DETAILS:
On August 7, 2018, at 2:00 PM Oxnard Police Department officers conducted probation searches on Post Release Offenders to confirm their compliance with their probation terms. When officers attempted to search the residence of Federico Zapien, he refused to comply with officers. As a result, a struggle ensued. Zapien was ultimately taken into custody with minor injuries to himself and one officer.
After taking Zapien into custody, officers searched his room and located a loaded .380 semi-automatic handgun as well as methamphetamine. Zapien is prohibited by law to possess a firearm and ammunition. Therefore, he was booked for possession of the firearm and ammunition, possession of methamphetamine, delaying/resisting a peace officer, and violation of his probation.
