On February 5, at approximately 9:25 p.m., officers from the Special Enforcement Unit conducted a traffic stop in the Colonia neighborhood in the 1700 block of Crawford St. The officers immediately recognized the driver as 36-year-old Sergio Contreras, a documented criminal street gang member on supervised release (Post Release Offender). Officers exercised Contreras’ court ordered search terms and located a semiautomatic handgun concealed in the vehicle. Contreras was arrested for numerous firearms related charges.
