DETAILS: On December 29, 2018 at approximately 7:30 P.M., Officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a serious assault with a firearm in the 300 Block of Campbell Way. The victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for a single gunshot wound to the chest. The victim is currently listed in stable condition. The Departments Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) responded to further investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault. The investigation is ongoing.

DETAILS:

The 88-year-old Homer Valle died Saturday, December 29, from his injuries. Valle was walking across H Street at Janetwood Drive on Wednesday, December 26, at about 5:45 p.m., when he was hit by a 2006 Hummer H2 driven by 20-year-old Hannah Cooper from Thousand Oaks.

The Hummer H2 was travelling westbound on Janetwood Drive when it hit Valle who was taken to St. John’s Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The car stayed at the scene and driver cooperated with the investigation.

DETAILS:

On December 28, 2018 at 7:00 A. M. Officers from the Oxnard Police Department’s SWAT Team and Violent Crimes Unit served a search warrant in the 2600 block of Lilac Walk. The occupants were initially reluctant to surrender to officers, but eventually complied and came out of the residence and were detained. During a search of the residence, a firearm was recovered and later found to be stolen. Albert Rojas, a convicted felon, and prohibited from possessing a firearm was arrested. Rojas was charged with 1 felony count of possessing a firearm, and 1 felony count of possessing a firearm by an addict or felon. He was later booked into the Ventura County Jail.

On December 27, at approximately 7:40 p.m., officers from the Special Enforcement Unit (gang unit) conducted a traffic stop on a bicyclist on Geronimo Drive and Napoleon Avenue reference a vehicle code infraction. Upon making contact with the subject, officers found the subject to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The suspect, Oscar Vaca is on probation with searchable terms and is prohibited from possessing firearms. Vaca was found to be in possession of an unregistered handgun. Vaca is a documented criminal street gang member and one of his probation terms specifically states he is not allowed to possess firearms or ammunition, making this arrest a felony.

Vaca was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm (a felony), possessing a firearm without a serial number (a felony), and possessing a firearm in violation of probation, also a felony.

On 12/26/18, at around 10:23 p.m., a caller reported two suspicious males who attempted to burglarize a vehicle in the carports of 201 W. Vineyard Ave. The responding officers contacted three male subjects in the carport, including two juveniles (ages 16 and 17), and a 21-year-old. During a pat-down search for weapons, officers located a loaded .25 caliber handgun in the front pocket of the 17-year-old male. The minor was arrested for possession of a loaded concealed firearm. He was transported to the Oxnard Police Department for booking and later lodged in Juvenile Hall. The two other subjects were released without charge after a field interview.

On 12/26/18, at about 4:09 p.m., officers were dispatched to a stabbing victim in the 100 block of South Grant Avenue. Upon arrival, they obtained a description of the suspect, who fled the scene on a bicycle. One of the Officers on-scene, recalled seeing an individual matching the suspect description in the area of the 100 block of South Garfield Avenue, as he was responding to the call. Officers responded to that location and detained suspect Alberto Perez, age 43. An infield line-up was conducted and Perez was positively identified as being responsible for the stabbing. The victim suffered non-life-threatening wounds to his shoulder and ear. The preliminary investigation indicates the victim and suspect were involved in an altercation prior to the stabbing occurring.

UPDATE:

A man’s van that was stolen three days ago from St. John’s Hospital in Oxnard where his wife was being treated, was recovered and returned to the couple with their beloved puppy Scrappy inside.

On Wednesday, 12/26/18, at about noon, a resident reported the abandoned Odyssey van in the 2500 block of Ukiah Street in the City of Port Hueneme. Inside the van, Scrappy was found alive, although weak and dehydrated having spent what was assumed to be three days and nights inside the vehicle.

On December 25, 2018, at about 8:29 AM, an Oxnard Police Officer located an occupied stolen vehicle in the 900 block of S. C Street. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver yielded. The driver was identified as Julio Cesar Lara a 55-year-old Oxnard resident. He was arrested for the unlawful taking/driving of a motor vehicle (California Vehicle Code 10851), possession of stolen property (California Penal Code 496d (a)), possession of a methamphetamine pipe (California Health and Safety Code 11364), and possession of a stolen vehicle with prior stolen vehicle convictions (California Penal Code 666.5(a)).

The passenger, Rosalinda Pizano a 53-year-old Oxnard resident, was arrested for possession of stolen property (California Penal Code 496d(a)) and possession of an illegal medical prescription (California Business and Professions 4060).

Our city is currently experiencing a significant increase in stolen vehicles. To combat the problem, the Police Department is prioritizing taking a proactive comprehensive approach in the prevention, enforcement, and investigation of stolen vehicles.

A significant percentage of the stolen vehicles are preventable. The Oxnard Police Department would like to remind residents of the following tips to prevent a vehicle from being stolen:

•       Never leave your car unlocked, not even for a minute.
•       Never leave your keys in the car, even if you think they are really “hidden.”
•       Don’t leave your car idling and unattended because it is unnecessary (it doesn’t get cold enough here), it is unsafe, illegal, and someone can steal your car.
•       Wheel locks, brake pedal locks, and steering wheel locks are also effective.

On December 23, 2108, officers were dispatched to 241 Chester Way regarding a stabbing victim in the middle of the roadway. Officers located the victim who was immediately taken to a local hospital and rushed into emergency surgery. The victim suffered from a stab wound to the neck and is currently listed in critical/unstable condition. Officers learned of a second robbery victim (Not Injured) who may have been robbed by the same three (3) subjects. Diaz is a documented criminal street gang member and one of his probation terms specifically states he is not allowed to possess firearms or ammunition, making this arrest a felony.
