(OXNARD, Calif) – Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit have arrested a second suspect in connection with the murder of Joshua Van.
On August 4, 2016 at approximately 6:00 P.M., Jesus Samuel Duarte, a 36 year old Oxnard resident, was arrested by members of the Oxnard Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit (SEU). The arrest occurred after Major Crimes Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Duarte. Duarte is the second suspect to be arrested in the murder of Joshua Van. On August 21, 2015, Major Crimes Investigators arrested Alejandro Morales in connection with Van’s murder.
The murder occurred on February 17, 2014 at approximately 6:30 P.M.. Oxnard police officers were dispatched to a call of “shots fired” in the 2000 block of Mariposa Street. When officers arrived, they located two male shooting victims. One victim, an 18 year old male, was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center. This victim underwent emergency surgery and survived his wounds. The second victim, 24 year old Joshua Van, died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts by emergency medical personnel.
The arrest of Duarte and Morales is a result of the relentless and tireless effort by Major Crimes Investigators, and in direct partnership with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation into Joshua Van’s murder will continue. The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect(s) in homicide cases.
