DETAILS: On April 3, 2016 at approximately 2045 hours Officers from the Special Enforcement Unit were working directed gang enforcement in the Lemonwood/Diamond Bar area of the city. This is the same area where a gang member shot at an Oxnard Police Officer last week.
While patrolling the area SEU officers contacted Juan Alvarez, Ray Fernandez and a third male subject in a parked vehicle in the 3200 block of Merced. Ray Fernandez is on probation with search terms. Fernandez was searched during which narcotics paraphernalia was located. During the search of the vehicle a loaded handgun was also located.
Juan Alvarez was arrested for several weapon violations and Ray Fernandez was arrested for narcotics violations. The third subject was released at the scene.
Alvarez and Fernandez are both associated with a criminal street gang.
The Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit is committed to reducing gang crimes and violence in the City of Oxnard through the strict enforcement of laws specifically targeting known, active gang members in the city. Citizens are reminded to contact the Police Department when they observe suspicious activity or are witnesses to a crime.
