DETAILS:

On March 29, 2018, at approximately 8:21 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to an injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian at Cooper Road and Grant Avenue. It was determined a 1993 gold Chevy 1500 pickup truck, driven by a 53-year-old male, Oxnard resident was traveling westbound on Cooper Road when it collided with a 41-year-old male pedestrian who was crossing Cooper Road at Grant Avenue. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and was immediately transported to the Ventura County Medical Center. The pedestrian is currently listed in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were involved. The collision is still under investigation.

DETAILS: On March 27th, 2018, at 7:54 p.m., Oxnard Police officers and EMS personnel responded to a call of a shooting victim in the courtyard of 2710 El Dorado Ave. Upon arrival, officers located a 24-year-old victim who sustained a single gunshot wound to his chest. While on-scene, officers were notified of a second shooting victim; a 16-year-old male juvenile who sustained a single gunshot wound to his foot. The adult victim was transported to Ventura County Medical Center and is listed in stable condition. The juvenile victim was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center and is listed in stable condition. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene and are actively investigating the incident. At this point in the investigation, detectives do not know a motive for the shooting.

DETAILS: On March 25, 2018 at 4:45 am, Oxnard police officers responded to an assault with a firearm at 730 W. Roderick Ave, Oxnard. It was determined that the suspect told the victim that he was going to shoot the victim during a verbal argument. The suspect retrieved a rifle and struck the victim on the head with the barrel of the firearm causing a minor laceration. Detectives from the Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit responded and authored a search warrant for the residence. Several firearms were located and seized pursuant to the search warrant.

Whitacre was arrested for the felony charges of an assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats.

DETAILS:

On 3/23/18 at 7:43 pm officers with the Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit conducted directed enforcement in the area of 1300 Azalea Street and contacted a 16-year-old male subject. During the contact, officers determined that the subject was in possession of concealed handgun. The subject was arrested and booked into Ventura County Juvenile Hall.

The victim of a shooting, that occurred on March 19, 2018, has died. The victim, 44-year old Juan Oscar Gutierrez, succumbed to his injury and died at the Ventura County Medical Center on March 20, 2018, shortly before 3 p.m. (Notification to the media was delayed in order to allow the victim’s family time to notify other family members and friends, and time to mourn their loss.)

The shooting occurred in the north alley of the 1000 block of West Gonzales Road. Oxnard police officers and EMS personnel were dispatched to that location reference a person wounded in the alley. EMS arrived on scene and found Gutierrez laying in the alley. EMS transported Gutierrez to the Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition. Oxnard police officers arrived on scene and located evidence of a shooting. Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit and Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene to handle the investigation. The incident is now being investigated as a homicide and the Major Crimes Unit will be leading the investigation. The motive for the shooting is unknown.

The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000.00 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of suspect(s) in homicide cases. Investigators are encouraging anyone with information about this incident to contact Detective Steven Ramirez II at (805) 385-7760.

On March 22, 2018, at about 12:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to a missing juvenile in the 700 block of Douglas Avenue. The parents became concerned when they did not find him at the residence.

The missing juvenile is Christopher Alan Losoya, 10-year-old, Hispanic male, 4’8”, 75 lbs., brown hair, brown eyes, last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with black stripe, blue pants, and red shoes (see attached photo).

The Oxnard Police Department does not suspect any foul play. We are urging the public to immediately contact the Oxnard Police Department if they see him or have any information as to his whereabouts.

On March 21, 2018, Officers and Investigators from the Oxnard Police Departments Special Enforcement Unit (SEU), Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) and K-9 Unit served a search warrant in the 200 block of E. Sixth Street, Oxnard. The warrant was in response to recent violent robberies where a gun was used or brandished during the commission of a robbery. During the search of the residence officers found 3 handguns. One of the handguns was found in a child’s toy chest. The investigation is ongoing.

EMS arrived on scene and located the wounded person laying in the alley. The victim, a 44-year old Hispanic male and Oxnard resident, had been shot. The victim was placed in an ambulance and transported to the Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition.

DETAILS:

On Monday, March 19, 2018, at approximately 11:35 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and emergency medical personnel responded to a traffic collision at the Oxnard Costco, located at 2001 Ventura Blvd.

When officers arrived they discovered that a white 1989 Buick Regal, driven by an 86 year-old Oxnard resident, drove through the entrance to the business and collided with six pedestrians. The vehicle came to rest inside of the business after striking a large merchandise display rack.

The injuries to the pedestrians ranged from minor to moderate. Two of the injured parties were transported to local hospitals by ambulance and treated for their injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and indicated to officers that he inadvertently placed his car into reverse and accelerated while attempting to park his vehicle in the store’s parking lot. Drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to have been involved. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured. The collision is still under investigation.
