On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at about 4:30 p.m. an officer saw a man fighting with another man in the parking lot of Walmart located at 2701 Saviers Road. The man jumped into his car and fled when he saw the officer approach.

Victor Aguiar, 25, of Oxnard was pulled over and a passenger ran from the car.

The officer noticed that Aguiar was driving under the influence of alcohol and noticed a gun on the floor of the driver’s seat. Aguiar was asked to step out of the car.

The officer seized a Glock semi-automatic firearm and arrested Aguiar.

Aguiar was charged with drunk driving, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of methamphetamine.

The shooting occurred on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at 6:17 p.m. in the 4400 block of south C Street when the suspect approached the car on foot and opened fire on the victim.

The victim, in his 20s, was taken by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center. His injuries were serious but not life threatening.

There was no immediate motive or suspect information.

On May 23, 2019, at about 10:55 P.M., officers responded to a collision scene west alley of the 2000 block of Mariposa Street. The Oxnard Police Department Major Crimes Unit responded to complete the investigation due to the suspicious nature of the collision.

Detectives believe that the vehicle being driven by an unknown subject intentionally hit and killed 31-year-old Michael Holley then fled the scene. Oxnard Police Department Major Crimes detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating any witnesses who witness this horrible crime. This is considered Oxnard’s sixth homicide in 2019.

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance to locate a light colored, late model pick-up, similar to a Dodge. If anyone has witnessed this incident, please contact Detective Jose Velazquez (805) 385-7760.

On Monday, May 27, 2019, at around 8 p.m. officers received a call about a man holding a gun in front of an apartment complex in the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar Drive in the Southwinds neighborhood of Oxnard.

When officers arrived on-scene, they spoke with witnesses who said they saw the man, Jonathan Morgutia, 20, with the gun.

Officers spotted Morgutia. He was wearing a hooded jacket with the hoodie over his head and the jacket covered his waistline. Morgutia was under the influence of alcohol and a loaded handgun was found concealed inside his waistband.

Morgutia was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed loaded firearm.

On May 27, 2019, at about 5:26 p.m., patrol officers from the Oxnard Police Department along with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the intersection of Hueneme Road and Saviers Road, in the City of Oxnard, regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. EMS personnel arrived and transported a 42-year-old Hispanic male to Ventura County Medical Center.

Based upon preliminary investigation, the male was walking in a crosswalk across Saviers Road at the intersection with Hueneme Road. A gray Ford Taurus was westbound on Hueneme Road. Witnesses state that a white pickup truck that was eastbound on Hueneme Road had turned left into the path of the gray Ford. Both vehicles swerved to avoid a collision and the gray Ford struck the pedestrian. The white pickup truck left the scene north on Saviers Road. The driver of the Ford remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators.

On May 26, 2019, at about 1:38 A.M., patrol officers from the Oxnard Police Department along with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the 100 block of West Seventh Street for a reported shooting victim. When officers arrived, they located a 22-year old Hispanic male lying in the alley. EMS transported him by ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center. He was immediately taken into surgery where he succumbed to his injuries.

On May 24^th2019 at approximately 4:15 P.M., Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit, with the assistance of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) and the K-9 Unit, served a search warrant in the 1000 block of Kamala Street. The search warrant was related to a felony vandalism investigation involving members of an Oxnard based criminal street gang.

Just prior to the service of the search warrant, Robert Gonzales, a 20 year old Oxnard resident, and a 13 year old Oxnard resident were contacted during a traffic stop and taken into custody for vandalism and Street Terrorism. Investigators and members of the SWAT Team and K-9 Unit then responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Kamala Street to serve the search warrant. During the service of the search warrant, officers made contact with Joshua Torres, a 20 year old Oxnard resident, and took him into custody for possession of narcotics paraphernalia. Two additional males in the residence refused to come out.

After approximately 45 minutes, David Gonzales, a 31 year old Oxnard resident, exited the residence and was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant for his arrest as well as resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer. Approximately 40 minutes after that, the second subject, Jose Torres, a 23 year old Oxnard resident, also exited the residence and was taken into custody for resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer.

During the subsequent investigation, investigators recognized Jose Torres as the suspect involved in an armed robbery that occurred today at approximately 3:40 A.M. In that incident, the suspect entered Oxnard Donuts, located at 2510 Saviers Road, brandished a knife, and stole property from two victims. He was later booked into the Ventura County Jail for armed robbery. The investigation is ongoing.

On May 23, 2019, at about 10:55 P.M., patrol officers from the Oxnard Police Department along with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the west alley of the 2000 block of Mariposa Street regarding a hit and run collision with a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they located a 31-year old Hispanic male lying in the alley. EMS transported him by ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Initially, the Oxnard Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to investigate the collision. Based on the physical evidence at the scene and witness interviews, Traffic Unit investigators determined this death was suspicious. The Major Crimes Unit was contacted and responded to assume the lead role in the investigation.

On May 23, at 11:21 p.m., officers from the Special Enforcement Unit (gang unit) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic infraction. Officers contacted the driver of the vehicle, Jose Dimas. Dimas could not provide evidence of identification and was subsequently removed from the vehicle. Officers discovered a loaded handgun concealed in the vehicle. Dimas was arrested for several charges related to firearms possession.

On May 20, at 5:00 p.m., officers from the Special Enforcement Unit (gang unit) conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of W. Channel Islands Blvd for a vehicle code violation. The driver was identified as Anthony Garcia, and the right front passenger was identified as Jesus Villafana. Villafana is a documented criminal street gang member, on probation and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

During a search of the vehicle, a loaded 9 millimeter semi-auto handgun, 9 millimeter ammunition and a large quantity of generic Xanax were located. Garcia was charged with several firearms related violations. Villafana was charged with controlled substance and firearms related violations.
