On June 28, 2016, at about 12:40 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) were conducting uniform gang enforcement in 1300 block of Azalea St. where the recent homicide occurred. Officers noticed a large group of subjects at a vehicle which was in the middle of the street blocking both lanes near Azalea St at Lantana St.
When officers approached the subjects the car quickly sped away from them attempting to avoid contact with the officers. A short pursuit ensued in the neighborhood and during the pursuit a loaded firearm was discarded from the vehicle. The vehicle collided with a parked car in the neighborhood and both occupants fled on foot from the vehicle. After a brief foot pursuit both suspects were apprehended.
Sattiewhite was arrested for possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, and narcotics. Washington was arrested for vehicle pursuit and resisting arrest.
