old male on January 25, 2012. Investigators contacted the suspect, whose name isn’t being released because of his age, in the 500 block of Airport Way in Camarillo. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into Juvenile Hall for assault with a deadly weapon.

A search warrant was served at the suspect’s residence and several items of evidentiary value were seized. Investigators believe the motive for the stabbing was over a personal issue and it doesn’t appear to be gang related.

At about 2:41 p.m., officers received a call of a possible stabbing in the area of San Juan and Bard Road. When officers arrived they contacted a 17-year-old victim who had sustained a single stab wound to the chest. Witnesses in the area advised that the victim was involved in a fight with another person when he was stabbed. The suspect was accompanied by two to three other young men who were not involved in the fight. The motive for the fight and stabbing are unknown. We are unsure if the incident is gang related. The victim was transported to a local hospital and listed in critical but stable condition.

The suspect is still outstanding and we are looking to contact the other young men who were with the suspect during the incident.

On Saturday, February 4, 2012 at about 1 p.m., the Oxnard Police Department received information from a concerned citizen that three suspicious subjects were attempting to sell possible stolen merchandise in the area of A Street and Palm Drive in Oxnard.

Oxnard police officers responded and saw a vehicle fitting the description fleeing the area. The car was occupied by three men. After an investigation, it was confirmed that all three men were trying to sell stolen property which belonged to California State University, Channel Islands.

During a lengthy investigation, more than $10,000 of stolen merchandise was recovered. Items include four computers, power tools, various commercial landscaping implements, and miscellaneous items taken over the last four years.

The specific details provided by the caller assisted police in making this arrest. This is a good reminder for any concerned citizen to call the police to report any suspicious activity.

All three suspects were charged with possession of stolen property and conspiracy. Carmona also faces charges of grand theft and burglary. Bail for Rosendo was set at $20,000; Carmona and Meza’s bail was set at $30,000 each. The investigation is continuing.

On February 23, 2012 at about 8 p.m. a male suspect tried to rob two men at gunpoint. The victims were in the IHOP parking lot on North Oxnard Boulevard. The victims did not cooperate with the suspect so he fled on foot toward Lowe’s on Gonzales Road.
The suspect then approached a man driving through the lot and threatened this victim with a gun and demanded the victim’s property. The victim gave the suspect cash and the suspect left through the parking lot going north.
The suspect was described as a 20-year-old Hispanic male. Attached you will find a composite sketch of the suspect.

(Oxnard, CA) On June 24, 2012 at about 10:15 p.m., Oxnard PD officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Devonshire regarding a stabbing. When officers arrived they contacted a victim who had sustained stab wounds to his chest. The victim was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

Officers were able to locate the suspect, 27-year-old Jesus Morones (10/13/84) walking in the immediate area. Morones had sustained an injury to his head and was also transported to Ventura County Medical Center for his injuries.

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that both Morones and the victim knew each other and had a dispute over a woman. During the dispute Morones stabbed the victim. The victim armed himself with a metal object and hit Morones in head. After Morones was medically cleared, he was transported to Ventura County jail and charged with attempted murder.

On 8/25/12, at about 0251 hours, Officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to the 1300 block of Fremont Way reference suspicious subjects possible involved in auto burglaries in the area. Officers arrived and contacted three subjects who were in a parked vehicle in the alley. One of the subjects, Arturo Fuentes, was found to be in possession of property that was taken in an earlier auto burglary in the same area. Fuentes was arrested for auto burglary and under the influence of a controlled substance. A second subject from the vehicle was also arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
