DETAILS:

On January 23, 2017, at approximately 6:20 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a collision in the area of Edison Drive and McWane Blvd. When officers and EMS personnel arrived, they discovered a single vehicle collided into a parked semi-truck trailer. Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver of the Nissan swerved to the right side of the road while traveling northbound on Edison Road and collided into the rear of the semi-truck trailer.

The collision caused the driver, a 17-year-old male of Oxnard, to be partially ejected from the vehicle. EMS personnel attempted to render aid to the driver, however; he succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision.

It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are involved but speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision. The collision is still under investigation.

(OXNARD, Calif) – Investigators with the Oxnard Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit have made an arrest in the 2012 murder of Jose Gonzalez. Gonzalez was shot and killed in the 2500 block of Greenbrook Drive.

On January 23, 2017 at approximately 1:30 P.M., police officers assigned to the Oxnard Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) arrested 25 year old Hugo Sanchez, an Oxnard resident. Sanchez was arrested after Major Crimes Investigators obtained an arrest warrant related to the murder of Jose Gonzalez.

On July 9, 2012, at approximately 8:52 P.M., Oxnard police officers responded to several 911 calls of shots fired in the 2500 block of Greenbrook Drive. Officers arrived and located 19 year old Jose Gonzalez suffering from a gunshot wound. Gonzalez was declared deceased at the scene. Police officers located a second shooting victim nearby. The second shooting victim, a 22 year old Hispanic male Oxnard resident, was transported to the hospital and survived his injury. Investigators from the Major Crimes and Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene to take over the investigation.

Investigators learned the victims were walking together in the 2500 block of Greenbrook Drive. Several subjects approached the victims and a confrontation occurred. During the confrontation, the victims were shot and the suspects fled the scene. Investigators believe the confrontation and murder of Jose Gonzalez was gang motivated.

Since the first day of the investigation, Major Crimes Investigators have followed up on leads, tips, and interviewed persons of interest in this case. Investigators also worked closely with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. Based on all the information gathered during the course of the investigation, Major Crimes Investigators were able to gather enough probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Sanchez.

Sanchez was arrested for 1^st degree murder and will be transported to Ventura County Main Jail. His bail is set at $1,000,000.00.

The arrest of Hugo Sanchez was a result of the unwavering and dedicated effort by Major Crimes Investigators, and in direct partnership with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. Major Crimes Investigators will continue to investigate the murder of Jose Gonzalez. Investigators believe additional arrests will be made in this case.

The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect(s) in homicide cases. On the above date and time, Officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the area of Channel Islands Boulevard and El Dorado reference a shooting victim. On arrival officers contacted a victim of a shooting, an adult male, who suffered a non-life threatening injury from a gunshot. Officers learned of a second shooting victim in the 2000 Block of Sierra Way, who also suffered a non-life threatening injury.

Officers learned that the shooting may have occurred in the 3000 Block of Nevada, but were unable to locate a crime scene. In addition, both the victims and witnesses were unable to provide officers with a description of the suspect or suspects.

Oxnard, California – It has come to the attention of your Oxnard Police Department that a potentially troubling scam is targeting families with school-age children. This Door-to-Door Scam has resulted in at least three confirmed cases in Oxnard and potentially others in Cerritos.

In two instances, a male subject advertised door-to-door as an in-home tutor. He presented parents with a card from a legitimate tutoring company saying it was a government assistance program and even provided forms to “start the registration process.” The suspect was invited into the home in both cases and during the visit he was able to obtain tax returns and the social security numbers of everyone in the residence. A subscription fee is asked for prior to the suspect leaving and an appointment is set for the tutoring to begin. In both cases, the tutoring date arrived and the suspect never returned.

Although not all persons soliciting door-to-door are attempting to commit a crime, your Oxnard Police Department recommends community members be wary of anyone soliciting services to them at their home. This can be a method in which the suspect is “casing” for a later burglary. As in the above case, the suspect can use the information obtained for identity theft purposes and file false tax returns.

Here are some tips to help prevent your becoming a victim:

No government agency will solicit door to door.
Do not give your personal identifying information to anyone that you do not know or did not solicit their services.
Ask for photo identification. If you are suspicious, call to verify employment.
Don’t be pressured into signing any agreements or contracts.

Oxnard, California – Ha llegado a la atención de su Departamento de Policía de Oxnard que una estafa potencialmente preocupante está dirigida a familias con niños de edad escolar. Esta estafa puerta a puerta ha resultado en al menos tres casos confirmados en Oxnard y potencialmente otros en Cerritos.

En dos casos, un sujeto masculino se presentó puerta a puerta como un tutor del hogar. On January 13, 2017, the Oxnard Police Department Explorer Post 9286 set out to compete in the 19^th Annual Chandler Police Explorer Tactical Competition, hosted in Chandler, Arizona. The three day competition was attended by over 50 Explorer Posts from across the nation. These dedicated Police Explorers prepared for months to compete in scenarios, such as hostage rescue, crisis negotiation, vehicle assault, robot operations, pistol shoot and active shooter incidents.

The Oxnard Police Department was represented by 24 Explorers who competed in several team and individual tactical events, earning trophies in five of them. The team earned second place trophies in Rapid Response (Active Shooter) and Door Breaching; third place in Vehicle Assault and Crisis Negotiation; and Police Explorer Sergeant Shayla Fuentes earned a fourth place trophy for her impressive performance in the Individual Pistol Shoot. The Oxnard Police Explorers exemplified dedication, team work and professionalism throughout the competition and their hard work surely paid off.

The Oxnard Police Department Explorers are a non-profit organization that provides young adults between the ages of 14 and 21 the opportunity to learn about the law enforcement profession and gives police officers the opportunity to build constructive relationships with young members of the community. Police Explorers selflessly serve the community in a variety of ways. The program is supported by the Oxnard Police Department and funded through generous donations and money earned by the police explorers who volunteer to work various community service details. DETAILS: On January 13, 2017, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Oxnard Police Department SWAT team, K-9 unit, and Violent Crimes Unit, served a search warrant in the 1500 block of Crawford Street. This location was the residence of 41 year old Daniel Miramontes. The search warrant was in response to several arrests involving Miramontes being in possession of multiple firearms spanning from July 2016 through December 2016. During each of his subsequent arrests, Miramontes has been able to post bail allowing him to remain in Oxnard and continue his criminal activity.

During today’s search warrant, two rifles, a stolen shotgun, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a high power magazine, and a military tactical vest were seized. This brings the total number of guns seized from Miramontes to seven.

Taken into account his immediate past history and his propensity to continue to reoffend, his actions have clearly shown a threat to the citizens of Oxnard. Following today’s arrest, Oxnard Police Investigators petitioned the court to increase his bail from $100,000 to $1,000,000. Miramontes was booked and charged with multiple weapons charges.

On January 3, 2017, at 12:02 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a collision in the area of Rose Avenue and Cesar Chavez Drive. When officers and EMS personnel arrived, they discovered three vehicles were involved in the collision and multiple subjects had been injured. Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver of the Nissan was traveling northbound on Rose Avenue and crossed over the center divider colliding into a Chevy Pickup which was traveling southbound in the number one lane of Rose Avenue. The collision caused the Chevy Pickup to collide into a Honda Civic which was southbound in the number two lane of Rose Avenue.

The driver of the Chevy Pickup truck, Reynaldo Lugo a 45-year-old Oxnard resident, and the driver of the Honda Civic, Andre Gutierrez a 21-year-old Oxnard resident, were transported to local hospitals due to moderate injuries and are listed in stable condition. EMS personnel attempted to render aid to the driver of the Nissan; however, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision.

It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are factors involved in the collision. The collision is still under investigation.

The Oxnard Police Department received a 911 call at 4:44 a.m. from a female stating that her 29-year-old daughter had just been forced out of the residence in the 200 block of Riverpark Boulevard by her boyfriend, Jamell Taylor. Taylor had broken into residence through a window and used a screw driver as a weapon to take the victim. Officers responded to the area and continued their search until approximately 2 hours later when they located the victim near Ventura Road and Forest Park Blvd. The victim had a minor injury caused by Taylor; she was treated and released at the scene by medical personnel.

Shortly afterwards Taylor was possibly sited in the area of the 500 block of Danvers River Street. Officers set up a perimeter and searched for Taylor with the assistance of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department air and K9 units. Officers were not able to locate Taylor and the contained area search was called off at 8:19 a.m.

The Oxnard Police Department is still looking for Taylor in relation to the above incident as well as his active warrant for a parole violation. Taylor is a black male, 31 years old, 5’3, 200, and was last seen wearing a long sleeve gray shirt and black sweat pants.
